  1. Have Mike Plachta and Bill Howard figured out how to split their joint Kanstul sop??? Best of luck to SoCal Dream's Jan. 5 rehearsal and beyond!
  2. T'anks to one et al. for the Feliz Cumpleanos oles. I was given a heads-up about Vic's shenanigans, but I was too busy ayer denying my b'day. It was a great day. Only one thing can top a 35-person lead line wailing triple Cs @ ffff!...Hmmm, we won't go there on the Family Channel. Mistress Kelli, Chip and all ladies! You made my day! Youse guys are all right. I hope y'all ('Bamaspeak for multiple carbon life forms, no Borgs allowed) have a Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays! Off to do 10 pushups...I still can do, Donny.
  3. 52 horns! 35 guard! Wow! It must be true. It's in print. I'm gonna run with this. Man the presses... ...Sounds like a wunnerful open house. Did you have a snow storm? It's much more holidayish to have blustering snow for open house like the Mad Plaid one I visited.
  4. Lee, I'm looking forward to catching the aught eight 'Gades. Kafka? I was on a Kafka kick in college, reading most of his works. Buddy is perfect for ya' -- Cocky, jazzy 'n kickbutt.
  5. Donny, I have fond memories of the Macy's '94 experience. I keep giving Hershman and DiCarlo a hard time that it is time to do it again, but it's a li'l complicated. The memories keep coming back like "Today."
  6. Tom, I appreciate your "predictionament" there in Starbucks Country. With so li'l dc, I spent much of my time underwater in Pungent Noise while residing on Bainbridge Island.
  7. Fran and Barb, Thanks for the latest news. We all continue to wish Barb the best. I love crossword puzzles, too. I hope to see Barb next year working I&E.
  8. Many years UNLV has had an all-female cymbal line. Some years, it almost appears they were seeking a certain look, then worked on their cymbal skills. B) As the years progressed, UNLV has had some talented plate lines.
  9. Me no like da' 35-minimum rule. I don't want minicorps' limit raised. I just want the DCA 35 rule to go away, at least be reduced. DCI has a 30 rule which cut out some fine DCI corps.
  10. The Kilties are one of the finest organizations I've ever been associated with in terms of how they know the non-profit, charitable organization laws. When I've pointed out to other organizations that they could save money for themselves and for individual members if they'd simply apply some of the Kilities practices, I've been surprised out how few have seem interested. I thank the Kilties for saving me some $$ while I marched there. The Kiltie Hilton is fantastic!
  11. Great thread. I love cymbal lines, musically and visually. SCV featured theirs superbly. C.J. Jones, Wally Schlieg, Al DeSantis et al. have been so entertaining. I'd love to see a skilled UNLV type of cymbal line, too. B)
  12. Lots of great names. Donny Allen is a personal fave of mine. He knows the nuances of brass and teaches superbly as does Kenny Norman. I've always liked John "Screech" Arietano's charts. Love "Sunrise Lady." Jerry Kelsey has written fantastically for Empire and Kilties. Dave Henry and Darryl Jones have both done phenomenal books for the CorpsVets. Chuck Naffier is an exceptional arranger. Jim McFarland knows how to teach the brass. For Post #1,001, it's great to list these fine arrangers/cap heads.
  13. Allen, I simply can't say enough about the excellent job you, Dave Bruni, the entire Empire family, Rochester city, Paetec Park, and the police did for '07! The Rochester Police were exceptional. When one spotted me spinning a Borg cube, wearing a Hawaiian shirt with a tribble sticking out of my pocket, he thought, "Just another drum corps fan," and went on his way. Start making the human sacrifices for next year's weather.
  14. I can't wait to see what Derby City Knights with Matt Basey might crank out. Excelsior has a great start based on their minicorps stage appearance. Gasparilla and Austin Stars sure have me curious. Hope to see y'all out there in the near future...When you're ready.
  15. I was impressed with Fusion Core. Congrats to Chris. Best of luck to Fusion Core!
  16. I finally figured out you had a reserved seat in Le Club 107 -- Either that or you were staying all night each night. Great to see you and see you and toast you as I scampered by. Gotta luv Rachacha!
  17. Cincinnati Tradition has been around since 1983 as a fine alumni corps. Tradition has helped several other corps. I'm delighted that Tradition is moving into drill, possibly competition. I wish y'all well. Check 'em out, folks!
  18. Larrie, Wow! Controversy. Meet me at the nearest coffin and we'll settle this. ^0^ I haven't dug into this so much since years ago on trumpetherald: Here's how I used to think of it, probably similar to you: The low F#/G are just that: Low. Thus, the G in the staff is Middle, G just above the staff is High, making the G four ledger lines above the staff Double G. As a teen, when I reached that F# then G four ledger lines above the staff, I proudly claimed my dubba range. (Listening to Inspires as I think this through. Maybe www.jazzplayerradio.com would be even more appropriate.) In college, my trumpet profs "corrected me," saying the double series begins at double C. This creates a highly confusing area where High G is...What? Some call it the G just above the staff, others the G above high C. Confronting my profs with just that (I've never been shy about controversy), they called them: "G above the staff" and the octave above "High G," making the G above double C "Double G." When I Googled >trumpet double G< last night, it put me into several sites where this argument is still alive and well. It's never been settled. My profs beat it into me. I complied.
  19. Larrie, Totally agree with ya' here. It began in DCI, reining the high note players and has spread to some DCA corps, fortunately, not in the rebellious Renegades. From Murfreesboro to the GA Dome to Pasadena, I was impressed by Giovanni Laidler, BD's sop guy, who never missed his note but was never featured on it either. I wrote that I hope Giovanni has a feature next year. Overall, I did see more soloists in DCI in aught seven than recent years. I hope this trend continues in DCI.
  20. Larrie, You know I highly respect you, but I'm sticking with the crowd that begins "dubba" at double-high C, super C. This topic sent me off to trumpetherald and more sites last night. It's still a confusing hot potato there, and I'll call a G four ledger lines above the staff a high G. No big deal. We can all sleep well.
  21. Bob, Triple C, which is what I said early on in this thread. I had even told Roger Grupp to listen for a triple C, which I heard from Dave Vasquez. Congrats on your superb range, Mr. Vasquez. Like every DCA corps I know, I'm proud that the staff of Dream is encouraging and aiding Dave Vasquez to pursue DCI while he can...Then, come back to DCA.
  22. Tony, I PMed the exact same thing to brassop earlier this afternoon, listing Todd and many other fine MBI folks who I believe would box his ears for such slams. As he's continued to do it two posts below yours, I'll now post publicly. Never in my life have I read such an insult by anyone from MBI as his original. However, if I ever hear that MBI or anyone else censors their members here, I'll be contacting that corps. He exercised his freedom of speech as did I in my PM to him.
  23. Interesting timing. I've been listening to 4 years of Inspires today. Fantastic music! I'd love to see Yokohama Inspires reappear at DCA.
  24. Nanci, Fantastic photos. Thanks so much for sharing! Hope to see you again at a corps event soon!
