  1. I guess if we were to compare it to Bluecoats last season, there is a little more sound samples than narration in the Bluecoats last season. It isn't necessary. And didn't they announce that they were going to use silence as a theme in the show? Why are they filling the silence with sound samples?
  2. I was at the rehearsal as well, and I wouldn't exactly call it subtle. There was also a brass phrase that was cut from the show to allow a police siren. This really disappointed me. There wasn't any need for these low-quality voice overs. They don't really add very much to the show, and in some places cover up the hornline. I really was hoping the show would stay how I saw it Thursday at Toledo. This is an amazing show, and does not need any help from voice overs.
  3. I can't stand James Swearingen. Just getting that out there....
  4. Good to hear everyone is okay. Hopefully everyone will be back out on the road soon.
  5. I had a pretty good time last night. I really enjoy early season shows. Cap Reg - This is a great returning year show. They look (and sound) decent in terms of size. The hornline sounds very nice and confident. Guard did a nice job, despite their small size. I liked the storm effects at the beginning, but after awhile, I think they are a bit too much. They distracted me from the show and weren't really necessary to help with the show. This corps will do very well at Open Class championships. Crossmen - I guess I'll start out saying I'm not exactly a fan of the uniforms. I really miss the red. They capes don't help much visually either. Onto the show. The very beginning is pretty interesting, the field entrance was pretty neat. Musically, X-men sounded pretty decent, I like the show music. Visually speaking, there is a lot to clean up. A lot of drill sets was pretty difficult to read (I don't think the capes do any to help either). But I understand it's early, and this was X-men's first show. This show has a lot of potential, and with some cleaning, maybe a shot at Saturday night. Colts - I thought the sound effects were too much in this show as well. Ocean sounds fill the show, and I don't think all of them are necessary or last too long. Drill-wise, the Colts were definitely a step-up from Crossmen. They looked pretty clean and had some good drill writing. The music is very well written, I really enjoyed it. The hornline and percussion had a good show, I thought they performed musically very well. Great show, let's see where it finishes. Boston Crusaders - Wednesday, Boston basically rehearsed in my back yard. So of course, I spent most of the day at their rehearsal. Everything they rehearsed Wednesday came out perfectly tonight. They really laid down a good show last night. The opening Indian/Middle East was pretty neat, and the guard did a good job fitting in. The horns and drums were both pretty clean last night, and I love the hornline and battery books. Drill was fairly clean, and interesting. This is the best corps I've seen from BAC in a long time. They really have a lot of potential this year, this is a top 8 show. Holy Name Cadets - I really think this is the championship show this year. I had a smile on my face through most of the show. There is GE EVERYWHERE. The fans (including me), ate this show up. This is an incredible visual package. There is some great drill moments. They were very clean, especially for this early in the season. I was surprised with how well they was performed, with this much difficulty in the show. The ending was breath-taking. There are firework drill moves for the last two minutes of the show. Not to mention, this corps can really put out some sound, making it that more exciting. I can't wait to see this show in August. This is a GREAT corps, with plenty of talent. I think this is a Cadets year. The Cavaliers - A lot of people speculated about a new sound from the Cavies, without Saucedo. It's the same old Cavaliers. To me, this show music isn't all that interesting. There are some cool moments, but most of the show just doesn't draw me in. Having said that, the hornline is talented this year, they had a good show last night. Battery really laid it down last night. Typical Gaines drill, that was pretty darn clean. The guard had a good night, and really was important throughout the show. This show isn't at the demand of the Cadets, but some re-writes could change that quickly. I think this is your average Cavies show. If you are a fan of the Cavaliers, you will probably enjoy it. The Green-machine will do very well Finals night. The Glassmen - This is a pretty neat show. There is some demand in the hornline, and they weren't the cleanest last night, but it will be fixed soon enough. They do a nice job of keeping the "One" theme through out the show. Lots of soloist or featured sections. Drumline has a very good book, and had a great performance last night. The music grooves at points, and the crowd loves it. Some of the more demanding drill moves were dirty, but again, it isn't even July yet. I thought the three point gap between G-men and Boston was fair. But the Glassmen have the potential to catch up quickly, this should be an interesting match up this year. I really had a great time last night, and am looking forward to a great season. Thanks for reading.
  6. Thanks for the Review. Our opinions were generally the same. I'll have my review up tomorrow.
  7. I hadn't had a chance to look at Recaps until now. X-men weren't near the level of Colts or Glassmen visually, don't really understand that caption. Cavies over Cadets in percussion is fair, however I don't think they were half a point better over all musically. Cadets definitely have more demand in there show, musically and visually speaking. Boston was hot tonight, I can see why the judges put them 3 points ahead of Glassmen. Expect a full review from me tomorrow.
  8. Visually, the Crossmen didn't show up tonight. Dirt through out the show. Most sets were pretty hard to read, and I don't think the capes on the uniforms helped any.
  9. I'll be at the show tonight. Expect a review late tonight or tomorrow. I'm really excited to see how X-men come out. I was at Boston's rehearsal all day yesterday and see them make some progress. How close will Glassmen stay to them?
  10. 1 Santa Clara Vanguard 76.300 2 Bluecoats 74.600 3 Blue Knights 71.900 4 The Academy 67.700 5 Troopers 66.900 1 Incognito 54.000

  12. Bummer. Was really looking forward to his coverage.
  13. I haven't. Is it that much less demanding?
  14. Really? SCV always has pretty demanding drill. Did Bluecoats really step it up that much?
  15. Pretty random guesses for the numbers. However, I think this how placements will go. Vanguard - 74.8 'Coats - 74.5 (Perhaps closer to SCV) BK - 71.6 Academy - 69.7 Troop - 64.4
  16. I'm pretty sure they had said the 5th of July. Don't quote me on that though.
  17. You must not remember the quality of the on-demand videos and webcasts last season. By July, DCI had all the kinks worked out. As for "camera shots of nothing". It was the second show of the season. No one knows what to follow yet. Do you think you could have done a better job working the camera with no knowledge about any of the shows?
  18. It seems like half the posts in this thread are arguing over a "sense of humor". This thread was created for a laugh, if you don't find one in it, you don't need to keep looking in it.
  19. Hadn't read that article. SCV at Wayne Memorial? Interesting. I'm going to try to make it to that rehearsal.
  20. I'll be seeing Boston on Thursday, for sure. Most likely heading to Ypsilanti one day as well. Anyone else planning to stop at a rehearsal?
  21. Being the first webcast of the season, and being offered for free, did you expect much more? I'm not really concerned. Last years early webcasts had plenty of problems as well. But by the end of the season, DCI was putting out a good product. They have plenty of time this year to fix any issues that occurred Saturday.
  22. I'd be expecting scores in anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. I'm kind of anxious to see if BD will keep two points on Vanguard, and if Mandarins will stay ahead of PC. We'll see...
  23. After seeing some Rehearsal video from the Cadets, I think they'll come out very strong tonight. Not sure if Crown will be able to hang with them.
  24. I have way too many to put down but a few just jump out to me. '91 Star - Cross to cross. Just amazing. '93 Phantom - Opening couple of minutes. '08 Phantom - "Spartacus" until they end. '00 BD - Ending.
  25. I'm pretty sure it would've stayed the same. Being there at Finals, feeling and hearing the roar of the crowd before, during, and after the show was incredible. Video and Audio don't do the crowd reaction justice. Winning only made it that much sweeter.
