  1. My second favorate show ever. Loved it on the big screen a few years ago. Behind BD 76 and just ahead of SCV 74. Then Cavs 95. Planets.... awesome.
  2. As I've been saying the last few weeks, "I got one thing to say about this years Cubs and Sox, GO BEARS!!!!" Yet again, another year of no baseball in Chicago in October.
  3. Personally I think you'll see and hear a lot of new things from The Green Team in 2010. Reading some of the posts in other topics, it seems others do not feel the same way. Whether it's a "rebuilding" year or not, the boys still got my 200% support. I am sure I speak for most if not all of my fellow alums.
  4. A friend of mine had a son marching in a corps this year and he volunteered several weeks to help. The corps will remain nameless. During a stint in the far southern states, in the middle of July, he witnessed several practices going on for hours with -0-, none, zilch, water breaks. The temps were in the upper 90's with high humidity. My friend was furious and almost pulled his kid off the field. He didn't in an attempt to save his son from embaressment due to an "over protective parent". The staff replied by saying the kids were tough enough and they needed to practice more so they can move up in the rankings. I'll just say this is a lower level corps (trying not to get too detailed) with limited staff. Needless to say, he will NOT be marching this corps next year. Corps like the Cavaliers do have medical staff always on hand and their management ALWAYS stresses the importance of staying hydrated and well fed. Besides, it seems kids practice better and longer when they are well fed and hydrated. I feel DCI needs to take this issue by the hand and provide some guidelines and even access penalties for non-complience. In my opinion, it's not a question of IF it will happen, it's a question of WHEN.
  5. '76 Cavaliers. Let me explain. ..... we were in the basement of the Park Ridge, IL VFW hall for the annual performance to keep the our sponsers happy. 60 horns, G horns, in a room full of old VFW vets. The room was the size of a Lucus Field restroom.... literally. I think we damaged a few eardrums that night.
  6. It seems some of the posters look at a specific aspect of the event rather then the event overall. I tend to look at the over all experience; venue, site in relation to activities, access to hotels, getting to the site/city easily, weather, etc. Personally looking at everything and at the last 30 some years of DCI (sorry OP), Dallas was the worst. Including taking your life in your own hands if you wanted to venture outside of the stadium. Jackson was second worst, although I know you can't control the weather, that humidity was the worst I ever experienced..... including south Florida. I agree Lucus was a bad place to "listen" to drum corps. I loved it because it's only a 3 hour drive from me, we could walk to the venue from the hotel (didn't have to pay for parking), it was close to downtown Indy and all of its restaurants and bars and mall. The stadium was quite nice because of it being so new. You could eat off the bathroom floors.... well, maybe not literally but the whole place was pretty darn clean. My favorate; KC was great although you had to travel a little to get to downtown. Second favorate, Denver. Again, hotels and restaurants near, etc.
  7. Sat in 4 places: 1) Our seats were in the 300 level ON THE 5 YARD LINE!!!!!!!!!!!! Super Premiums!!!!!!!!! Anyway, worst sound ever. Heard reverb after reverb. 2) Sat on the 45 in the 200 level (snuck down). Great sound. 3) Sat on the 10 in the 300 level. Horrible. 4) Sat in the end zone with my 20 month old..... had too. Trust me. Horrible sound. It seems the sound was fine if your seats were between the 45's. Anything outside of that, was not worth the money. Especially since I paid $125.00 for Super Premium finals tickets and was on the 5 yardline.
  8. Agreed on all accounts. Many alums of the Cavaliers had to make some tough decisions. Some would rather take the money they would spend on CAC and donate it. Others, who had the resourses (KEY WORD) did both. I was fortunate enough to be able to do both; march and have it not effect one bit the amount I usually donate to the corps. In fact, I gave a little more considering last year was the first year of the Endowment Fund and our 60th. Everything always comes down to money. If HNC decided to do something more modest, hey I respect their decision. We had to make similar decisions. We chose one way, they chose another. The bottom line is to get alumni who may not be currently involved with the corps, back involved and maybe have a little fun doing it. I am sure the HNC Alumni are enjoying themselves either way.
  9. There you go. Something I've been trying to put down in words for a long time but couldn't think of them. Thanks!
  10. Yep, you're right. I used "they" only to keep my post as short as possible. What I meant by "they" are the members of management who allowed this to happen, created the fraudulant birth certificates and didn't even attempt rectify the situation by continuing to march them out there even though they knew some sh** was coming down.
  11. Without going through every post, I must say I somewhat agree with the OP but with some variations. I have been to 30 of the 36 DCI Championships (marched in 3) and many local Chicago shows..... which are few and far between these days. Why do I go? - To see friends I haven't seen since last year, or in many years - To see incredible talent performing on the field - To support the corps I love - To support an activity that gave me so much - To support an activity that provides an incredible opportunity for todays youth See what's missing? I haven't enjoyed very many shows over the years because of what the judges and corps managers have allowed the shows to become. Am I entertained? Most of time no, but I keep coming back even though ticket prices are steep and crowds are becoming less respectful of other corps and their fans. And to the person who questioned the loudness of hornlines back in the 70's, 60 person hornlines were commonplace back then. Look at the Fan Network archives. Also, the 60 man hornlines of the 70's blow away the 70 man hornlines of today...... purely on loudness, not on quality and intonation.
  12. Only problem with steriods is that kids are influenced and don't know how to properly use them (I was a gym rat for awhile). Bottomline though is that they are illegal. Like weed. Sure, it should be legalized but the fact still remains, it's illegal. You get caught, you pay the price. Same goes for the Muchachos.

  14. So you were OK with all the other corps doing it? Hey, he's doing 'roids, let's do it too? Nope. Don't buy it.
  15. Can't believe I spent half my lunch hour reading this crap. It was good for one thing, off for a nap. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  16. Old School Troopers Madison Cavaliers (60's) New School Troopers Cavaliers SCV
  17. Loudest corps...... EVER! Even corps today with 70 horns can't compete. Too bad they felt they had to cheat to win. They were one of my favorate corps up until then.
  18. The jacket is bought blank as you discribed. Back in the old days they use to stich in your first name on one of the pockets. Other then that, that's it. In fact up until the late 70's you were not allowed to put ANYTHING on your jacket. Things loosened up later when they allowed a rainbow and/or a Standing man patch. Obvioulsy now, DCI patches are allowed. Personally, a FMM jacket is a FMM jacket. Peroid. Now, I am not a jerk about and if someone wants to let their wife, daughter, whoever wear one, I am not going to go postal over it. It is just a jacket but I believe when you march (and initiated) that jacket should mean something more then a piece of cloth with a name on it. There are other jackets the corps sells that others could wear. Maybe I'm just an old fart with old fart views. Oh well. It's just drum corps
  19. I had a hard time with this one only becasue I tried to choose a song the said "drum corps" to me not a song that I loved from one drum corps that they are famous for. e.i. Crown Imperial, Bottle Dance, etc. Mala is it for me. Many corps of played it for a reason. It's an awesome song that kids love playing. Overdone? Probably but I still crank it on the stereo when I am alone in the house without the wife and kid. Battle Hymn, I agree only becasue I am an old fart but I was honored to play it this past summer with CAC888. At first I said "what the hell" but as the season progressed, I loved playing it.
