  1. Unfortunately DCI has brought this on themselves...By rewarding the inner loop of the DCI political wing what you have is the whole trying to emulate its parts...I wonder what would happen if I started a Corps ala Star of Indy practiced for 2 years and came out with a more retro style of corps? I'd bet my hypothetical corps would be begging for another seson in DIV1. :sshh: :sshh: :sshh:
  2. Did you mean Jim Wedge? As far as the drum line goes, the 83-87 Dips had Tyrone Parker and Lynne Parker(didnt ever get her maiden name) as percussion instructors with Tyrone being the cartion head and arranger. In 85 we had a smokin drum line, won percussion in class by 1.5 pts and ended up beating some other notable corps drum lines along the way! That is the impact of 27 on me.( Not too mention I still hear "Da digga DA da DIGGA da" in my sleep) B) B) B)
  3. This past weekend my sister and I pulled out her old drum corps box!!! We still have the Defenders pin we got at the '79 E-mass FinalsShe also has a ton of Pic's to include the Bev Crusaders, Arbella, Dippies and North Stah She has a ton a flag silks and her most impressive piece a early '80's Gauntlet from The Madison Scout CG... And thats what I can remember off the top of my head B) B) B)
  4. I think that in order to consider this debate, pose the same question at the begining of the season. The visual is not quite there but usally the shows with the cleanest music will win out...Much as form follows function I believe visual follows music...So I guess that's a yes
  5. North Star 27th Defenders Arbella And bring back (or rename again) The Malden Diplomats(aka ECJ)
  6. Take it from a soldier who has polished brass for years, Mothers Mag Polish is the only way to go. B) B) B)
  7. The '83 Garfield Cadets show transformed DCI into what it is today...That show was a masterpiece in every facet of Drum Corps...Thank you Mr. Zingali
  8. How about good old fashioned straps...A little crude for this day and age but nonetheless effective...
  9. There was a Bass cadence that the 80's Bridgemen did call Colonize your Ant Farm that was totally amazing...That line is the yard stick that every line should judge themselves by, any other standard is just ridiculous
  10. Does any one remember in the 80's we all had to learn Youll Never Walk Alone to be played at full retreats...Now that was a hornline to blow you away
  11. I got into drum corps in the summer of 1977. I lived right next to where the Beverly Crusaders rehearsed ans saw the fun those guys were having I was determined to see a show...When I asked my mom about it she informed that her best friend had a daughter who march in the Shooting Stars( an eastern MA Class C corp and a feeder for North Star) and hated the Beverly Crusaders. For my sister the Beverly Crusaders were just too close to ignore and joined them in '78...From that time on we were E-Mass/DCE junkies and North Stah were what all those corps wanted to be...The early '80's were tough to take as we lost: The Beverly Crusaders, Arbella(arguably on of the best female Corps), and NORTHSTAH...All was not lost though most of thier equipment and busses went to other corps and to this day the Drum Corps Hall in Malden is still in use by East Coast Jazz...They are our only hope for the North Shore of Ma. to return to prominence on the DCI scene... Thank You North Star for turning me into a DCI fan...You were wicked awesome!
  12. Where are the Diplomats from Malden MA? For me though I'll take the Bridgemen. I anticipated there shows more than any of the others.
  13. Avante Guard in '85! You must know Paul Cain. Do you have any news on his whereabouts. I marched in the Diplomats of Malden Ma and he did some work with us as well.
  14. Hey you forgot The Diplomats from Malden. 1985's top percusion in Class A finals, as well as top a 15 in open class.
  15. I loved the VK '84 show! I also thought the debut of Star was awesome as well.
  16. Phantom was always known for their classical music...Do the Anniversary right and go back to classical, especially Beethoven
  17. The '84 Spirit horn line was very loud and amped to be at home! Speeking of whitch that had to have been the hottest 'turf' i have ever marched on. I could feel the souls on my bucks melting. That was hottttt
  18. Too many out state marchers discouraged Kidets and the feeder corps folded...Withuot parade income from them the Big Corps went under finanancial hardships...Not to mention that was during the rise of Garfield(or whatever they call themselves now)
  19. here's a link http://www.bigscreenconcerts.com/
  20. I am sorry for your disappointment this season the best thing I can say is to tell your child that the pain will lessen and to use your disappointment to improve yourself...Alot of members have used the smaller Corps experience to propell them to a top twelve corps...Keep at it your determination will pay off
