  1. All competitiveness aside, and regardless of whether or not any given's show resonates with fans, the corps just keep getting BETTER and BETTER every year. There are corps that don't make finals NOW that would have easily made top 5 back in my day.
  2. No. Having said that, I'd give ANYTHING to be wrong.
  3. BD will win. And, if by some crazy reason they don't, it'll probably be the Cavaliers.
  4. Didn't need to win.............beating BD was enough. Heck, at least the Scouts had a great visual program!
  5. 1988 will never leave my memory either........to see a corps with the hands down best musical show with absolutely no visual program whatsoever............no wonder they lost. Flame away. It's OK with me, I got the brunt of it JOINING BD in 89 after kicking their ##### in 88. I might as well get SOME mileage out of the lumps I've already taken.
  6. I am still trying to figure out who has my favorite show this year: Crown or Bluecoats. They are the two most entertaining to me so far this year. Maybe it'll be 'Coats..........Crown has been my undisputed favorite for the last two seasons, but I still can't make up my mind!
  7. I agree. NO ONE WILL CATCH BD. Having said that, it is NOT my favorite show this year, but they are executing the XXXX out of it and deserve the accolades they are receiving. I continue to have problems wrapping my mind around how to judge their visual design/execution against other corps (Musically, in my humble opinion, they have more or less already won) but whatever they are doing, the judges LOVE it and there is no indication that this will change anytime soon. My advice to BD's competitors: Figure out what they are doing that the judges love so much, and figure out how to do it better than them. Because I see BD doing something VERY DIFFERENT visually, it is WORKING, and until someone figures out how to conquer it get used to seeing multiple rings on BD's members fingers.
  8. Part of me wishes we could all go back to the way things used to be, as is being reminded us courtesy of Madison Scouts: Big, LOUD, and actual musical phrases one can hum and not a bag of drum corps tricks stuck in a blender. Madison Scouts, YOU ARE TRULY LOVED.
  9. I don't know if I'd say they judging system is simply "out of whack"...... I am of the humble opinion that what BD is doing, is just DIFFERENT than what other corps are doing, and not sure if the same adjudication ruler is any longer applicable to fairly compare the two. BD is, quite frankly, ACHIEVING "absurdity", and doing it so well the judges LOVE it! The $20,000 dollar question, as far as I see it, is: To BEAT BD, do other corps now have to start inventing mirror/chair gimmicks, dance and run around more and do it BETTER than BD? Because, and I will fight ANYONE on this: BD's show is NOT easy, and the members are working their ##### off. However, I find it nearly impossible to be able to gauge visual cleanliness the same way between what BD is doing, and seemingly what all the other corps are doing. And, for the record, I DO enjoy BD's show this year. However, I'd have to say my favorite this year so far is a tossup between Bluecoats and Crown.
  10. Since they seem to do a hell of a lot more running, dancing and posing this year as opposed to having much conventional marching, I am curious: Is there a specific running posture or technique that they employ, or is it just run like hell and be in this spot on this count? Since the judges are eating it up, there's got to be some kind of technique at work that they are executing similarly that the judges are rewarding them for. And to those that would interpret my words as kind of a bash, they are NOT. I marched with BD for two years, and would NEVER bash them. They are not my favorite show this year, I'll give you that, but there MUST be some reason why running around in a mad scatter is beating corps that are marching cleanly and crisply, and with great difficulty.
  11. If there's ANY corps I would describe as being "BACK", it would have to be, hands down, the Cavaliers! Loved EVERY SINGLE drill move and note of every show from 2000 thru 2006, liked 2007 a lot, and.....well, just got nothin' out of their shows the past two years. I really don't mean to insult the hardworking kids who marched those shows, they executed well I just really didn't get anything out of the show designs. But, holy hell, the Green Machine is ON FIRE This year!
  12. ####! Looks like Randy beat me to it! You know, I think Crown is the only major past/present DCI Finalist that has yet to be represented within the membership ranks of the Renegades................we need to change that!
  13. Absolutely not. There should not, under ANY circumstances, exist a system that would not place corps where they belong according to THAT NIGHT'S PERFORMANCE.
  14. I've wanted to try a Rheingold ever since the product was positioned in the movie "Down to Earth" as Chris Rock's character's favorite beer. Where is it sold?
  15. Then I would like to congratulate the 2010 Kidsgrove Scouts on ALREADY becoming the 2010 DCA International Champion. (Perhaps I should wait until their flight lands??)
  16. Drum Corps (at least at the junior level) is one of the most physically demanding art forms in existence. Why would you want to take a step down and be called a "sport"?
