Correct, but back when it was in place shows were a lot cleaner than they are now (at least at the top). I also admit that the shows today attempt way more than back in the tick era. Today's shows would score poorly under the tick system, yesterday's shows would fare poorly under today's. But I do recall some quote to the effect that 'Clean execution leads to high GE scores' And I think that is at the gist of the gripe - by August fans deserve performers in step, at proper interval, and dressed forms.

IIRC 27 and Guardsmen used Seahawk as opener in early 80s. It is a good 3 minute song, but I am not sure you could stretch it into a whole show. Hoewver, using it as an opener, w/ Naval Hymn ballad and something else nautically inspired as closed could work

Maybe this should be in the historical section, but I was wondering - 30 years ago (1976) the Bridgemen had just completed their first season w/ the yellow trenchcoats, etc. Today, they are held in high esteem for being innovative and entertaining. As I recall, at the time their approach was quite controversial. So - look at the reaction the Cadets are getting this year - same thing? Someone flag this so it pops back up after DCI finals in 2036...
