  1. At one of BAC's Spring Flings many years back, it cost an alumnus around $1,500 to direct the corps. Stood on a table which was a little unsteady. They did the auction from the banquet room.
  2. Big time bummer and a corps, Beverly, who hasn't competed in decades, gets a better line-up. Maybe DCI can start assigning corps to the East Coast like other corps seem to get each year.
  3. Good morning children! Hope you're all rested up after another night of serious contest discussions. Soaking your hands in cold water will help with the swelling finger(s). Watch it Brasso, you're going to hit an average of 6 posts per day soon. Sorry I'm late. Had to check my dress blues (31 years old and they still fit) and shine my G-bugle before playing taps for another WWII veteran. Some Bugles Across America members are very busy these days. Then there was a start to packing for a 3 day trip to LI, NY for our sons wedding. Very glad to see the 'Saders do well last night. Let's hope they don't go back to the stretch 7-10 days ago, with time off Junior, where they were stuck in the 81-82 range, or what took place last year at this time after a nice jump in score. RE: Page one and post #16 of this topic. For those already thinking/saying there he goes again with the negative feces, I'm just stating historical fact. May the positive results of last night motivate them through these three important contests in Texas and the final seven they are in before Finals Week. Time for you to soak your hands for another 20 minutes. I imagine some of you will need a healthy finger or three again tonight.
  4. I did! Not buying that? Then try Vince Lombardi during his Packer days.
  5. I've watched Sesame Street in the past! A chosen color to increase the odds of being seen by people who are not driving a vehicle properly.
  6. They did begin a push, but were stuck for about a week before August 1st when a more consistent climb in scores began. Everyone will be making changes/additions now, but let's hope the ones you mentioned will be well received by all. 2009 7-20 82.6 7-23 86.0 7-26 83.125 7-27 84.25 7-28 85.65 7-30 84.95 7-31 84.35 8-1 86.35
  7. Your sarcastic question didn't include son(s). When Big Bird shows up to a contest sometime in the years ahead, you'll have your answer in person or from someone else.
  8. Was just responding 1084 to a poster who questioned what I had done/was doing to help the corps. After 70 years and an original DCI member, it would be nice if they were doing better placement wise than corps with a much shorter pedigree. Somehow these corps have found a good formula, but in some aspects of life, it may come down to whose war chest is bigger. Seeing BAC average age increasing is a very good sign.
  9. Have no problem with post-Howard staff, but frustrated with too many out of the top six finishes. Before anyone responds about "it's about the performance", then don't keep score.
  10. I claim ignorance to whom you are Ms./Sir since your profile is limited, but will accept your comment that we know each other. That being the case, you know that I'm like many BAC alumni who want them to do well, but have been disappointed in recent leadership and how serious they want the corps to challenge each year. Referring to the corps as BAC was born when I marched. We were Bad A## Crusaders because we were interested in trying to win contests, not that we put on a good show. As you know then, we let the judges know, occasionally, our feelings during retreat, if we felt the corps as a section or the whole corps got robbed. Sorry that the money generated by my donated Silent Auction item this year and the 3 digit amount donated to the current challenge with Madison does not help the corps.
  11. Should have been a little more clearer on my thoughts. I feel they should be competing more, especially since they began 3/4 contests behind many other corps.
  12. Great idea with the challenge, but giving anything to your competitor doesn't help your team. It's like a "bullet" vote in politcal elections.
  13. I've only checked on BAC schedule so I'm not aware of how many other corps are having a lot of down-time this past week plus. Just curious if any corps with several days off will go up in score by two or more points in MN. With BAC stuck for 5/6 contests at 81 and when they finally broke 82, it was a small increase over their high of 81.8. In my humble opinion, if they don't hit a high 83/low 84 tomorrow night, some staff members have some explaining to do. Most corps average some improvement each night. BAC may have this years "stuck in neutral for the most contests" award. So while the heavy hitters are already 84 and higher and cleaning like heck, the 'Saders have been spinning their wheels. I put that on staff more-so than the marching members. Please keep all sharp instruments away from Craiga!
  14. The citizens of five SW states will not share your thoughts.
  15. Only .25 above their previous high. But, they are ahead of last years scores.
  16. Well done to all the corps who earned the money.
  17. Please compare the time-line and the number of posts by the two of us. I haven't, but guess you've blown me away. The following was copied from another topic (Kalamazoo), but something for you all to kick-around since BAC competed tonight. Time to take Big Bird out for a spin. Oh yeah, not a cop, but someone who was in a tougher LEO career, a Corrections Officer. QUOTE (Ghost @ Jul 11 2010, 02:43 PM) Let's hope you're right. They've been stuck at 81 for four contests with one day off. From tonight until the 21st (11 days) they have five contests and six days off, three of them in a row. Hope the lead instructors will be around. My Bad! After tonight, make that stuck at 81 for five straight contests over seven days. Not enough improvement to even get an 82 at least once? http://www.bknights.org/bknights.org/scores/standings.asp The lines get messed up with a couple of corps, but I couldn't find one other top 12 corps with five straight scores without moving up a point. OK experts, discuss amongst yourselves!

  19. 3-11/4-12 shift stinks! Part-time hours ain't too bad. Back to my real life.
