  1. Exactly!!! It goes with their 'theme'. I thought it was hokey when I saw it, but then I thought of the theme of their show and....
  2. Sam will just have to march CNY with us next year, right Lee?!?!?! Thanks for getting those scanned in Lee. I've been busy and haven't had time to scan them!
  3. Thank you for putting up some old school moves! I still get chills when I picture the BD gates. It was fun to march! I have pics of SCV prelims in 1975 doing the bottle dance. I loved it!! And of course the Troopers Starburst and the rifle toss around the drum major!!!
  4. I'm pretty sure there is a picture in the 77 year book. I'll look, probably tomorrow, and scan it in for you.
  5. Yes, it is hard work, but fun! We had a blast helping out in Denver We're looking forward to helping in Ohio and Indiana! Oh, and I love the new closer!! The V and the Viper are back!!!!
  6. I watched them learn the new closer yesterday and when they ran it last night, full out, it was awesome. The crowd will be on their feet at the end of this show!!! Like nemesiscorps said, it is dangerous and high speed! And yes, some major dents in a tuba. But, I loved it and can't wait to see it on the field in uniform. The yell is in and the cymbal V will be there along with the Viper!!!
  7. My husband and I talk about this all the time. Being an 'older' parent to a middle schooler, I am outraged by how coddled kids are these days. Since my divorce, my daughter has begun to realize how spoiled she is by her father, aunt and grandmother. She is a smart girl and listens when Mike and I talk about how kids are handled with kid gloves and rarely allowed to fail at anything. So many people are afraid that they will damage their 'self-esteem' thatt don't realize how entitled these kids think they are. They expect everything to be handed to them without having to work or it. What an eye opener it will be when they are released into the real world and have to fend for themselves!! Fortunately, the corps practices I have seen are not like what was described above. We talked to the winter guard we teach about how drum corps practice is. Since they loved SCV's winter guard last year, we use them as an example. I'm encouraging them to check out SCV this weekend, when they're in town, to see how they practice. My daughter will be there as we will be cooking for them this weekend, so she'll get to see how a real drum corps practices. She is just learning to spin flag, so this will be an eye opener for her.
  8. I saw the opener over Memorial Day and loved it!!! I can't wait to see the whole show when they get to Denver! Laura - have fun and we'll see you on Miss Amana in Denver!!!
  9. How about Colorado??? Glenwood Springs was always an awesome show!!!
  10. Actually, this is 1974 as those are the flags we used and I recognize some of thos soprano players... I believe that is during the slow march in Berlioz.
  11. My first year, my dad and little sister went to our shows in SoCal, since they were local. The next year, my mom and little sister surprised my in Boston (of all places since they lived in SoCal). They took a Greyhound bus, spent the night in the gym with us then went on touring the east coast. Just local shows in 76, plus my sis had joined the corps. My dad, aunt & uncle, 2 older sisters and their families all drove to Denver for DCI in 77 and my mom went on tour with us. It was a great age our year for me!!!
  12. Gary Gilroy is the band director at Fresno State. My niece just graduated from there and her mother (my sister) had marched in BD with Gary.
  13. Yes, it's 74 and it is Bill Johnson on chimes.
  14. Like Jim said, it's so easy to come back to. I marched, aged out, taught, went to college, moved to another state and got asked to teach again, quit when my now ex-spouse complained about it, went to shows every now and then, took my daughter to see Blast! and Drums Along the Rockies (and she loved it), was invited to march in KAC, did it and now I'm back teaching color guard again!!! I met my present husband in KAC and we now teach a color guard together with another couple. I couldn't be happier with my husband and what we're doing I never understood how people could quit marching before they aged out I started marching in a youth band. We had some guys from the Kingsmen that were hired to teach the drum line and color guard. They encouraged my move to drum corps and that was it...I was hooked...for life. I wish there was a senior corps around here worth marching with but since there isn't, I love volunteering my time to teach a local guard! I look forward to the day that my daughter marches in drum corps and hope I'll be able to help out on tour! My husband and I also volunteer cooking for SCV when they're here in town and will also be in Indiana to help out!
  15. The food did seem a lot better when I was in drum corps, but going there a few years back, it's a lot like Taco Bell food, but the Sopapillas are still awesome! It's entertaining and big. Do they still take corps there when they're in Denver???
  16. My signature line says it all. I am back in the game teaching an Independent Winter Guard. If there were a senior corps worth marching with in our area, I'd do it... We may have to move to a city with a rockin' senior corps after my daughter graduates from high school in 6 years!!! At least there's CNY parade with the Renegades!
  17. From the website: DISTRIBUTION WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING DISTRIBUTION So, I guess they're trying to find arenas that would show it...
  18. What about the Freelancers? ...and you thought you would get a quick answer to your question????
  19. I was just thinking the same thing!!! Jinks Hey, John, can we crash at your place???
  20. Here's a pic of the guy marching with chimes in 74 Kingsmen:
  21. You are so right my love... My ex never got it either and never will even though our daughter wants to march in Winter Guard and he won't let her!!! So, don't make the mistake of marrying a non-drum corps person unless they get involved. My sister is still married to a man who was non-drum corps until she found out she was pregnant between tours. He went on 2nd tour in 1974, they got married in November and are still together!
