  1. OK, someone call the mayor of Michigan City and tell him he needs to put a dome over Ames Field for next year .
  2. I would hope that they could have the corps do like the "old days" and hold prelims in the morning and finals at night. They at least get to still perform two times to determine the Champion.
  3. As long as they compete in today's OC Prelims, they are invited to compete in Thursday's WC Prelims. All judging will be done on WC sheets with WC "tolerances".
  4. No, they are "World Class Prelims" predictions, based on what DCI is calling it: Complete 2011 World Championships Schedule of Events (see Thursday, August 11th).
  5. Yep. Radar is showing a solid mass of rain just now crossing the IL/IN border. No chance they added a dome to the stadium in Mich. City in the last few weeks?
  6. Because Marie was judging guard. She does really bizarre things sometimes most times.
  7. Heard Blue Stars will be getting rid of all props in 2012, will march in a box for 11.5 minutes, while playing one long ballad. They'll be very competitive with PR with this show.
  8. Yeah, how dare he judge the actual performances on the field, instead of looking at the names and slotting them based on history as the DCI Judges Handbook says . Stuff happens. Lines have bad nights and others have good nights. I appreciate a judge willing to translate that into real scores.
  9. Heard Blue Stars are getting rid of all props, marching in a box for 11.5 minutes, while playing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and "Do-Re-Mi". Their score should jump 10 points if they do it clean, particularly in GE.
  10. Best: 1. Cadets 2. Crown They both entertain the crap out of me. Worst: 1. Blue Knights (I've already seen the 1970-1971 27th show. No need to do it again. Nice push up to 144 bpm though ). 2. Madison (Insulting to any true NYers).
  11. My only issue with this point is that there are literally thousands of schools in this country and Canada that do not have marching band programs. If you are a kid who happens to live there and wants to do something in the marching arts, what is there for you? Very few families can and will move just to find a good school with a marching band. This is where drum corps came in during the 70's and 80's and where it can again. Even with the crappy attitudes of people like danielray toward something below the standards of DCI WC.
  12. Looking at that map, it would be great to see Austin, Prairie Sound, the project in Tulsa, and the project in Shreveport all make it. If you include Vigilantes, GCS, Ark Thunder, and HCB, that would make eight corps all within a reasonable distance of each other. They could have a whole summer of shows just in that six state region, and then meet the DCS corps in a middle point area like Memphis or Birmingham for a huge regional a couple of weeks before championships.
  13. A Phantom fan and a former member. Make nice folks.

  15. Once their show officially starts, it seems like Blue Stars' brass has very little time that they are not playing. Their show does not have any real "drum solo", other than the small section snippets, like the tenor feature.
  16. 70's/80's drum corps: - The buses sucked. - The food sucked. - There were many corps that did not meet minimum standards of care for their members. - Early on, many of the housing sites sucked. - There were alot of shows in reallllly bad stadiums. - Judging of corps beween the different circuits was very erratic. Corps could get a 75 at a DCE show one night and a 56 at a DCI show in Illinois the next night. - Overage was out of control. - Jackson, Mississippi.
  17. It may also be the fact that they spend alot of time standing still while playing their tougher licks, while other corps are booking it across the field during their tough parts.
  18. Why does INT only get to do small ensemble performances???? Why can't they do their whole show????
  19. To answer the highlighted part: 1. Madison is a perennial top-six corps that just had a couple of really bad seasons, whereas Glassmen, BK, Colts, and, in modern history, Spirit are just not in the top 6 consistently. Madison's improvement last year and this is pretty impressive but, based on history, is not really surprising. The staff has made a huge difference, which was really not unexpected considering their past achievements. Madison is not the same as Star of Indiana, which literally came out of nowhere. Madison already had a couple of DCI Championships under their belt. 2. The season is no where near over yet. Boston has been creeping up on Madison the last few shows, and the only time that Madison beat Blue Stars was in one show when they were really on and Blue Stars had a really bad night. Once we get into the meat of the season (Minneapolis and on), we'll see if Madison is really a top-6 corps this year, or just a little more competitive in the 8-10 range.
  20. I thought tonight was a full panel. It's after July 4th and all shows are supposed to be full panels.....
  21. [sarcasm] Yeah, I've NEVER heard a shout of SPLOOIE anywhere near a stadium. [/sarcasm]
