  1. This is the most exciting musical lineup I've seen from BD in many years. As a huge Stephen Sondheim fan and huge non-BD fan I can't wait to see what they do with this. Maybe this year I can root for them??? !!!
  2. Well, I for one am optimistic like I always am. 2013 rocked musically but failed visually, 2014 rocked visually but failed in GE. Perhaps 2015 can rock visual and musical and without the narration and controversial Americana be a fan favorite to boot.
  3. I was on there too. I'm hopeful that this will pacify some of the critics of the recent programming. I'm sure some will figure out some way to make it a problem based on the composer (i.e. another corps...). I'm happy there isn't narration. Doesn't bother me a lot but doesn't add much either.
  4. For someone who felt I took a personal attack on them previously, your first line sure seems a bit "attacky". So the Coats getting silver proves what again? Since the top 5 corps had more props than 10 broadway shows combined I disagree that that is what it means. I don't dislike that the corps played Appalachian spring again. Or that SCV has played it more than once. It is presented differently and fresh each time. Your opinion is yours and not something the design team "needs to learn". George has mentioned before that some of the fans don't like music repeated, ever, but if it it serves the mood perfectly they feel it is necessary. Can you share why you believe the design team should take your posts to heart over the many others on this board? Maybe you could present your crowdsourcing idea to DCI and persuade them to make it available? Based on your philosophy, movie studios, broadway theaters and artists across the country need what you are offering.
  5. ^^ C'mon Tekk. Don't worry about it. 2000 was an awesome show. One I watch again and again. One opinion.
  6. Sorry you found this a personal attack. Wasn't intended to be. I just don't understand post after post saying how much you hate a show. In a previous quote you said you weren't talking politics. But it sure looks like it to me. Chaddy T: I don't think the tarps add much either, but it doesn't make me hate the show. I think the cutouts in the background of SCV's show this year and last year are totally unnecessary and are distracting, yet I don't dislike the show because of it. The same could be said for the big Tree in SOA's show, the wagons in the back of X-Mens show, and the piles of white props BD continues to subject us to. It does appear however, that the corps themselves believe they do. Does it make them wrong if some viewers don't? The only props to me that really seem to fit a show are Bluecoats ramps.
  7. Or that they stood up because they were playing "America the beautiful" and many feel they should stand out of respect? I love the Troopers show this year. I'm hopeful they make it back into the top 10.
  8. For someone who hates this show and believes it isn't artistic or thought provoking you sure share a lot of your thoughts about it. How much do you talk about things you do like or think are thought-provoking? Congrats on your vocabulary. Are you looking for affirmation?
  9. Congrats to BK for this show design and execution. I can say with no doubt this is the best BK show (In my opnion) I've ever seen. Got to see them in Houston live and watching them last night was just blown away. I'm very happy to see them placing where they are. They deserve it. Great job folks!!!!!
  10. Let's not forget the Cadets are executing the absolute ^&*# out of their show and that drives the GE scores up. I actively look for mistakes visually and the corps and colorguard are executing better than any except BD.
  11. I will forever not understand why folks think the judging is wrong when it is the corps themselves that decide how they want to be judged. If DCI corps want to be rewarded for cheesy over-the-top propaganda/designwork/etc., then that's what they're gonna get rewarded for. Just because you hate it, doesn't mean it should be judged that way. I personally think a lot of the BD show is cheesy and over the top too. So is Carolina Crowns. So is SCV and Cavaliers. Yeah, I get it. They are vampires. Jeez, you gotta beat me over the head with that? See the similarities?
  12. I will forever love the Cadets, but I do agree that some of this is just unnecessary. Reminds me of Star's Patriotic show in the early 90's (1992?). Just seems a bit over the top. I hope they take the silver!
  13. Will have to change the judging sheets and expectations to change this.
  14. Now that there are double judging panels, I just don't see straight 10's across the board from all of the effect judges or the music judges for that matter. 99.05
  15. Except that there are plenty here who have a problem with patriotism, starting challenging conversations and prompting thought from people who read it. Sounds kinda like art to me.
  16. This is far from the first "Patriotic" show from the Cadets. They have done several. I don't see this as "Rah-Rah US", with perhaps the exception of the Reagan quote before App Spring. However, remember (if you were alive then) that Reagan was the "patriotism president" and what he said and did is what the show is about. It's about the leaders and what they said to motivate people in their point in time. The narrator makes that very clear in the opening minute of the show. It is an extension of what Lincoln Portrait is about. If you think of it in those terms, they nailed the design of the show. If you don't care for it, then fine. But that doesn't make the show poorly designed. I think a few places missed the mark musically, but perhaps that is just my taste. I'm not sold on the ending based on what I saw on FN but I know that's not a fair way to judge. Some folks on here just look like they are really trying to find stuff to be unhappy about. Just enjoy it for what it is.
  17. 2007's Cadets show music was open-sourced for suggestions. You can go search back in the archives and find all the discussion about how "George H. must be creatively bankrupt to need someone to decide his program for him". You just can't make everyone happy. Just because you don't like something or it wasn't successful doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile or that there wasn't a whole lot of heart that went into it. Thousands of failed artists over the years would agree.
  18. How do the Blue Devils win with shows that garner golf claps?
  19. Still not loving this uni but I like this show.
  20. Well I for one am curious to get to see said ending since here in the deep south we only get one shot at seeing our corps, and if they rain out we are hosed. You folks in New England get several views. I'm not surprised the ending (whatever it is) is polarizing. I remember Crown having a similar reaction to their change in 09. People were already disappointed that Cadets didn't run and gun enough. The big disappointment for me is that BD have pulled away already. I don't get how that show gets such high GE scores, but it is the first BD show I've liked in a few years so maybe that's it (people like it?).
  21. Even Rondinaro said the Cadets were his second goosebump show moment of the night at the cinema last month. So it is making an impact with some. i think there are several huge emotional moments. For the record, I haven't gotten goosebumps from a single BD show this century, but that has certainly not been a problem for them. PR a lot of goosebump moments. CC a few. None from BC this year. So yeah, its all a matter of taste and personal connection. Is this what you're referring to as an emotional response?
  22. How is this a credibility issue? Thread after thread we see people complain about slotting. Now we have good evidence that the percussion judges are calling it nightly and you complain that its bad judging? I guess it's just a matter of not getting the outcome you want.
  23. Glad these folks got to see the show. We weren't so lucky in Austin! That was mis-managed weather avoidance.
