  2. Here's the link. Only 13 equipment judges and 12 movement judges. Considering the number of performances judged each weekend that's not very many judges downstairs.

  9. What nonsense. Why does a 12 tone scale "make sense"? People frequently trot out the "doesn't make sense" argument because they want you to ignore all history, context, and rational thought and adopt their radically different point of view. Shoes with laces?!? Ridiculous. We have velcro and elastic now. Why would anyone use shoelaces????? Why would sponsors have trouble with rifles if they understood the activity. THEY WOULDNT! But the strategy is thus : 1. fabricate outrage 2. be incredulous when others dont feel your outrage 3. ridicule history and tradition as meaningless 4. label anyone who's ignoring your issue as "completely out of touch" The strategy plays on the fundamental "need to belong" we all have. We don't want to feel "out of step" or outside the group. Tradition and history are the fundamental fabric of civilization. While we cant be hopelessly bound to them neither should we cast them aside lightly. 1 All guns are evil. 2 A piece of guard equipment descends from a gun 3 MUST REMOVE EVIL !! Can't believe a moderator starred this thread. It's ridiculous. ---- mike
  10. Just back to the hotel after dinner. While I can see the gap between Cadets and Crown visually, musically no one played as well as Crown tonight. Not sure what the upstairs music guys were listening to but it clearly wasnt the music coming from the field. People who have raved on DCP about Crowns musicality, control and quality of tone are telling the truth. They're that good! Was really worried to see Madison after all the talk here -- no worries there. The show is dirty but it will come along. 2nd time seeing the Cadets was way better than the first. Vocals didnt irritate nearly as much, I wanna see Vanguard again (but wont :( ) I think its a show you need to see more than once to really like. Phantom = Phun! Show is gonna need more visual meat to keep hanging in the top. CG shoulda been 2nd tonight - they were a lot cleaner in a week since Westminster. Boston - in your face drum corps. Not a lot of dynamics from the hornline. I know loud is good but it get a little boring after a while. BTW Pacific Crest totally deserved 7th tonight. Their show is a few tweaks short of being really entertaining. Finally it was really weird to see so much dirt at East. Had to keep telling myself it's early July not early August. ---- mike
  11. LOL!! See what happens when you get a real life and stop being a regular on DCP (and RAM*) ! No one knows Nikk anymore!!
  12. Videos were awesome, Dash. I had no idea that was the Dash Fieldpaint running around with video camera during the FMC warmups. We (the LC visual staff) always try to catch you guys over in the park. Sorry to see you're not making the trip the up to Lancaster this year.
  13. For those who think in pictures.... Map of WGI 2008 Colorguard Regionals mike
  14. Your photo-interpretation skills serve you well! Sitao uses 36" rifles (and 36" Kings as well). mike simaska sitao wg
  15. I heard something about that at the show. Glad to hear everyone is ok.
  16. Please share your RI stories here!! I drove a van full of staff and members from Lancaster, PA to Kingston in the great sleet storm of 2007! It should have takes about 6 1/2 hrs to get there; it took us 14 hrs. I95 was a skating rink, PA Turnpike a parking lot, Conneticut was a bobsled run. I don't think I saw a snowflake the entire trip -- it was sleet and freezing rain the entire way. RI was the only state in which we saw plowing on I95. OTOH we had a great time at the Regional! mike simaska sitao wg
  17. (from wgi...) The Color Guard Steering Committee has rescinded a previously posted rules clarification regarding the "legal" status of "Sickle Rifles" for the 2007 season. This definition will be discussed this May at the Color Guard Advisory Board Meeting and a decision will be made then which will be effective for the 2008 season. For the 2007 season the use of this piece of equipment will be allowed.
  18. Anyone care to explain the rationale behind that ruling? I guess I'm just plain dumb 'cause I don't get why so "rifle-like" a piece of equipment is excluded from equipment time. Seems out-of-kilter with rest of WGI's "on the bleeding edge" attitude about other aspects of the activity. ---- mike
  19. When DCP is really busy, using the lo-fi version alway works for me.
  20. Don't know if anyone posted a reminder here or not but... live chat in AOL Chat room "drumcorps" ---- mike
  21. <warning> only saw show via SP</warning> Scouts cannot expect to be taken seriously until they clean the 1st 45secs of drill. If you're gonna make that first impression (look at the really hard drill we can almost sort of do) your score will never recover. ---- mike
