How about during the big push at the end to drown out the noise coming out of the synthesizer?

Because it's Drum and Bugle Corps?(read drum and brass) -
I have to agree that show is up there with the best of them. If the crowd reaction determined the winner, you could call it a three way tie and give them a share of the title.

Synthesizers in drum corps
AnaheimAlumni replied to camel lips's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
IMO, G is better and Bb is fine. But that's not the issue here, it's synthesizers and amplification. I get tired of the "Dead Horse of Bb" being brought up in almost every electronics discussion by the "anything goes crowd". -
1972 Anaheim Kingsmen. I guess you had to be there.

Once again someone makes the argument that it is the "change", and it's not. It is the change to something that is not drums and bugles, et al. And yes, in the context of drum and bugle corps, they are lower than Tubas, et al. But in the context of a rock and roll band, they are king and brass instruments are typically a side kick.
-
This is just what happened in the beginning with amps. They were only intended to be used for amping the pit instruments, and then came the vocals. The electronics were only supposed to be keyboards but now we have guitars. Once again drum corps has been duped by the bandos. I only saw SVC last night. The sight of an electronic keyboard(and amps) on the field with drums and bugle is unsettling. They use theirs subtly. But as posted by others, it's really noticeable in the final push, is a distraction and ruins the effect of the horns blowing their @ss*s off.

Will G bugles eventually become extinct?

A good point that is overlooked by the Bb bandos in these discussions. -

To reinforce what you said, only that I would like to see Drum and Bugle Corps last forever. DCI can take a long leap...................... -

I noticed they only had 10 Contras in the pictures from last week and thought they would use the "anti-christ' to cover the low brass. My thinks me thoughts are right? -

Don't forget, "It's only to amplify the pit instruments". Remember that one? -
Somehow you thought I was disagreeing with you? Maybe I needed to be more specific and say that it's not Drum and Bugle Corps anymore. My point was that Drum and Bugle Corps fans(purists if you will) accepted Bb/anykey, but are walking away from electronics. I have and many others will simply because it's not acoustic anymore.
-
Just an opinion from a purist. I think your comments are good except that the Bb and props are not part of the same argument. Like it or not, the thing that has really changed drum corps is the electronics.(in any form) Yes people didn't like Bb because they thought it would lead to what is happening now. And they(we) were right. But at the same time, the argument for Bb was justified in that it attracted more and better brass players to march drum corps and didn't change the sound from acoustic to artificial.
