  1. Ontario until fairly recently had it's own competitive circuit of several corps. Some good groups!
  2. I live in sa and worked with revo in the past. Like almost all open class corps revo has, ahem, recruiting challenges in the brass and color guard sections. These problems do not seem like the were aggravated substantially by the crossmen's move to town. I know I would rather see former revo members who are looking for a world class experience go to xmen than out of state. Like a lot of TX residents i feel it would be wonderful to have a "top 6" level ensemble within our borders. I feel both corps' problems have nothing to do with the fact they are based in the same city and feel they should keep their independance.
  3. Hey, very interested to hear about incognito's show tonight; if you can talk about it that is...
  4. I've often thought each corps should have a recruiting coordinator. Maybe somebody who is also on the instructional staff with good connections to area music educators. This person can put together pamphlets, videos, schedule presentations at area schools and contests, maintain and assemble email lists of prospects, etc. Top 6 types prob don't need this but I think it would be great for everybody else. Somebody who can bridge well from the drum corps world to the scholastic world.
  5. I really hope for the best for xmen and think if they get through the next few years they will be ok. It is very tough in TX not only with marching band/summer band commitments but also most HS bands are very active with spring trips and other non-UIL contests and festivals this time of year. Sky Ryders started in much the same way in the 90's and ended up folding, although I think this had more to do with admin./fund problems than the fact they were based out of TX. As for music profs not supporting drum corps participation I don't think this is unique to TX univerisities.
  6. Saw CNN uber news babe Robin Meade taking some bp with a baseball team on headline news this morning and before she entered the cage she spun and tossed the bat a whole lot like she's had flag/rifle experience. Didn't look like baton technique. Anybody know if she had previous marching band/drum corps color guard experience? She was miss ohio a long time ago.
  7. check out "one part without a door" by caswell
  8. very cool! you got my vote! pretty realistic as well, do you write "real" drill?
  9. In the afternoon I went to get drill pg. 184-191 printed at Office Depot straight from the yea site, new drill mayhaps? sure sounds like it to me...
  10. concert euphs might just flat out be the most "pretty" sounding brass instruments, would be cool to hear a whole section of them, maybe phantom?...
  11. was that a kid in a wheelchair with a concert euph? what a cool idea, nice to see
  12. no, it means none of the rest of the top 3 were there and the judges didn't have to work too hard to rank the corps; might be significant that they might not be in box 5 in a few areas at this point though...
  13. ah cmon brad, nothing was wrong with '87, we even had busses 90% of the time...
  14. "dead or alive," bon jovi. "I've seen a million faces, and I've rocked them all!"
  15. I think, esp. keeping in mind the cadets' well known work ethic, that "choice" here means everybody has a choice to live their life by their own rules. If that means choosing to strive for excellence in everything you do then that's what it means. If it means choosing to be in a drum corps despite being much maligned the previous year then that's what it means. Choosing to play an instrument or dance/spin in an athletics crazed society(no, im not a sports basher, need rehab to stop watching espn) is kind of tough sometimes. Hey, I should write this stuff...
  16. revo, dutch, memphis meeting heads up; crusaders coming out, good stuff! i like that in d 2-3 nobody seems to actually get slotted as much as in d1 and judges are less likely to have a pre-conceived notion of a corps, actually puts them to work! hope dci gets actual recaps up...
  17. no major worries for revo right now, i know it would be irritating for me as a member or staff member to have numbers plucked out of the sky just because we were the only corps in that division. very soon revo and memphis will be going head to head most of the shows the rest of the season so at least that questiong will be resolved.
  18. anbody else notice the 3 10th's pen? think it would have put them ahead of crown, anybody with any info.? coats got 2 10ths and glassmen got 9 10th's, weird to see pens this late
  19. i was at finals in 93, star got a tremendous(positive!) crowd response on a night that had some of the great shows of all time, including all of the top 3
  20. from this fab site dcp's scores/stats page... Blue Devils: 9-1 heads up against cadets/cav Cadets: 3-5 Cavaliers: 3-9 i could spend all day on that page...
  21. check out the head to head stats right here on dcp!
  22. cmon people, so you're saying the shows are FIXED? That's what your saying if your saying the judges base scores on anything besides what happens during the performance. When i've judged i know i have way too much to think about before, during, and after the show to consider any political reason to cheat and give an incorrect score. Judges, esp. field judges, might "miss" significant error but that's why there are so many shows and why it takes 3 nights to crown a champion in front of 24 diff. people, 3 diff. panels. Put up or shut up if you think judges cheat.
