  1. They do captions between placements. So 12-10, High Brass, 9-7 High Perc etc...
  2. Yeah, but it's so nerve wracking waiting for scores! ETA: Well, ask and ye shall recieve I guess.
  3. Huh, not what I expected at all. I thought it would be a close but pretty even spread between BDB, OC and the Spartans. We'llsee what Erie brings.
  4. With each passing show, the tension is getting thicker and thicker! Right now it's anyone's game and the top 4 in OC will play musical chairs in the next week.
  5. Official scores Blue Devils B 85.100 Oregon Crusaders 84.350 Spartans 83.150 Genesis 78.750 Legends 75.600 Les Stentors 65.050 Blue Saints 49.400
  6. This is shaping up to be an exciting year. Last year everyone was playing catch up to SCVC and BDB who ran away with it, but I'd say BDB, SCVC, OC and Spartans are going to be very close for the rest of the year score wise.
  7. I wasn't there, but if both Spartans and 7th went up 11ish points in a week, there's some good work being put in at the respective home bases.
  8. In recent memory 2008 Teal Sound - that opener pushed me back in my seat 2008 Crown - that opening impact 2008 Bluecoats - The Boxer chorale 2011/2010 Madison - most of the show
  9. Good point. I know the Spartans are still building themselves up after 2009, and have done an amazing job with it. I would just wonder if history repeats itself and they become a perennial medalist/champion again (which 2010 was a great start to that) that they or any other corps for that matter would feel pressure from anyone to move up a class. As long as I see those giant black plumes on the field, I'm more than happy.
  10. This I feel is just as big an issue. If say, OC, Spartans, Revolution or MC win the next few years, they would probably get more support and look to move into the WC. Great for them, but what about BDB and SCVC? Both are competitive giants in the OC, but I doubt that they would ever move up to WC. It's hard enough running one WC corps, having two WC corps for the BD or SCV organizations is asking way too much. The point is this: If the 'All corps participate in WC Quarters' idea vanishes after this year (or in a few years), and we go back to separate OC and WC events, what will become of actual competition in the OC? I'd much prefer a battle for 1st, not 3rd.
  11. Ahem: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2260113709 Also, "If you lead with your knee one more time, I will hook you! [Pulls giant fishing hook out of pocket] I will tell you when you look like an idiot. I'm reading your faces, and you're all saying 'oh ####.' I've told you 7 times to stop leading with your knee, and it's ONLY SATURDAY! Santa Clara will not have #### on us if I have anything to say about it." [on finishing phrases]"You can't take me to dinner, see a movie, take me home, invite me in, give me some coffee and say goodnight! NO! THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT!' "We know you like loud. We like loud too. But here's the thing, we like loud more than you do!" [during stretch block]"Oh, we know how to make you groan!" "Come on Tubas, I'm giving you a beat Helen Keller can see!" "Tubas! You guys sound like farts in a bathtub!" Staff: That's what our lives are about, drinking hot coffee and beating children. Will you ever see us [brass staff] drinking iced coffee? Hornline: NO! Staff: You're ####### right, that stuff is for children. [cut to 30 min later at start of ensemble, entire visual staff is drinking iced coffees] Tech: Was that in time? Low Brass: NO! Tech: What was it? Low Brass: Out of time! :D Tech: ...Okay, I have to give you credit for actually answering me. Unlike the High Brass, who just look at me like they're scared. "I hope that's not Osama in that airplane."
  12. Guess what? It's June!

  13. Please tell me the umbrella hats are the section hats.
  14. I want to be surprised by a corps this year. Ex: BK with their show last year, first show by them I can say I've loved.
  15. Of course. I know people that have marched 5+ years, I aged out with one person that had marched 8 seasons, 6 with one corps. If you start early, and know what you're getting into, than a long career in DCI is possible. This is somewhat dependent on your surroundings. If someone has a program in high school that encourages marching, or has friends/siblings/parents that have marched, or lives near a corps, that helps set those wheels in motion. I think it's really cool that you and your son have had many years in the activity as MMs, but sometimes there are outside forces keeping us off the rehearsal field. Mine personally were money, not knowing how to play a horn, and a lack of a 'can-do' attitude. Everyone that has marched knows the rigors of getting onto the field, it just takes some of us longer to get it together.
  16. Last year both Bluecoats and Pacific Crest played Asphalt Cocktail. I liked the Coats version, but I haven't heard the PC arrangement.
  17. That's unfortunate. I could understand keeping some names in case people leave the corps for whatever reasoning, but to only release a few names out of a larger pool seems a little stingy IMO.
  18. The Cavaliers have green on their uniforms. The Santa Clara Vanguard has green on their uniforms (most years).
  19. Not necessarily. I agree in some areas of the country recruitment of members can be a challenge. But with what marching costs today, and the amount of strain put on members physically, the average time people spend marching is a lot shorter. If you figure you have one, maybe two years tops (three plus if you're lucky), Most people don't see the Open Class corps for the value they are. They only see the Blue Devils' and the Crowns and the Bluecoats' and think they'd have a better summer there. Most World Class corps post their attendance rates for auditions, which range anywhere from 150 to 400. Assuming these auditionees only try out for one World Class corps, and the average number of people auditioning is 250 per corps, that's 5,750 people, which means 2,300 of those will be cut. If they don't already, I would think that the Open Class corps should talk with their World Class counterparts and reach out to people that were cut. We all know that the more people on the field, the better. That being said, Go Open Class! June is so close!
  20. I marched Euph/Tuba, but sometimes fantasized about marching a lighter horn.
  21. I like that Teal Sound has been trying different things in programming. (IE using music from artists like Kansas and Dream Theater, and also with electronics/synths) However, sometimes I think the way their shows are programmed are different than my personal tastes. I also like that even with these changes and innovations, they have not sacrificed a great hornline, guard and drumline.
  22. Rehearsal Gear: Rehearsal Clothes (6ish pairs of shorts, few shirts, 100 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of cross-trainers) Rehearsal Bag Hat Sunblock (SPF30+) DCT Dot book/Pencils Fanny Pack (for Dot book, DCT, anything you need on the rehearsal field) Gold Bond Water Jug (1 gal minimum) Trash bag (for rain) Bus Gear: Wall Clings Sweats/Blanket for long bus rides Mat Sheet for seat Books/iPod/Cell phone Floor Gear: Sleeping Bag Air Mattress Pillow/Bedding Flip Flops Shower Things (Towel, Toothbrush, etc.) Free Day/Laundry Day Clothes (1-2 outfits)
  23. I'd love to see Son et Lumiere/Intertiatic ESP on the field.
  24. 1. BDB 2. SCVC 3. Spartans 4. Music City 5. Oregon Crusaders 6. Revolution 7. 7th Regiment 8. Legends 9. Raiders 10. Forte 11. Yokohama Scouts 12. Genesis Hopefully I remember about this come August to see how close I was.
