  1. Does it matter? A good drill is still a good drill in the end......a bad one....well.....
  2. I totally disagree with the original post. Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion have enhanced the Drum Corps activity in a great way. Color Guard now truly is a full part of Drum Corps. It was not up until the mid nineties. Visualization of the music has become more important, but that was the intention of drum corps in the first place. Otherwise it would be concert band. The fact that Percussion & Color Guard kids get a chance to broaden their horizons in the winter and come out trained means it contributes to Drum Corps. Many designers do both. Name me one Color Guard designer of the past 20 years that was successful in Drum Corps and did not do Winter Guard ever. They don't exist. Also Visual judges get more exposure because of it.....good training. I only see benefits!
  3. So Pioneer has a new look as of yesterday......maybe......if you have time....... ;-)
  4. Cannot wait to see the corps come out in the new outfit + changes in the show. They are really on a roll this year....see you in Atlanta!
  5. When is the new uni going to be showed?
  6. 1989 Madison......Make his Praise Glorious played by Pioneer and Slaugther on 10th Ave again by Madison.......hmmm......Wisconsin rocks.....
  7. This is very exciting. I am so happy with these choices. It takes away some criticism as some people felt Pioneer should move away from the Irish theme. They didn't have to for me, but it already feels like a nice change. Make his Praise Glorious and Amazing Grace in one show.....sounds like a fan favorite to me already. Bring it on Pioneer !!!!
  8. All 22 of those finished last a couple of years in a row....wow......I must have followed a different activity the last 23 years!
  9. Pioneer moved Div I in 1997 and was 19th, 1998: 18th (0.3 I believe from Semi's). In 1999 and 2000 in semis (17th, 16th) 2001 was a 0.05 miss in 18th After that they were last 2002 - 2008, but not in 2005. So yes 6 out of 12 Division I/World years. And they are still here alive and kicking.....how many corps can say that..... CONGRATS PIONEER !
  10. Can only speak for when and where I marched....but trust me ;-)
  11. At Pioneer busses were mixed so it didn't matter. We usually had a Vet Bus (1997 name: "Clothing Optional"), a rookie bus (1997 name: "The Happy Bus") and a somewhat mixed bus (1997: "The Ghetto Bus"). DM's usually sat wherever they wanted.....
  12. Both Holst & Grainer have been played by Pioneer....recently
  13. Could be....but the fact that Pioneer had 10 year vets in the corps when I marched should say something.
  14. Not entirely true. They did some British composers, Oliver and other stuff. Pioneer is a merger corps. The Mercury Thunderbolts and St. Patrick Imperials merged to become Pioneer (after being called 'The Thing' for one year). Pioneer was long known as the Great Entertainer playing jazzy style music. In the 1990's they returned to the Irish roots of the St. Pat's Imperials. So there is a strong corps tradition. For many alumni and current marchers taking away the Irish would be like taking the 'Fleur-de-Lis' from Madison, the classics out of Phantom or the Jazz out of Blue Devils. Yet, nobody complains about those. Why? Because they bring a World Class show every year. I guess that is the difference. Not that I agree that Pioneer could not try something new. I myself have always suggested The Cranberries, U2 or the Simple Minds. So yes, there could be some more variation....I agree. But as long as kids join Pioneer, and the organization sticks to their values of education and a quality experience......I don't really see an issue. I was a Pioneer member, am a proud alumnus and will support the corps just for their values alone. All the other things really do not matter to me. Pioneer gave thousands of kids an opportunity. I myself was one of those clueless kids being cared for and valued, for what I was then. I owe much in life to the lessons learned there. That is what matters. Irish or not.....I could care less. The programs are enjoyable. Do I think there are many corps better? Yes, I am not blind.....but I simply do not care. "Better Every Day" goes a lot further than scores to a Pioneer.
  15. Even if Pio ends last....one change from recent years.....they are competitive at the bottom. That's an improvement over last years and that counts. GO PIONEER!
  16. Pioneer played non-Irish for 2 years this millennium......and were last. It's not about the Irish, it might be more about choices.....and those are all very valid
  17. So proud right now.....so proud.......how many corps are in last place in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 (just one I gues...hahahha) and stay in and recover slowly. This just makes me happy. Even if it does not mean anything....
  18. Best to all in the Glassmen. If you are in the neighbourhood.....contact them and help them!

  20. Color Guard Netherlands (CGN) is now planning for the 2010 WGI European Regional. The regional will be for Color Guard & Indoor Percussion. Date & location (in the Netherlands) are still tentative. But we will update you soon. First we will have to have the official green light from WGI. They are working out their schedule and after that we will know for sure. I just wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of the existence of the event. Interest from the USA & Canada is already known and it will be a great cultural experience for your group. If you are interested and want us to keep you posted.....simply e-mail me at pj.dewerk@colorguard.org and I will put you on our mailinglist. VERY affordable housingrates and rehearsalspace is available if we know you are coming.....the sooner you mail.....the better the rates !
  21. That changed and that is good. It's a weird rule. Why would you host a WORLD championship and then deny any other country to place in finals or win? WGI Championships should also be outside of the US sometimes in my opinion....
