  1. If someone's not at the level to be able to handle a show like this, why sign them into a highly competitive atmosphere where they're in over their head. I've seen this happen many times, and the kids end up hating the activity. Just because someone has money and can attend rehearsals doesn't mean he/she is right for a particular corps. Especially when that person has the ability to grow those musical skills in many other corps that will never be full all summer.
  2. Yes you can. The technique you use with the stick to approach the drum greatly influences the sound. I would say that quality of sound is arguably the most important part of playing percussion along with playing clean within the line.
  3. Corps that house members are babying them? Come on... Blue Devils make you grow up by having people rent apartments and get part time jobs? Isn't that what most college kids are doing before they move in anyway? Do they not grow up and live life before BD makes them do it?
  4. A corps that holds vets up to a standard by making them audition has no values? Are you serious?
  5. I remember hearing that, but I'm not sure who said it. http://www.cavaliers.org/cgi-bin/news.pl?c...tory&id=704
  6. I believe Cavaliers have at least 3. (The last time I noticed was with Frameworks) Bluecoats had 3 last year.
  7. Dave Glasgow, I believe, played Euph before he was drum major.
  8. Any if Tommy had attitude issues all last summer, sign him anyway? And if he hasn't played his horn once since finals and now doesn't have the chops to play second or third at the level that drum corps requires...sign him anyway? There's difference about being loyal and holding the standards that drum corps requires. I do have a clue about loyalty.
  9. If a vet isn't living up to the expectations of the corps, then they should be able to be cut. For most, this isn't an issue, but I've seen people make the corps, march a few summers, and then do nothing to make themselves better since they were guaranteed a spot each winter even as the rest of the talent increased around them. There should be an expectation of what it takes to be in one of those 135 spots. If you let a vet that isn't working during the offseason, or isn't trying to improve him or herself into a spot automatically, then what are you saying to the rest of the corps? It's okay to not quite be at the level that we expect? If you have to unfortunately cut a vet, that sets a high value for those spots. Vets have to live up to the expectations of everyone else, even if they did march a summer or two. I'm not for cutting vets, but I totally understand why it has to happen in some situations.
  10. Just one correction...Bluecoats marched 64 horns last year. By the way, I absolutely loved your show last year.
  11. There's a great video of Imogen performing three of her songs live including Hide and Seek. Really cool stuff. It's in the list of videos on the right. http://www.rehearsals.com/news/article.jsp...s&fext=.jsp
  12. If you've never heard it, it's on Immi's page. It's just her and her vocoder. Incredible piece! http://www.myspace.com/imogenheap
  13. And you're kidding right? I absolutely hated parades. I can't remember one person that I ever marched with or taught that enjoyed them. Everyone must have been undisciplined or unprofessional. Just do what you're told and like it!!!!
  14. I would LOVE to see additional electronics allowed. Synth's, MalletKAT's, laptops, electronic drums, etc... There are great things going on in WGI that I would love to see used in DCI.
  15. March your dream corps! Do whatever it takes since the opportunity will soon pass you up.
  16. They DID mention all-age! What more do you WANT????
  17. No Glassmen either. They must have folded....
  18. I think Glassmen have one of the best looking uniforms. Especially this season.
  19. Not all directors do. If some do, I think a break or vacation would be extremely beneficial. I wouldn't recommend to anyone a full summer of teaching/administrating without some time off.
