  1. The high quality of Phantom's music and marching performance made up for any missing guard uniforms and flags.
  2. I will give $50 to the corps who's director is first to reports the voting results (i.e. who voted for/against). Who else is with me? I am serious.
  3. I don't have a life so I have plenty of time to waste. There is disagreement as to what is best for DCI long-term as evident by the 10-10 vote. I doubt any fan of (input your favorite inactive corps) would agree that DCI is doing just fine.
  4. My new list of the ten who voted for is: Cadets Blue Devils Glassmen Boston Crusaders Spirit from JSU Crossmen Blue Knights Bluecoats Cascades Carolina Crown The corps who voted against are trying to save DCI from long-term ruin. I really wish they would state who they are so that I could help their cause.
  5. I don't know how the vote went, but if I had to guess... For: Cadets Blue Devils Glassmen The Cavaliers Boston Crusaders Spirit from JSU Crossmen Mandarins Capital Regiment Mandarins Against: Phantom Regiment Madison Scouts Blue Knights Santa Clara Vanguard Bluecoats Carolina Crown Colts Southwind Cascades The Magic What say you?
  6. I don't like the idea of two people judging the same caption. What will we think when two judges award vastly different scores to the same corps during the same performance?
  7. You may be right about my lack of experiance. I have never been accused of rape. Nor have eaten in a restaurant without someone in my party paying. So do you believe a corps that you marched with was scored lower because a staff member convinced a judge to score another corps higher? This would sound like an excuse to me.
  8. Siggamiggon: I don't understand your "Real Real Life" scenario. Are you saying that staff members can influence how judges score each corps? Even if they could, how is that a conflict of interest? The staff member would want each corps to receive the highest score possible.
  9. Drop the unnecessary and out of context vocals and Blue Stars will be better in 2007.
  10. In your example, the drill designer does not have a conflict of interest. He/she wants both corps to score equally well. There could be a conflict of interest if a designer was to be paid incentives based on a corps performance. Let's say that the designer worked for corps A and B. Corps A and B were tied going to championship week at 6th place. The designer is to be paid $3,000 extra by corps A if they place 6th or higher. Which corps would you work with during the last week? I agree with PupleKnights that as long as the directors are made aware of potential conflicts of interest this really shouldn't be an issue for DCI or anyone else. Besides, let face the reality that Drum Corps can not afford to pay designers a lot of money. That being the case, I would expect designer to have to work for more than one group in order to make a living. Just a fact of life.
  11. If you claim the payment as a tax deductable contribution, the IRS may ask you for proof (receipt). You won't have one so you will be forced to adjust your return. The Cadets won't be able to give you one. If the IRS found out the payment really wasn't a contribution the Cadets would have committed tax fraud.
  12. If we can require kids to complete twelve years of education, then we can require a couple years of drum corps.
  13. What do you think an all inclusive event coverage for DCI would cost?
  14. Most business do...it's called Business Continuity Planning (BCP).
  15. I highly doubt DCI would purchase such an insurance policy. These types of policies tend to be very expensive because it is difficult for insurance companies to predict the probability of loss. Are you in the insurance business? Because, I disagree with you that being purdent means DCI should purchase such an expensive policy.
  16. Change is difficult. It is also part of the reality of the world. Madison's professional and staff position are no different. The Board decided not to extend the contract for Sylvester Salas. In other words, everyone should have know that this was a possibility. Successful organizations that exist for a long time do so because they prepare for and nurture change. I don't know how the board came to their decision, although I have my guesses. However, it is apparent that the Board wanted more for the organization that what they were getting from management. Is it so wrong to try to better the organization?
  17. Does anyone know if the Scouts sold less in souvenirs the last three years than during other periods? I would assume '95 and '96 were big years for them. The crowds were insane for them. I assume the crowd found their souvenirs stand. I know that a lot of people supported the Sal directed Scouts on this forum, but is that enought. Is placement enought? I am trying to figure out how much the lack of a crowd pleasing show may have effected the Boards decision.
  18. Now that DCI Championships will be in Indy and the rest of the schedule will be more locked down than it is today. DCI will be in a better position to monitor corps and devote resources during the offseason to ensure the organization structures are strong and financially stable. I don't know if DCI needs physical 'volunteers' to 'spy' on corps. I would suggest that DCI create a logistical department where director are required to call in daily and discuss transportation, food and health issues.
  19. The 2006 Madison show was a design failure. Plain and simple. The students played and marched excellent. Another year with that type of design would not yield success. I support the Board's decision.
  20. When I logged on to DCI.org today and saw the notice about the CDs shipping, I just about #### my pants. The DCI management and staff have done a lot to bring in revenue and support the member Corps. Excellent...keep up the good work.
  21. I am all for eliminating the D2/3 scoring sheets. In fact, how about eliminating all D2/3 corps! If there are thousands of kids turned away from top Corps each year, there should be no reason why Corps are marching with less than their maximum allowed.
  22. The stadium took a step backwards with the remodeling. More seats and suites for football and nothing else. I could write more, but what's the point. DCI will never be back their again. And who are these idiots who think that their stadium "security" will actually protect us or corps members from anything. C'mon, beside slowing everyone down, what is the goal here? Without metal detectors and pad downs there is little way to stop someone from bringing in a weapon or their favor snack. I know this complaint has little to do with Drum Corps and more about the state of our society, but I hate the appearance of security were there is none. At least a few college students had a job for a couple of hours.
