  1. Moulin Rouge- One Day I'll fly Away "One day i'll fly away, leave all this to yesterday" "When will I begin to live again" "Why Live life from dream to dream, and dread the day that dreaming ends." When I was on tour those quotes reminded me of home and how I wasn't really "living" at the moment, but stuck in a dream called drum corps. "Living Dream to dream" was like day to day on tour cause it didn't really count for anything in the real life. "The day that dreaming ends" would be going home. "Flying away" would be flying home on a plane :)
  2. 20's aren't anywhere near perfect. A 20/20 (in drum corps) means that the corps has been given the maximum number of points. No one is perfect, esp when it comes to marching....or 135 people marching. I'm no scores wh0r3 but i'm betting the 20 was given because of SPREAD from the 2nd place corps in GE Vis. Needless to say...at the time I voted for Cadets...but honesty, the show bores me now. I can't get any "moments" out of it any more, guess thats what happens when u march, heh. It all seems pretty flat and I can't imagine how anyone could see the entertainment value in Cadets 05. But hey, thats just from my point of view. If you like it, good, go watch me on ur dvd some more :)
  3. I really hope some of these responses aren't actually what some of you think....cause wow. This thread went o crap on like pg 4. I guess there can't be a really serious debate on DCP without mocking something. I was really looking forward to some of these responses, o well. The choice applies to everything. Yes Abortion too. The thing that most people can't grasp is that it really DOES take everything into account. When you make certain choices you sacrifice certain liberties (aka narrating in the corps). They way each of us lives our lived can be almost considered blind and monotonous. it is very easy to lose sight of who you are and what you believe in and become one with the borg. The Cadets/GH's philosophy isn't just narration (voice) clogging up you DCI playground nor is it just words to match a show. I'm purposely not going into this alot cause most of the people on here will either flame away or not care. PM if u want a real answer. The OP asked a simple question, why does it have to be answered with mindless banter? Oh...its DCP i forgot, continue. <**>
  4. na, thats right. Guilty until caught. Cause when ur caught ur screwed.
  5. so lets say I rip a stream from a live feed. I know its wrong. But its maad cool as well as useful. Also, how in the hell is DCI gonna track me down? They can barely hold their site up when everyone goes and checks the scores at night. I've said it before, and i'll say it again: Guilty Until Caught What about recording a corps in the lot? That seems to me like it would fall under the DCI Copyright rules or whatever. There's no way they can stop everything, its even hella easy to record video AT A SHOW! Just whip out ur cam, and shoot. No one cares. I'll even go as far as saying DCI doesn't really mind. I buy over $100 of merch with just the finals DVD alone, i think its ok if I let out a lil "arrgghh" every once and a while ^0^ EDIT: If I get a lap dance I most DEF can record that for future use
  6. 2005- Spring training. The first two weeks were mental hell. All I could think about at night was going home to see my friends and family.....i had just completed my first year @ college and hadn't seen hide nor hair of them for a long time. I'd have dreams that I'd go home to see my friends only to have to say good bye to them before I woke up. Even seeing them in my dreams was such a tease. Around the 2 week mark.....during stretched, Faithfully by Journey came on. The thoughts of home wouldn't leave my head. I was torn between two things that I loved. If I was going to continue on with the season I had to leave home behind. As I began to break into tears I was having a massive mental battle with myself. I knew that I had to stay, I had to do this. This was my dream. I cried through the remainder and completion of stretches. When we were done stretching I had come to terms with myself. It was at this moment that I knew that marching The Cadets would take all of the mental and physical strength that I had to give. That day I submitted to the demands of the corps. It was the only way I would make it through the season. all turned out well :)
  7. I really don't get their show. It literally puts me to sleep every time I watch it. There no like.....WOW sections. Mebbe its cause i'm watching it thru a computer screen.....I get the same effect from PR (live) too....that being none. From what I can tell BD's show is really flat and not as high of a demand as other people say. Don't quote me as fact cause i haven't even been able to see it thru in one sitting. I'd prefer Cavies to win over BD cause at least thier show pulls some emotion out of me. I'm still hopin for the best tho.....heh ^0^
  8. G men had a 0.9 pen and would've beat them i know it doesn't matter, just saying
  9. Marching was the hardest thing I've ever done mentally and physically and that will probably hold for the rest of my life. Was it worth it? HECK YES! I am not a drum corps person. Before I marched I was at one DCI and one DCA show. So, needless to say I had never interacted with drum corps people before. They're really interesting.....some are really thick headed, dumb, and make a lot of mistakes or do things wrong....thats not how I would like to act. Then there's the rookies. They're in the same boat as you and have mostly no clue as to which en to blow their horn. Not only did I learn a lot from being a rookie and watching the "super-vets".....pause...I watched them, but not as an example. Most of the stuff they did I did not want to add to my personality, so most of their actions went into the "don't be like this" category instead of the "be like this" category. .....unpause...I watched how they rehearsed and interacted with one another as well as with the staff and rookies. Those lessons are priceless. I also payed good attention to the rookies during my 2nd year. I remember that I was once in their shoes and how crappy the vets were @ times. I tried to be more like a rookie friend and help them along rather than a "vet" and just tell them to figure it out. Through those experiences I learned a lot about how to work with people. Through the course of the summer I learned a great deal about time management and prioritizing. Knowing was MUST be done and what CAN be done is totally awesome and has payed off in my life. So all in all, a great experience. I truly learned that I can do anything if I can put my mind to it....better yet...i learned HOW to do it and sometimes learning how NOT to act is just as valuable as learning how to act.
  10. Because no other performing groups produce sounds that LOUD! b**bs
  11. pick a response A) HAHAHAHA B)that could be photo shopped----how is that possible, the next step he'd be on the floor
  12. I don't have much knowledge on this topic, but I'm gonna try. Back in the days of old people marched for upards of 10-11 years! THATS NUTS! People these days are lucky to get 2-3 years in. The call for it just isn't there any more. Back in "the day", the corps taught you how to play an march. Now there's no way you can make one without knowing how to @ least play your horn better than a few hundred people. A) Less marching years per member B)Talent level increased Then there's the ever increasing push forward to try new things. There's only so much you can do with symmetrical drill. Same goes for drumlines that only more fwrd and backwards and color guard that do nothing but "guard the colors". All of these things have all been transformed into asymmetric and totally nuts awesome drill, drum lines that do stick tricks on picnic tables (sorry), and guard that dance. G bugles went to Bflat horns cause of the teaching/educational aspect of it. The addition of amps and electroics also have the show creators another tool that they could use for cool effects such as rain sticks or dropping a chain on the tail door of a pickup truck. C)The push forward So you ask whats next.....well.....where do you get your kids from......BAND! Drum corps is no longer a stand along activity. It is now "marching music's major league". Whats the minor league? Marching band. After all, the two are of the same other than the lack of the wood winds. Each feeds off one another for trying new ideas and finding those that work on the field. Some drum corps copy HS bands and vice versa. Band is where your kids learn to march and play. Some can even be said to be better than certain drum corps out there. D)The band kids are the members Drum corps separates itself from being too bando with its regimented styles and extensive history. Do I think it will ever become band? No, thats what marching band is for. Why have another band circuit? Kids in Drum corps don't want to march band again, they want corps. If woodwinds are allowed in DCI the circuit will die due to lack of members and I feel that DCA will become the large drum corps circuit. We've already done band, I don't want to do it again. Bando or not, its now called drum corps. As far as i'm concerned it can get as bando as it wants as long as its not band.
  13. I thought there was a rule passed that allowed an "adult" to work the mixer during the show. This was to get sound balance or cut power in case of an emergency. Did this happen? Also, on the horns being accidentally amped....you'd totally be able to tell if it came thru a member's voice mic; balance would be way off and it would sound like grandma's you know what. Plus, how well does a brass inst sound when the mic is @ the mouthpiece?
  14. you forgot to mention that they are marching and playing at the same time half as much as everyone else :devin:
  15. A girl in HS sent me this before tour last year: I was floating around at suppertime at the campo last week and \"a Cadet\" calls out and says hey, your the girl who sat at the stadium for hours. that was really cool!\" her name is Larissa she is in trumpet line with you and well it meant alot to m;e that someone remembered me so if ya ever get the chance tell her it meant alot to me.
  16. What are you talking about? I'm too young to have experienced the 90's DCP era :P
  17. I can see where the OP is coming from, but he def had too much coffee this morning and blew most everything he was trying to say up. I have no beef with academy, I have never seen them. I have my opinions on Div II moving up to Div I and not doing a full tour, but thats between me and some other people. Where are they even from any way? wth do their unis look like? What's their show? I'll form opinions when they're on the map.
  18. No matter what, a marching member MUST at all time represent their corps to the best of their ability. If they screw up, oh well. They could get disciplined, they could not. If someone hears a negative conversation they can do whatever they want with that information. You may like it, you may not like it; thats life
