  1. Cavies Alumni Great Job! I loved the show. The old school uni's were cool. The drums were great! THe guard really super! But I must say I enjoyed the horns the most (I'm a soprano). Great sound!! Good stuff all around. Drum corps needs more satin. Thanks again and thanks for the memories. Randy Ferrie Director MSARP
  2. First off, fearing for your childs saftey is a little over the top. Not a lot of band nerds beating the sheet out of each other these days. I saw the Cadets in Madison. I loved the horn line ( I am a trumpet playing nerd) Most powerful and full sound I have heard at DCI in long time. But with the Friends set in the middle of the field it is hard to ignore. I especially like how the narration centers around negative and yes real world problems. I live in the real world, I want to go enjoy a show and be free from the everyday BS. I do like how all the narration is of elements that you can't be against. Breast cancer.....if you don't support it you hate your mother. Divorce......if you don't support our shows theme, you hate your mother. Single mom at work fighting against the good old boys club........hummmmmm. maybe there is a message. Support our show or everyone will know that you hate your mom. Maybe she had an affair in her buisness world which caused the divorce and the poor guy she cheated on got the shaft and the kids. There was not a lot of narration about the 3 kids that she shafted because she had to be out in the exciting world of buisness. She just uses them as a crutch or a trophy as needed. I've seen it a thousand times. You are right, I could feel the contempt for you childs corps. But more for detracting from what could be a great show. As for saftey. I doubt it. RF
  3. Madison alumni and Suporters Don't forget the official unofficial get together to support the corps at the Stadium bar starting around 3pm. We will be raising funds for the Scouts, get your one time only T-shirt......I gave the Madison Scouts GAS!!!. RF
  4. Hey Cossetti, you voted to repeal prohibition didn't you RCF the King
  5. As I see it no Booze, no Alumni corps. Thank God prohibition was repealed. RCF the King
  6. I was in 3 True Madison Alumni MSARP Bridgemen......non Alumni Reilly Raiders....non alumni. I have a great time with all three, three different worlds, three different objectives All with the same overall plan. play with great players, get Drunk make life long friends. As for hurting recruitment, I say Na..Na. Would the non members have joined that particular corps if it was not the one that they followed and loved? RCF the King
  7. lyn don't tell me that I'm making STUPID STATEMENTS. I for one know how much it cost to run a corps. I was stating my opinion. And that's how I still feel. If it was important to them they would have made it. I do not think that doing TOS would keep them from making Bloomington. As for a recession.....I run 2 companies. I know that there is a recession ON! You on the other hand ................... I do not believe that you are the press secretary for George L or for George H. Marching a practice with the Cadets does not make you an expert. RF
  8. That is the biggest bag of BS that I have heard in a long time. 1/5 of the budget increase. Where are they coming from and this is only 1 of 5 gigs that they are to travel to? WOW, ....It's not a recession its a small downturn. At least come up with a better explaination of the economic impact. 1/5 of 3.25% of BS
  9. in 1977 Madison Breakfast crew and lunch crew.. were the first ones awake. We would go to the nearest supermarket breakfast 2% milk flintstone vitamin dixie cup of off brand cereal dixie cup of oj lunch dixie cup of milk 2 slices of bread 2 slices of mystery lunch meat pre show dinner on your own post show dinner Billy beer RF
  10. I marched in the Scouts and the Scouts Alumni Project. I also marched 2 years with Bridgemen Alumni. I must say that it is a much closer feel in the Project compared to the Bridgemen. Marching with guys that got you intersested in coming to Madison as well as marching with the guys you watched after you aged out. In the Project we are all Brothers. For the most part, I had come in contact with most of the Project members over the years or knew a friend of a friend. Marching in a lead line with a who's who of Madison if not DCI still amazes me. Guys like Metzger, Schipper, Owens, Jarosz, Coolidge, Lile, Strueber, Ybara, Bakker and Albert(from the Netherlands). Marching in the Bridgemen was a little different, I was not an original member. They are run very well and there are many great people. But there is an slight undertow of cadet era vs yellow coat era vs non marching members. Which if you think about it, is probably natural. Although all are welcome, you still feel it. I really enjoyed marching with the Bridgemen. I especially loved playing in the lead line with some great guys. Some will remain friends for life. McDermott, Hoover, Dom, Hunter, Sponge Bob, Darth Vayda, Fat Bob, Always Solid Bob, Creeden the horse and of course Sperm. All under the musical direction of Mr Jim Jordan and Uncle Johnson. I'm not saying all actual alumni is better than non actual alumni. These are things that I have experienced. I must say that at the end of a show with the people cheering and I just blew my jabronies off, I am a Madison Scout again. I am a Bridgemen. I am a Reilly Raider. I am part of the group I just performed with. The rush is that you know you laid it out there and the guys in the line with you did the same. That's what makes me a Drum Corps person. RF
  11. SoundmanG That's pretty cool. Robert also marched in the Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project or as we call it "The Project" He marched rifle as he did in 1976. He also, which I think is really cool, went on the infamous Gong Show and won. If you remember that was a crazy show. RF
  12. I just marched a parade in Las Vegas with the Reilly Raiders. THe Temperature :70 degrees parade length : 1 mile slight down hill the whole way no turns crowd...6-8 deep the whole way After the parade many, many Miller Lites and many great drum corps stories with a great group of old schoolers RF
  13. 6 corps ala Blast or larger for smaller indoor venues. They will all tour together in a drum corps palozza type of caravan. Championship will be a side light as the Alumni Spectacular is to DCA. This was predicted 20 years ago by someone on the DCI board. RF
  14. Highest note as told to me by Shawk was Chris Metzger at the end of Bond Street in 74 Check it out 1974 Madison Scouts RF
  15. By far the most liberal bleeding heart opening of a topic I've ever seen on this site. You must be kidding! Do you think DC should use elbow pads, knee pads and DOT approved protective headgear. maybe vitual DC so everyone wins and nobody looses. God forbid that someone win and someone not. This activity came from military roots. Also if you did not know,.....there made of wood!!!!!!!!!!!! RF
  16. I went to a UNLV football game against the Badgers and they had full bars at the stadium. When i asked how could the NCAA allow it, I was told "This is Vegas,we do it all" Did DCI not get a piece of the concessions? RF
  17. I would like to see Kilt's in the finals. Thier soloist is great. I love Greg Jarosz, the plumma RF
  18. People are obviously tired of a few individuals telling them what they want to view as a DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS. This seems to have struck a chord here. How many corps will fill their show with vocals next year? Who will be the one to cross the line again or will this phase go away. If GH is true to his vision he would have more narration next year than this year. Or will he heed the mass's sentiment and go and search for another direction to push the envelope? Did the Cadets get everyones attention? Who was talked about the most this year? Good, bad or indifferent? I do feel bad for the kids BUT I did not like so much narration. Would they have won without the narration? Also, would any of the people that were so upset by the narration who BOOOOOOOOOed the Cadets gone up as an individual and stood in front of the Cadets and boooooed them. I doubt it. There is anonyimity in numbers. Change is a Bitxx nobody likes it. If it is a good change it will stand the test of time. if it is a bad change it will fall by the wayside. Myself I love the old ways, but still come to see the new. Remember these are just kids out there. But the 3 or 4 people in the backgound pulling the strings are notare not. RF
  19. Bridgemen78-82?? That guard was hot. like looking at the sun. you wanted to stare but only took in little peeks at a time. Rf
  20. Lance, I can tell by the number of posts that you have done that you know drum corps. I guess my word bando is out of line. It's not that I don't like, or appreciate the new style / new era drum corps. I'm sure these people work as hard if not harder than anyone ever did. But you must be careful, everything is relative to it's time. I hear some being selfish and I feel that I can do the same to justify my generation. So Lance, what generation and organization did you march with? RF
  21. The new wave DC people can not argue with old because they were not there. The old schoolers were there and now see where the activity is going and have a leg to stand on in an argument.(even though it's on a hover round) I like the old, but thats what I know. But When I was marching in and 1975 and was told of the Lt Norman Price, Riley Raiders and other corps of the generation prior to us we held those corps in high regard. The bando's of today care only for what they know and to heck with the rest. RF
  22. I guess that means Charlie has nothing better to do!!! RF
  23. Back in the late 70's we did a show we called "LCI" the lawn chair invitational in Horicon Wi. very very small RF
