  1. Would provide counterpoint to the Red Queen and White Rabbit. :P
  2. Rumor question: I have heard that the xylo player in 75 had either a bum knee, or an artificial leg, or something in between. True (& to what degree)?
  3. I wonder how many of today's 'pits' could mark time while playing? While being judged on mark-time technique.
  4. Instead of Phantom using "Carmina" for a show, what TPTB should do is an arrangement of it for retreats (when they occur) instead of whatever the 'simple gifts' thing is that replaced AOC.
  5. Time to dig out the old photo albums... What about DCI corps that are long defunct (say, like North Star)? Don't copyrights expire (at least in some way) after 17 years (or is that patents)? At some point it becomes public domain, doesn't it (except Carmina Burana)? Drumlaw80 - this is a question up your professional alley, can you provide us some pro bono advise?
  6. What about corps that never marched DCI (like a lot of the old DCM corps?)
  7. Thinking about it, two of the last four DCI shows I have attended were washed out into stand-stills, and neither were as wet as DCA prelims apparently were. Won't it be ironic if next year in Cali gets washed out (You heard it here first. Yes I am off topic. I will shut up now).
  8. How about someplace west of Pennsylvania? California, anyone? Skyliner's (Garbarina) went to AL in Los Angeles in 1950; & it was a lot harder (& I bet more expensive in standardized $$) back then to travel. I'm sure there were other examples. Renegades suck it up and come east, sometimes > once/season, & I know aircraft fly both directions. Racine is good too, how about St Paul? Dallas?
  9. IIRC - Nimrod was one of Noah's Grandsons and reportedly a might hunter
  10. Ok - this could be interesting Opener - New World Symphony Ballad - ? Drum Solo - Flight of Bumble Bee (updated to 2007 style) Closer -Elsa'a <OR> Whole show of Beethoven's 9th Symphony
  11. Didn't they also take a penelty at VFW in late 60's when they tried to use a marching xylophone?
  12. According to my online dictionary it appears completely cromulent
  13. Be in the absolute best physical shape possible. Have a good attitude - no prima donnas! Practice. Get the audition material and learn it. Be willing to accept the third triangle part if that is what is offered. Practice some more. Find out what technique books/materials the staff at your chosen corps likes to use. If you are cut, consider Div 2/3 for a year. I only was able to march Div 3 (class A back then), but I had a great time, and the stories you read on DCP happening in top Div 1 corps are the same stuff we went through. Practice.
  14. Not mentioned yet - 79 SCV - Verdi's Requiem _ as Mike Boo said in the Legacy notes - "Brutal"
  15. I would be happy w/ 5-5-2-0, but that is just me. Thank goodness for the Legacy DVDs. Just for fun, how about 82 SCV and 89 BD
  16. 1979 North Star (Children of Sanchez, Ole, and Beach Boys medley, et al) 1979 Troopers (Sorry Malibu) and if there is room 1979 Phantom (Elsa's!) 1979 & 1980 were real good years that was the high point of the activity until 82/83 when Zingali started writing for Garfield. IMHO.
  17. I'll try real hard not to be a smarta** I also wonder what the musical program would sound like if Jim Ott were still around...
