American Idol made its debut as a summer replacement show in 02. I had never heard of it or Kelly Clarkson by the time the 2nd season started. I still had no idea what it was and why people were making such a big deal about it. I finally figured it out for the season 2 finale.... found out I wasn't missing much...

Try telling that to the corps that finished 13th and 18th that year and missed out on performing in Finals/Semifinals. I was in one of those corps.

I don't think he was talking about placements. He said "things in the show." From reading all the reviews this year I haven't really heard about anything that everyone was saying "oh wow! you have to see what ____ is doing in their show!" Not that the shows aren't amazing, there's just nothing out of the ordinary (other than The Cadets' narriation). But that's not saying that a similar occurance to the "1989 frack" couldn't happen on finals night.

Just something fun to look at... On July 1st last year the difference between 1st and 7th was 6.85. The Cavies won the championship last year. At their first show this year they could have all run into each other and fell down all over the field, with only half the corps able to finish the show and they still would have scored that high. Just look at last year. On June 22nd The Cadets scored 74.45 and beat Phantom at that show. And we all know how they ended up...

I did march and yes, I've heard of it. But Rosie hosting still has nothing to do with drum corps. I've seen topics that had more relevance to drum corps that were closed much quicker.

How is this topic still open? It has nothing to do with drum corps.

It's not that something is wrong with them. It's just that everyone else has really stepped it up this year.

I don't like to make predictions but it seems to me that a lot of people in this thread are underestimating the Scouts...

Here's my $.02... I saw the video before it was pulled. I LOVED a majority of the show. I think it can easily become one of my favorites ever. The music is amazing and the hornline is smokin as they play it. I don't know much about percussion but I can tell they are really good already. The drill... WOW. This show reminds me a lot 2000 Cadets, which is one of my favorites, only I think this one has the potential to be better. I loved their 2006 show. The narriation didn't bother me because it was done in moderation. The only time someone was speaking OVER the corps was when she sang during the ballad. The key word there being SANG. She wasn't talking, instead she was adding something musical to the ballad which, in my opinion, was beautiful. The only talking that went on was in between percussion licks and it didn't last over 10 mins. As I was watching the video of this year's show, I found it hard to sit through the whole thing. I almost couldn't get through it because of the narriation. It is just too DISTRACTING. My biggest problem is that even when the corps is playing kick ### music, the person is talking OVER the corps! It almost felt like I was watching a live performance and the guy behind me was talking the whole time. As the show stands right now, I don't think I could listen to it again. Thank God they put an option to download a verision without narriation on their page. I think it's ok for them to leave some of the narriation in, it fits with the theme of their show. I just wish they would not TALK OVER the corps and save it for the transitions.

ok, so after going over what this membership really gives you, this is pretty much what you get for $90... 1) You automatically get access to the webcasts. This would save you $30 if you ended up doing pay per view on each one. But if you are unable to watch it at the time it is broadcasted, you miss out on the whole thing and payed for something you didn't even watch (except for Annapolis, San Antonio and Semifinals which you can watch whenever.) So what you are really doing is just signing up for the pay per view early at a $30 discount. 2) You save $1.00 on APDs. But since the money goes back to the corps anyway, I don't really mind paying full price. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's the only differences between the Gold and Platinum memberships. So basically I will be paying $90 for 8 shows I may or may not be able to watch. And I will save $1.00 on APDs that I wasn't planning on buying many of to begin with. I will probably end up buying around a dozen, which that means that $12 I could save by doing this. But it's also $12 the corps don't get. I think the corps need the $12 more than I do. My decision on platinum membership.... <**>

I'm trying to decide if I should spend the $90 or not. I live in Florida and there are no shows coming anywhere near me this year, unless I want to drive over 5 hrs to Atlanta. This means I will have to get all of my drum corps via internet this year (this will be the first time in almost 10 years that I have not been to a live show). I was all set to get the platinum package but then noticed it's $90. One question I have is... say I have to work the night of one of the web casts. Could I go back later and watch it if I have the platinum package? If so, I could see where it could be worth $90. I mean, I don't want to pay for something if I'm never going to get a chance to watch it.
