  1. Word is also Southwind is trying to make a come back. And the Cascades have announced a return.
  2. I wouldn't count on the BDB and SCV Cadets. I'm sure both organizations are trying to maintain their open corps as more of an opportunity for kids who can't afford or don't have the time to travel with the world corps.
  3. Don't want to downplay this class but corps rivalries are thanks to rowdy and biased DCPers like us. Real corps kids really do see other real human beings in the other corps and it's great to something under that uni once in a while. That's why it was great seeing the corps bode so well with each other at ToC in '04.
  4. Hey, um... yeah, maybe you guys noticed. Despite Hopkins did say the narration wasn't working. Actually, he just said "things" weren't working out... he did say that narration had a place for all corps in the future, or something along those lines.
  5. If the Blue Devils win, they will not go down in history. If the Cavaliers win, they will not go down in history. If Phantom wins, they will uproot history. If Phantom doesn't win, they will still uproot history. This will definitely be one of those shows where 20 years from now they will say "Man, who won in 2008 again? I forget, but it should have been Phantom with their kick ### show."
  6. What kind of a selfish ######## thinks that the whole point of field band is so we can sit back, feel good about ourselves, and say, "Hey look! Drum corps in South Africa?" Do you think field band was created for us? And what kind of a more bastardish person thinks they can sit in an air-conditioned theater with reclining seats and gripe about waiting for the scores while a simple 2 minute message is delivered about the atrocities going on outside YOUR #### LITTLE COMFORT ZONE? THIS IS WHY THE WORLD HATES AMERICA.
  7. Scouts really delivered tonight even after the ups and downs they've been through this past decade. But then again, Delucia had something ugly to say about almost every corps afterwards. Still, I can't remember what he said about the Scouts because it's irrelevant. Go Scouts!
  8. I will agree. What an unfortunate way for them to open up to theater audiences. I was looking forward to them but was left shaking my head. My friend next to me even fell asleep.
  9. It's a subjective question that requires a subjective answer. The answer is that both are required, but it depends on how well the kids adapt to their shows. For example, I would see impending disaster if the Cavies and Phantom traded shows. Equally, let's try to see the Scouts do a sunburst and the Troopers a wheel turn. It doesn't happen that way.
  10. I was sadly disappointed with Spirit. :( Them being the first corps of the broadcast, I was hoping for an exciting jump start to the evening, but it just wasn't there. There was a lot of visual dirt, the hornline didn't seem in place, it was just boring. I know the kids were working really hard, but something wasn't clicking. I was really glad, though, when the Colts came out. They brought tremendous energy. Overall, much more eye-opening than Spirit. Madison was really fun, glad to see them bring out those screamers. The wheel turn was awesome, really fun to see that. They were able to keep going the energy the Colts started out with. Bones! I'll agree with Delucia. The opener grabs you, but their closer died on me. I really wanted to like the Glassmen, but it just never took me in. They were noticeably dirty and I think a good amount of energy got lost in who-knows-what. BAC. Okay, I'll be honest. I can't remember much. Well executed, but I liked them better last year. Blue Stars were fantastic. They had a fun show and brought out a lot of energy right up to the closer. Congrats to them for placing in finals range! BK. Come on, my knights! Brass was great, but just what is going on in the show? I couldn't stay intrigued. Same stuff going on over and over again. I still love them in my heart, though. Coats. Cool show, really awesome horn block, but a pretty boring visual program. I was waiting for the Vanguard yell and I got it (with only about one other person , HA), but really catchy and SCVish drill. It was a little dirty but good hornline playing. Cadets deserved their score, but the narration was much cheesier than last year. I was a big fan last year, but the narrating didn't make as much sense. I like Hopkins' honesty, I just wish he didn't have as much ambition. Still, really clean horn playing though. Phantom! I am biased, but WOW! Only standing ovation in our theater. The brass is off the charts. Of course, they readily deserve high percussion, but still waiting to see them clean up. Cavies played a well executed show, but it was flat. The energy was stagnant, music didn't really develop, but there were some really outstanding visual moments. Blue Devils also executed very well tonight, but again, I just don't understand the show. What does it even mean to risk absurdity and I just don't see how the corps is justifying this theme. The brass is really good, colorguard absolutely phenomenal, I will say.
  11. I was out at Redmond because I didn't want to be bothered with a parking hassle. We only had about 20-30 attendees, but not everyone there was the brightest drum corps bulb. But there were no hiccups except for a few audio skips.
  12. I'm just getting more of what they did last year. Not saying anything thematically since I like this show better, but while they're executing in technical superiority, I just don't darn well get their show. Is running around just showing absurdity? Either way, they did do a good job, but there's no way in hell they did a perfect visual ensemble. No one in history has ever done that and I don't think a 20 should ever be given to any show.
  13. OHMYGOSH! The wheel was fantastic, I'll admit that!
  14. Don't need to put on the flame-retardant suit because it's been said. Sorry, but BD's visual score is complete bull. I will agree that the colorguard was phenomenal but man, I did spot some noticeable dirt in the horn drill. There's no way they should have gotten perfect 10s across vis. performance. But whatever, still got 2 nights left. Congrats to the devils anyway.
  15. Haha! Yes! Phantom was the only corps to receive a standing ovation in our theater.
  16. I was considering Pacific Place but Bella Botega in Redmond is closer, so I'll be there.
  17. Phantom has definitely the best tuned tenors, and even though the snares are on fire, I'm not so sure they're the best.
  18. It varies from theater to theater on whether tickets will sell out or not. Chances are they won't if you show up a bit early to purchase them. The cinecast begins at 6pm EST/3pm PST. They will start the showing with Spirit. Here is the lineup: http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=a...a5-7fffda91f663
  19. Pretty much every show for the past 7 years with the exception of 2000, 2002, 2005, and maybe 2001. Every other year, there was another better show that didn't win...IMO, of course.
  20. Don't worry. With the Olympics starting on the same day, I'm sure you'll find a good number of vacancies.
  21. Relax. It wasn't as bad as Portland where seats weren't much cheaper, and yet only 2 world corps showed up.
  22. That was mentioned by another member in the Denver thread. Yes, apparently a member was standing in the wrong spot.
