  1. I would have to pick: 1. 27th Lancers 2. Bridgemen 3. Star of Indiana 4. Guardsmen 5. Sky Ryders
  2. If I could name an individual that should be in the DCI Hall of Fame and isn't, it would be former percussion arranger/instructor for Phantom Regiment and Belleville Black Knights, Marty Hurley. It is well over due for Marty to be in the Hall of Fame. He did so much for both of the mentioned corps, plus for marching percussion. I hope next year will be his year.
  3. After hearing from some people about actually happened last night, I have actually admit that George was not at fault. In fact, he actually handled the whole situation very well. I don't know if George reads this, but you did what was in the best interest of your members. Kudos to you!
  4. Looks to me like it could be a long time before DCI returns to California. Lots of problems here and other shows.
  5. According to the judges, you are incorrect. Cavaliers took high visual even with bad hash marks. Regarding their placement, it looks to me that they are still within inches of catching Cadets. Its not like Cadets blew away Cavaliers. BD is a different story. I'm not sure if they will be caught this year. Congrats to Blue Devils!!
  6. Were the hash marks visible when Cavies performed? They still won visual with , most likely, the same visibiity. Just curious.
  7. I bet there wasn't a penalty. Why would George call his corps off the field to re-do the marks. I am thinking that was DCI's doing because maybe there marks missing. I really think this wasn't George's doing. I might be wrong. Why are so many of you negative to the possibility that both Cavies/Phantom have improved that much? Both corps are as talented as BD and Cadets. So, there is always that possibility that both Cavies/Phantom are now performing better. If BD wins, my hats off to them. But, I still wouldn't count either Cavies, Phantom, or Cadets out.
  8. I wouldn't count them out yet. I think in 2004 a lot of people did and they surprised everybody with a show that many thought couldn't win. I'm not counting out anybody until Saturday night's scores are announced.
  9. I definitely agree with your choice for #1.
  10. Longer from what I remember ( 70s and 80s). Maybe before, but I wasn't around drumcorps back then.
  11. I would have to believe that those great Fred Sanford SCV drumlines of the 1970s must have been very intimidating to their opponents.
  12. Cavaliers.....always my fave Bluecoats Madison ...........I did the opening and most of their music. Boston Carolina Blue Stars Crossmen.......now they are in Texas!
  13. No, I don't believe it is. Look at the Colts, they had finished 13th before. Now look at them, having a very successful season. One last thing, there are several great shows out there that probably won't be top 12 this year. The kids are having fun and getting to perform. That is the most important thing.
  14. Excuse me, but it is very funny when you say they are only playing quarter notes. When I listen to their shows, I hear many of other rhythms going on. Secondly, they have had hornlines that play with great precision, articulation, tuning, etc. This is what wins championships, not the number of notes being played. I better you would have to practice to play their "easy crap" at a championship level. Their stuff isn't easy, it sounds easy maybe, because they play it so very well. I have heard great concert bands make Persichetti sound wonderfully easy because they are great. Listen to the US Marine Band, they can make any selection sound easy, even if it isn't. One last thing, those cool gimmicks add GE. How come you're not mentioning Cadets using pink tables, a rabbit, etc. I don't hear anybody griping about the over use of narration in shows. I'm not just talking about Cadets, how about Blue Devil dance show. How about 1985 SCV and the tunnel? There have been gimmicks in shows for over 25+ years.
  15. I believe judging starts after the phrase"you may enter the field for competition". I remember back when John Brazale was still doing Phantom Regiment's show. They would do drill and playing for them backfield warmup. It looked great and they didn't get judged for it.
  16. I think it would be great if you do this type of analysis for all of the top 12. I know many of us be interested in your results. Best of luck.
  17. For those who listened to the encore, they played the new ending. Much better than the current one and with visuals, should be a winner! Anybody can win finals............I think there are actually 4 corps , maybe 5 in the chase. Its not over yet folks!! Hold on to your hats.
  18. I agree with you. They are the defending champions. Next year, who will be the NBA team to beat? The Spurs because they are the defending champs, just like Roger Federer is always the men's tennis player to beat. I think when the Cavaliers put in their new ending and continue to clean, they will be the favorite to win. I'm not saying they will, I am saying they will be the favorite.
  19. Jim, Is there a chance that this performance might make it to youtube for those of us who cannot be there? I've always been a big fan of you guys. Congratulations on putting the corps back together! Dennis
  20. Why didn't Crossmen compete at Allentown? I am surprised that they are in neither show.
  21. Hey Rich, That's what I understand. They will be putting the ending in during the Texas tour. I can't wait to see them in San Antonio. I better wear a lot of green.
  22. I agree, but at this point in the season I am hoping that they can just make semis. I feel that the main thing is that they survive and come back next better than ever.
