  1. Everything starts with staff. management, & design. I do believe that these 3 areas were mostly responsible for the Scouts placement in recent years moreso that the members themselves.
  2. I'm guessing Jim Casella takes over the Scouts Percussion program.
  3. Who in the world is that in the yellow???
  4. I always had a better "feel" playing traditional grip. Jazz & swing on a drum set felt better with traditional grip too.
  5. 1. Shows & music that catered to the average person, not music majors. 2. Snare drums that sounded like drums. 3. Discipline. The crap that takes place on the field during retreat now gives me the willys. 4. Corps with local membership. Kids that went to grade school & high school together. 5. Each drum corps used to have there own identity. A corps was either spanish, jazz, broadway, Pop, scottish, british, or classical. You could recognise a corps in the distance by listening to them. I cant tell one from the other now.
  6. I like the Blue Stars, but I sure wish that Madison had hired Aungst.
  7. Madison Scouts Alumni Corps 2006 "The Way We Were" with the Fleur De Lis formation.
  8. I have the 1981 Madison Scouts Drum tapes from DCI Midwest in Whitewater. We won this show. This is the performance that is on the 1981 DCI DVD.
  9. You want the guard in aprons in chief hats??? Really??? Wow... The Scouts beed to forget overthinking a show concept & spend time hiring the right people & picking good music.
  10. You sound like a Politician with this answer. "We deeply regret what happened...if indeed anything did happen". What? Either tell us what you know & stop tap dancing or dont say anything at all.
  11. I am a Madison Alumni...& if either the uniform stealing or flipping the bird at other Drum Corps really happened, then the Scouts are worse off than I thought. And I'm not sure that I will provide any future support to the Corps. I was disapointed that Madison missed finals, but this situation makes me sad & angry. Angry with the current leadership of the Scouts. Have the Scouts lost the meaning & history of what it means to be a Madison Scout? Behaviour like this, if it happened, is a result of poor leadership. This would NEVER EVER have happened when I marched. We took pride in ourselves & in being a first class organization. We never ever made fun of another corps, let alone stole their stuff. Madison was never a corps that tolerated punks or bad behaviour. Anyone who was out of line would suffer the wrath of not only the staff, but worse, the other members. The Scouts were a very very disciplined organization. And I dont care what the Crossmen might have done to provoke the Scouts, stealing their stuff & flipping them the bird is unnacceptable. It's bush league. I remember the Bridgemen throwing rocks at the buses of another Corps that I marched in prior to Madison. Our response was to outclass them...and we beat them numerous times following the incident. Once again, if these charges are true, & it certainly sounds legit, It is truly a sad time for the Drum & Bugle Corps activity & the Madison Scouts. I really can't believe that no one from this years Scouts have had anything to say about this matter. I have a really bad feeling in my gut right now about both the current & future status of the Madison Scouts.
  12. The Scouts website is embarassing. It is horrible. Heck, the Scouts dont even have a current photo of the 2009 uni on the home page.
  13. I think I heard earlier this year that there were less than 10 members in the Scouts this year from the Madison area. If this is correct, this saddens me, Scouts ere a corps that had a high percentage of local members when I marched. I would suggest they spend more time recruiting local kids who are able to attend every practice, rather than out of towners who are hit & miss. Do the Scouts have the same problem with out of town instructors? Doesn't the Executive Director live in Ohio?
  14. Whatever happened to Spanos being the ED of the Scouts? Why was he only in the position for one year?
  15. 2 years ago the Scouts gave us a show based on an Iguana. This years show was based on a cartoonish charachter, Relampago. Whats next? I'm afraid to find out. I know that Ramiro Barera has had success with the Blue Devils, but please...no more Scouts shows from him...ever. I hope Madison can right the ship & get back on their feet.
  16. So where do the Scouts go from here? They're going to miss finals again, probably placing 15th. The Corps is going backwards. A Corps like Madison, who is one of the most storied Corps in the history of the activity, can only survivie so many missed finals. Madison needs to do what BD did this year...return to its roots. Design a show that is full of melody & tradition. No more original music, which does nothing than stroke the ego of the composer. I predict another uniform change and many staff changes.
