  1. Thanks, Tekk! These quieter off-seasons have put a bit of a damper on my DCP posting. Thinking things will pick up again once the season gets under way.
  2. I'm not overly thrilled with the concept. The drum-corps-as-social-commentary trope is rarely ever done well, and has been particularly groan-worthy when attempted by past Cadet designers. But... that was a different crew. We'll see how the new blood handles it this time. I can't help but feel this is the continuation of some sort of apology-tour concept, though and I really want this new iteration of the Cadets to start zagging and shaking up the activity again. All that being said, the hornline sounds really solid and I like that much of the rep seems to be stuff that's fresh to the activity. I will be cheering for them via my living room Flo!
  3. Any idea when these tickets generally go on sale?
  4. If SCV's design team decides to follow up Babylon with a rehash of POTO, they should be drummed out of the activity. I'm not even joking.
  5. Yeah. The other consideration is the fact that it's a natural turf field which means no tarps allowed. Not the end of the world usually, but missed out on a decent amount of effect from Regiment, Cavies, and Boston (especially) last year.
  6. It's a decent lineup, but not as strong as previous years. I've been trying to make Chester my new annual show in place of Allentown, but it's hard to justify it with the lineup as is. I want to see as many corps live as possible. As of right now, six isn't cutting it - regardless of where they placed last year.
  7. Apologies if this has already been brought up or discussed elsewhere, but DCI's lineup for the Chester TOC show next summer includes just six corps: SCV, BAC, Cadets, Cavies, Crossmen, and Jersey Surf. Any ides if this lineup will be added to, or are most corps schedules set for next summer?
  8. That's what I came on here looking to see if any had received theirs yet. It's been awhile since I've ordered anything from DCI, so I can't remember if they send out shipping confirmations or not. Hoping it'll just show up in my mailbox tonight.
  9. I don't know that designers are trying to convey anything. It's simply added visual vocabulary. They're not necessarily trying to convey anything with strict marching. The body stuff is just a different way for corps to switch up their visual repertoire.
  10. I've re-read this OP several times. (Not dozens or hundreds of times, because I have a life and try to limit my daily stupid-hot-take consumption which Twitter eats up most of anyway.) The first criterion of a stupid-hot-take is that, even on multiple readings, it remains as stupid as it was on its first. A Juilliard degree holder (bolded, underlined, and italicized because it's important) who's unable to find a melody or grounded tempo in SCV's show is either lying for the sake of making a stupid-hot-take, or needs to get their money back from Juilliard. This OP left me dumbfounded and amused. After reading it the first time, I thought "Okay, he's obviously coming down off a really bad bender," so I gave it a few days and came back to read it again. And in a testament to the absolute inanity of the text, the stupid-hot-takeness remained. The OP was, plain and simple, an epically bad attempt at using a psychological phenomenon and their prestigious music degree to justify a line of thinking that no rational person would otherwise even attempt to argue. I will now type "Lekeu's Violin Sonata in G" because I Googled obscure classical music and it came up.
  11. I like where your head's at. Think we're still too close to 2016's Pines of Rome to pull that off. What else ya' got? (Make it nuts. We need to crack 50 pages by September.)
  12. I'm sure you think you could get out there and fill any one of those spots. The rest of us will be here with the defibrillator.
  13. @2000Cadet, the 2018 season is in the books. Can you now please share your suggestions/ideas for 2019? (Apologies if you've already posted them.)
  14. BD moved their ##### off this year. Not always the case from year to year. But they've also shown that moving the most doesn't equal difficulty (or a championship for that matter). That said, if you think Gaines is in the HOF for all the easy drill he's written over the years, please send me a couple grams of whatever the hell it is you're smoking.
  15. I was emotionally connected. Sorry. Nice hot take though. It's always amusing when a rookie pops up randomly tear down a championship show. Welcome to DCP.
  16. Well then the whiff of weed I got must've been from where he was sitting because he was definitely smokin' something.
  17. Anomaly. Either poor number management from the judge, or he just wasn't watching. Cadets guard is much improved, but they shouldn't be beating Crown or BAC's line in either content or execution.
  18. Awesome night of drum corps. Vanguard is something special this year. What an absolute treat to see them live. Wow. No idea where and what the guard judge was doing tonight, but it wasn’t anywhere near Talen Energy Stadium watching drum corps. posted from the DrumScorps app
  19. I'm not sure the last time I saw a corps jump 4 points from one contest to the next. Lots of factors to consider of course, but either way, Mandarins put some folks on notice with that score.
  20. TFN's only redeeming quality was the playback and archive. Which I doubt would even be available in today's copyright world had they wrongly chosen to stay at it. Flo struggled last year, no doubt. They've improved a lot this go round though. Are there still issues? Sure... but I have access to a ton more drum corps this summer than I would without them.
  21. Well?? They're not doing any good hiding behind this post. Start a Cadets 2019 thread so us Borg can get a jump start on the page count and #### off the haters.
  22. I've tuned in to multiple shows so far this season and haven't had any issues (knock on wood). There have been brief moments of minor pixelation, but it's just a matter of reverting back to SD for a second or two, then it's back to HD. My experience with them compared to last year is definitely improved. My only current gripe is with the multi-cam option: their field camera folks seem to struggle with what to focus on and they will sometimes cut to a dude on the field who appears to be running with a handheld, making me wish I had some Dramamine on hand. The fact that they now have FloVoice means I got even more bang for my buck to see some friends compete at the barbershop convention this past week as well.
  23. Waiting for this show to click for me. It's got some of their trademark moments, and competitive captions (percussion, man... wow) but it still feels really disjointed. The ballad continues to puzzle me. Yanks me right out of the show... I start hearing the lyrics in my head and just can't see how it remotely ties into the theme at all. Was hoping the new closer would help bring things together, but no.... Certainly time for them to figure it out. I'm not usually a believer in the show until August (or even after the season ends), so I'm sure it will get there eventually.
