  1. A good friend of mine marched the 1992 Cavaliers. I know that for several years they had a championship lapel pin set starting with the 92 Revolution pin. Apparently at the 2011 Championships, they were just handing out those pin sets for free! I emailed Cavaliers, and they do not have anymore....and I haven't seen on ebay. Anyone have one? I do not need the entire set....I really only want the 92 pin. I hope someone has one that they are willing to part with! Thanks....
  2. For a couple of years the Cavaliers had a pin set (like lapel pins) that had the show logos of championship years. I never did buy a set, as I was only interested in one year, 1992. I went to the Cavalier souvie booth in Indy, and they said they gave them out for free last year, as no one was buying them! They said they had hundreds (or thousands) or them. Anyway, I have a friend who marched Cavies in 92 and would love to give him a 92 pin (revolution) for Christmas. Did anyone pick up one of these sets, but have no attachment to the 1992 pin? Maybe you only marched the shows in the 2000s, etc... Anyway, there are bound to be some of these around, since they said they gave out sets for free. Hope someone can help!
  3. thanks for your reply - i found an earlier thread from a few years ago - many say low is good. a few said high. some said that the high seats, while an interesting view, felt very disconnected from the field in this stadium, and that the rake was really steep up top! too bad there isn't an easy answer!
  4. I am thinking of coming to INDY for semifinals. In Lucas Oil Stadium, I know the sound is much better down low than in the middle section (in my opinion). But I haven't tried sitting high up there. Any thoughts? What is better, sitting low or sitting high? (I know there will be a million replies of 'there are no good seats in LOS...the sound sux'! But I would appreciate a few monosyllabic replies: "Low" or "High". Thanks!)
  5. I mainly agree. Here are my gut reactions (reference: marched Pit crown 90 *charter member, woohoo* and crossmen 91) Before the show: Took forever to get in and to get to your seats. It was packed! For a show like this, they need to rethink the stadium, or find more ways to get people into the stands. Show started late as a result. -Blue Stars - not that memorable. They do not convey the show story well, and it just doesn't click. Their encore was ok, a pop tune, but they were first, and took a while to get set up -Bluecoats - pretty much the same as above - Concept is easier to follow, but not the best show. A few nice moments. Came straight up to do the encore and didn't waste any time. Another pop tune, nothing special, and one of the DMs rolled his eyes during it as he was clapping for the crowd. He was cute while doing it though, so it was ok. -Cavaliers - of course, very very entertaining. The music is ok, but not as good as some others. The tricks are fun and outstanding. Excellent show. I noticed a hornline collision, but no one fell. Great encore. Beautifully played pit feature, then Mars. The crowd loved it. Dan Potter interviewed a stilt walker, who said he basically fell on his face the first time he put them on. Dan said the Cavaliers guard will be available to paint ceilings in your home after the season. HI-LAR-I-OUS! -Blue Devils - I expected to dislike this show, especially after seeing it online. But, I LOVED IT! Really! It is great!!! Reminds me of a fantastic 90s drum corps show. Beautifully scored, beautifully staged, well executed, and LOUD! Much louder than the previous corps. All sections are strong. Great story, easy to follow, and a great great show. Probably tied with Crown for my favorite of the night. Only real goosebumps of the night. Then they came forward to do an equally entertaining encore. Excellent job! -Intermission. Didn't dare leave our seats! We would never get back in! Neither did the larger couple in front of us, who were using our knees as backrests ;-). Its a small stadium for this event. The gong race was cute, but the winning kid did not make 8 full rotations around the rifle before running to hit the gong! Just sayin' ;-) -Vanguard - well, it's just a weak hornline. Devils Staircase just does not work on the field. Too bad. A quick Khachaturian encore from 87, but mainly percussion. Shortest encore of the night, after a not great show. -Phantom - what a lovely show. Loud, and like BD, reminds me of a classic drum corps show. Everyone loved it. They could rework/recompose the ballad to make it more beautiful, IMO. Bacchanale encore, which everyone appreciated. -Crown - Outstanding! The guard is just amazing! Loudest and very entertaining. What a horn line. I liked it better than I thought I would, and I am glad. A good run. Not sure about the 2 second FreeBird at the end. Their encore was the only one with drill and guard. Toss toss after incredible toss, even in the encore. I hope they make the encore part of the judged show, and maybe just skip the last Rach quote maybe. If they have this marching encore in the show every night, they may have to come up with an additional encore, so that the crowd doesn't feel cheated. This actually could be a winning show. Deserves all the points it gets. Dan Potter interviewed the main rifle guy at the end, which was great. -Cadets - I had thought I would like the show better than I did. But it was just meh. The drill is not as fast, IMO, because instead of movement, they rely on drill placement (devil, angel, devil, angel) to create motion in the drill, especially at the end. It was good, but not as good as I had hoped. Too much bass support with synth. Cool poles feature though. Their encore was at least 3 times longer, and GH was running it. Boring pit feature, boring William Tell small ensemble feature, and finally a very loud Moondance. I wondered if they were eating up time before scores since they were last, but I don't think so. -Finale - neat. Great LOUD latin piece. All corps guards had changed to black and did a little work. All the corps were combined and mixed (mainly by instrument), like the old meet and greet retreat. Then a shorter 30 second latin tag with huge double flags....wish that had been longer so I could have gotten a pic! Amazing and Fun! A few BD guard members (id'ed by their makeup) had fun experimenting with their double flags when packing up, which was funny. I fan scored it 8. BS 7. BC 6. SCV then obvious jump in level to the top 5 5. Cadets 4. Cavies 3. Phantom (close with Cavies... could switch those...home advantage helped) 2. BD (very close to Crown) 1. Crown
  6. ooo, ooo, i have a question! arent the G7 corps technically now not voting members in DCI? or did all that get smoothed over? is that why there are so few rules proposals this year? although bluecoats did make a proposal, which doesn't seem to make sense then... who knows the answer?
  7. i guess i should read all the posts first but.... I am very disappointed! I think the sound is not good at all on the dvds (not blu ray) - the mics could not handle the big hits, and the sound cuts out in the loud parts - i watch mine on a couple of dvd players and i get the same result -
  8. frig magnets are always cool - always wanted to see a vanguard star as a magnet - someone said mugs which would be a good idea -
  9. i think it would only work if a reunion corps was performing finals week - like 27 a few years ago....
  10. Since the Star Reunion corps will be performing during finals week, how about a Star souvie booth? What I would love to see... -star magnets -reprints of a select couple of t-shirts -a tee with squares of art depicting each year of the corps... they could also sell blast and brass theater DVDS, CDs, etc.... will this happen? i think it would be nice....
  11. get outta my head hrnguy! i was thinking the same thing!
  12. crown did some of nevsky their 2nd year - i would love for crown to revisit that piece...the whole thing is great
  13. thanks man - these seats were not available the other day - i just purchased found this seating chart! http://www.goredbirds.com/sports/m-footbl/...tailgating.html see ya at the show - i'm section B row 22 seat 19 - really appreciate you pointing out these seats opening up! chris (looking forward to seeing crown...marched them the first year out, 1990)
  14. hey man thanks - the other day those were not avail - they only had section A and E - do you have a webpage for a seating chart for the stadium?
  15. yeah, i had forgotten that there are so many kids there, but it such a good lineup, i am sure I will find a way to enjoy it! so...anyone have tix?
  16. Called DCI and they only have seats in the outer edges for this Fridays show. I need two tickets and will take my chances at the gate (to see who is selling tickets) but thought I would check here too. I plan on going down early, and also live and work in Chicago. Of course, would prefer the center section
  17. anyone know when this show is scheduled to start? 7, 730? if you know, please tell me! thanks....
  18. is there a CD review feed that would be better than here? anyway, i received my cds a week ago (chicago), and here are my thoughts -i am enjoying phantom more on cd - i love hearing the gasps from the audience and other audience participation for this show - almost makes me cry ;-) very entertaining -i really liked bd in person, but havent listened much on cd -i like the crowd reaction for the end of cavies - i think at the beginning of the ballad there is a guy shouting 'tonite you die' from most kung fu movies, but hard to pick it out since others are shouting at the same time -of course love crown, however i dont think the mics could handle the impacts - some of them almost cut out for the hits cos it was too loud - wish that girl wouldnt have screamed so in the middle of the ballad after the completion of that flag toss circle... but definitely excellent stuff -jumping to bcoats - i understand putting that one brass chorus towards in end in the righthand speaker, but its disappointing that way - did i only hear it from my right ear? no! ok if the balance was more to the right, but with no left, and me being in the drivers seat (the only place i can really crank the volume the way i want, by myself driving), i miss hearing it thru the drivers side speakers too -scv - loud scv yell, however could have used more snapping from the audience in the storny section -bluestars - really miss hearing the pavane warmup - too bad it didnt make it... great cds though - listening to the crowd in phantom is worth it - everyone is so shocked when the dm throws that girl in the ballad, it makes me laugh! how many times did everyone see that show!? were they gonna do a aerobed spot finals nite and throw her on a soft surface? no, but you knew that, night after night! enjoy
  19. nixon in china has been done - this year - vanguard - chairman dances are from nixon
  20. crown did nevsky back in the day (91 - second year out) - but....to have them do it now with the hornline would be something special!
  21. ah thanks - it still looks like i would have to pay again though, or do you know if they have given refunds to those who downloaded the bad one?
  22. does anyone know if this problem was fixed? i see dci has it up again on its website... i was away on vacation for a week and a half, but no one from dci ever returned my calls or emails about this problem - i don't feel like i should have to pay for it again however if the recording was corrected.....
