  1. I honestly think that several of the lower end division 1 corps should move to division 2. What is it now 23 division 1 corps and only half that many division 2s.... hmmm
  2. Hmmm yes indeed...What is this drum corps you speak of? But hey! I'll tell you something cool I do over the summer. I paid a few thousand dollars to run around grass and turf with whacky overalls and a feather on my head. Sounds pretty cool eh? Oh sir, I'm so truly sorry. My opinions are mine, and yours are yours. Oh.... let me apologize again...but I don't think you seem to realize that. According to you, I have no validity in my discussion that is true and that isn't what drum corps. People perceive things differently. Whether you like it or not. I don't have to have a PhD in Drum Corps analysis to participate in a forum list game. You sound like as if I said god forbiddened blasphemy. Stop using words like validity and credibility. Lighten Up.
  3. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Blue Devils fan but a lot of times I don't see them to really level themselves with a lot of these other shows. The shows we're talking about are shows that come off the field, leaving the green on fire. If there's a top 3 that does this job more than any other year that I've watched, it's definitely 1993. They were in Division 0.5. Phantom Regiment, Star of Indiana, and The Cadets of Bergen County were absolute gods and devils on wheels.
  4. Sometimes when you see a particular show, it's design, raw power, performance, and execution absolutely blow you away. These aren't shows that I like, or enjoy as much as their power to seperate themselves from everyone else that was out there. I've narrowed down some of these shows that define themselves in another league. -1987 Garfield Cadets - Appalachian Spring -1989 Santa Clara Vanguard - Phantom of the Opera -1989 Phantom Regiment - New World Symphony -1990 Star of Indiana - Belshazzar's Feast -1991 Star of Indiana - Roman Images -1993 Star of Indiana - Medea -1993 The Cadets of Bergen County - In the Spring... When Kings Go Off to War -1995 The Cavaliers - The Planets -1999 Santa Clara Vanguard - Inventions for a new Millennium -2000 The Cadets - We Are the Future from Millennium Celebration -2000 The Cavaliers - Niagra Falls -2002 The Cavaliers - Frameworks -2005 The Cadets - The Zone -(i gotta watch the DVD for 2006 to be sure, gotta refresh my memory)
  5. Not saying there weren't great ballads in years past but has anyone noticed that The ballads of the last 7 years are incredibly gorgeous? Some of the ones out there: -2000 Santa Clara Vanguard -2000 Boston Crusaders -2001 Boston Crusaders -2001 The Cadets -2003 Phantom Regiment -2003 Blue Devils -2004 Carolina Crown -2005 Carolina Crown -2005 The Cadets -2005 Phantom Regiment -2006 Phantom Regiment -2006 The Cadets
  6. Division 1 Top 3 Picks -Phantom Regiment -Blue Devils -Carolina Crown Division 2 Top 3 Picks -The Academy -Jersey Surf -Oregon Crusaders
  7. Sit in front of the tv, take out your mouthpiece and if you want your horn with it, and do long tones.
  8. I was getting very upset looking at what Happened to ECJ recently, Phantom Regiment with their debt still to pay off, the Troopers and Kiwanis, recently with Phoenix a few years ago folding as well.
  9. Too many corps are going down these days, the numbers are getting smaller because of financial difficulties.
  10. Monster Guard Years = 2000 + 2003 + 2005. WHOOO The Cavaliers 2000 The Cadets 2000 Blue Devils 2003 The Cadets 2003 Phantom Regiment 2005 The Cadets 2005 ********** OH MY GOD........... < One of the best EVER
  11. While 2006 is one of my favorite years of DCI, I i've begun to conclude that possibly this was an excellent year with Guard Books, well written, and very eye catchy. However, in terms of execution these guards don't seem to live up to 2003, 2004, and especially 2005. Great books, but pretty noticable phasing happening left and right more so than other years. Anyone see anything similar?
  12. Sponsorships and Fundraisers helped me to not pay a dime for my D 1 tour
  13. Overall Trumpets/Sopranos - Hands down The Cadets 2000 + Blue Devils 2000 and The Cadets 2003 Mellophones - Star of Indiana 1990, 1991 + The Cadets 1993 Baritones/Euphoniums - Phantom Regiment 2006 Tuba/Contras - Star of Indiana 1991, 1992 2006 Season Trumpets - The Cadets, so a controversial show, I've given up on caring, this show actually has great moments in it. The trumpets were absolutely on fire, especially in the feature in White Rabbit Mellophones - The Cavaliers, not featured that exclusively, but great control Baritones/Euphoniums - No question Phantom Regiment Tuba - Phantom Regiment, what a great bass support during Ave Maria
  14. Once one knows how judging/captions really work, one tends to care less about score
  15. I've done Hornline and Guard. Hornline was by far the most physically tiring (especially in the beginning of the season) because of the breathing factor. Legs Burning, Arms Burning, Diaphragm in Pain, Out of breath (it's just an out of the world feeling, a good kinda pain) I guess it makes sense (for me at least). The hornline gets judged in my most categories Visual GE (the judge mostly looks at the hornline drill) Music GE (hornline and percussion) Visual Performance (mostly all concentrated on hornline feet) Visual Ensemble (a lot of hornline concentrations since they have the primary drill) Color Guard (no...) Brass (concentrated on the hornline sound from the field) Music Ensemble (concentrated on the hornline sound from the box) Percussion #1 (Percussion from the field no...) Percussion #2 (Percussion from the box no...)
  16. Phantom Regiment 2006 The Cavaliers 1991 The Cadets 1992 The Cadets 1997
  17. Blue Devils are more enjoyable to watch and hear from the lower level rather than from the high angle.
  18. Don't forget that you're writing something from scratch in a smaller amount of time to prepare it for the season. In arranging you're playing with a premade set, but you can't destroy the work, yet still have to make it work on the field. They both take integrity. Saucedo starts with nothing already knowing he has to make it for Trumpets, Mellos, Baris, and Tubas Arrangers have to compress maintain an orchestra (violins, violas, cellos, string basses, brasses, woodwinds, percussion) all into a 4 part brass choir.
  19. This in my opinion is true. I love the visuals involved but once you watch their shows it's based upon the common concept of a ripple. Ripple this rotate that, ripple this rotate that. Even if it doesn't look like a ripple, the members are making the effect by a rippled ensemble move. Eitherway I really don't care, I love the visuals
  20. It's just a little amusing that a few of you can so confidently distinguish by ear on TV or maybe one performance between a 19.60 and a 19.40 in brass.
