  1. RIP Ed. Ed was a great guy. We shared many good times with the Alumni - especially our year long journey culminating in the 1995 DCI Finals appearance. Although often overlooked -our '96 and '97 drum lines were smokin! Ed also participated in several of my ensemble projects and developed into an excellent snare drummer. He was also well versed in American history which fueled some of our philosophical late nights. He was also a spectacular military model maker. RIP my friend. See ya!
  2. Great idea Gary! You can teach us old dogs a new trick or two!
  3. I'm glad someone has picked up this thread. I posted on another thread about this disgracefully run abortion of a show! My party was screwed out of 25% of the show due to inept gate management. Who is responsible for this ?
  4. Hard to believe that NOBODY is holding the Buff production crew responsible for this travesty! I arrived at 6 and watched the line to enter grow until, at 7PM-when the gates opened- it was all the way to the field house! No problem, surely they will open a sufficient number of gates to get everyone seated - NOT! the only way in was via the 3 entrances at Gate 2. As Cadets stepped off the line was still almost to the field house and the bottleneck showed no signs of relief. Not being physically able to stand for long periods, I relied on my normal tactic of waiting for the lines to dissipate. After all we did have $40 reserved seats so why should there be a problem? We ultimately settled into our seats in time for SCV, having missed what I understand were great performances by Cadets and PR. Can someone explain why this mis-management occurred? DCI should be offering a 25 - 30% rebate at the very least to say nothing of the aggravation that hundreds of fans must have felt! Anger was the prevailing emotion last night, has everyone developed amnesia?!
  5. Seems like a common sentiment that "audience engagement" should carry more weight and I agree. The difficulties in analyzing this with regard to local allegiances, history, mystique, etc have also been noted. Because the fans are the life blood of the activity I believe that more should be done to perfect this adjudication philosophy with respect to objectivity - a tall order. Both Jersey and Madison would benefit from this approach. Remember there would be NO DC if not for the fans. BTW- Kudos to BRASSO -like your thinking but ran out of "positives"
  6. nice to hear from an un-tarnished apolitical "rookie"
  7. Does anyone know when the Fan network San Antonio broadcast begins?
  8. Scouts drum line with 3 consecutive solid shows sandwiching the disappointing Minnie result. Beat Phantom's line last week. This line is for real!!! Only 0.5 in back of Cadets last night. GO SCOUTS! Well done. Hopefully the judges are becoming more comfortable with giving the line their just rewards.

  11. I'm guessing SCV is up now. That would mean that Pio, Scouts and BK have performed. Someone please correct me if wrong.
  12. Sorry-went to bed. My son had clued me in on the nice score they received as I'm sure you all know now.
  13. A little bird tells me that JJ scored Scouts drum line where it should be, IMHO!
  14. I believe there are only 3 returnees in the snare line (my son being one). The talent level seems a touch higher overall and Lee has been around alot!Kids are pumped! sorry Bill-I missed your post but at least we are confirmatory!
  15. I would like to add the Stork family to the long list of people whose lives Dick touched. From Appleknocker days to just last DCA I&E Joe, Robin and I were often the recipients of the kindness of this good man. May he rest in peace.
  16. AGREED - the Madison line has improved imensely the past 10 days!
  17. Oh they are proof read..........by idiots
  18. Yeah, my bad. Although I do maintain an active role in todays percussion instruction and try to be objective, I was out of line in this case. Just relieved to see that they are going in the right direction. I will try to keep my pride and prejudice under control. No disrespect meant to BAC at all - I like their perc book alot.
  19. Madison takes BAC in drums for the first time since June, I believe. Nice when a judge is smart (and brave) enough to reflect reality and not just go by the peer pressured status quo !!!!!
  20. SAME. Wondered since the start what, historically, let alone musically, connects these works. Perhaps some of the know it alls will grace us mortals with guidance
