  1. Unfortunately, their shockingly low score was even more shockingly high, given that they barely made the 30-member threshold needed to participate, have only four horns, and have a show design that's crafted for a significantly larger group, and that's not even close to being achieved. I don't know what happened after the past two seasons, when it looked like they were on the rise; but this year's Racine corps has tumbled.
  2. From some folks closely related to the corps: 1. Only one staff person actually quit, and that person was brought on-board to replace the brass caption head who was fired. Apparently, the reasons for quitting were justifiable because of treatment being received. 2. The corps didn't lose any kids. In-fact they needed to recruit kids as late as a few days before their first show in-order to have the minimum number allowed to take the field. It's truly amazing that after their past two seasons of getting larger and stronger, they've unfortunately taken a major step backwards...and that bums me out as I really thought they were going to be the next big DCI success story.
  3. OK...While I hate going off topic - as has happened in this thread - I do want to chime in on what Boywonder has posted. HOWEVER, first off let me state that I am another of those fans who are really sad to see Music City fold. While I wasn't necessarily a fan of their shows, I still admired how tremendously energetic and enthused their members have been through the corps' brief existence. While I don't know if it will happen, I none-the-less hope that they can somehow right their ship and return to the field. Now, as for Wonderboy = Your passion/opinions are much appreciated...but not based on the state of the activity, today; especially concerning Open Class. First off - DCI does NOT have an interest - vested, or otherwise - in the Open Class. Evidence of this comes from two sources - First, unlike World Class, Open Class does not receive performance money for every show. Rather, they only receive a small compensation for the World Class shows they attend - the amount of which comes nowhere near to the amount World Class corps receive. Second, the Open Class tour is a loosely slapped together schedule that all too often forces corps to travel extreme distances between shows - with 2-3 days between each show. This forces Open Class corps to find and pay for their own housing on the off days - as opposed to the tight knit schedule designed for World Class. I believe you mentioned earlier about feeder corps and talked about Blue Devils B and Vanguard Cadets. Unfortunately, neither of those corps serve as feeder groups. Amongst them both, only about 5-10% of their members are even given consideration for moving up - despite what they publically proclaim. As for corps finances/management - DCI, while having a rigid set of criteria that each new/re-emerging corps must pass before being allowed to compete in DCI sanctioned shows, does not involve themselves in the operation/financial management of any corps. DCI is an organization that provides a circuit of shows for corps to perform at; they are not a governing body to oversee corps operations. Hence, they don't interject themselves in corps internal business. While logic would dictate that DCI foster the growth an expansion of the drum corps activity, logic does not prevail here. Rather, by the admission of the entity known as the G7, the smaller corps are a burden to the "prestige" and "goal" of DCI being a marching major league. The G7 truly would have no problem with DCI being an exclusive entity for only those worthy of participating, ie. the top 7 World Class corps. Hope that helps to clarify some of your statements.
  4. Hey, you can claim that arrangements were made, but I seriously doubt those folks who are the stadium looking for housing got that memo.
  5. Update: just was informed that stranded members found their own transpiration and just arrived at Lucas Oil Stadium...but have no housing.
  6. Thank you, Christina, but as mentioned above, my source is directly involved. So, you might reconsider your post.
  7. Unfortunately, I learned from someone withe first-hand knowledge that several members, along with some staff, we're left stranded in Michigan City because the busses were not going through Indy on the way back home. Instead, they went to Chicago to pick up drivers. Those members were booked on flights home from Indy, but have had to find there own way there. This is not rumor...it's been corroborated by a participant. Not kosher, Revo!
  8. Looks like Forte is closing up shop. Friends on various staffs have told me that kids are contacting them trying to get available spots. I hope it's not too late for those kids to finish their summer somewhere.
  9. I didn't see the DCI.org info on Revo. Also, it was not my intention to restart the controversial commentary that was previously posted on this site. However, it is a legitimate question. I will inquire with the corps, instead of seeing if anyone here has heard. With that, you can close the thread.
  10. I just went onto the DCI website schedule and noticed that Revolution was not on the schedule for this year. Knowing that they were being re-evaluated by DCI, it looks like they didn't pass. Anyone have any 411?
  11. I recently read that Revolution and Forte are both being evaluated this year. However, DCI.org doesn't list either corps on the season schedule, so I don't know if that is any indication of their statuses... Anyone have any information?
  12. Interest...it looks like there's new leadership, too. Well, hopefully they're going to shore things up and come out strong this year. Best of luck, Revo!
  13. Yeah, Sam, but last year they had a considerably larger brass line and had a show that was actually really good. Plus, I know they had a large influx of talent from Texas so I thought they were moving in a great direction. However, I also know that there were apparent problems at the end of the season that created a major issue regarding those Texas kids...hence, I don't think that their not coming out this year doesn't have to do with member numbers, but with how last season supposedly ended. Again, though, there are a bunch of different opinions/views on why they aren't out, so I'll defer to those who are in the know and can actually speak on the subject.
  14. According to the DCI schedule on-line, they weren't on the line-up for the San Diego show (neither was City Sound), so this was the only show they missed.
  15. They are not fielding this year. However, the reason(s) have been interpreted in a bunch of ways, so I can't say for sure.
  16. Thanks for that, Mayra. Great to see Spartans back, Forte making the transition from Memphis, Southern Texas with a corps, and another corps in the Carolinas. Let's see if Spokane & City Sound can join 'em!!!
  17. DCI has put out a list? I don't see that anywhere on DCI.org. Could you point me to that article...I'd love to read it. Thanks...
  18. Any news on Spokane? DCI also has them listed as being an evaluated corps.
  19. The worst pit stop EVER can be summed up in two words: Winnemucca, Nevada!!!
  20. Possible, but remote at best. You don't get a good housekeeping seal of approval one year, then suddenly tank financially unless you weren't quite ready in the first place. I realize that bingo games are becoming less and less lucrative these days, but was revenue so obliterated that it forced Cap Reg to go from Top 12 finalist to inactive in only four months? In this day of economic downturn, financial stability needs to be even more scrutinized than before. A lot of kids joined Cap Reg last year expecting the organization to be on its way back to being a good, stable organization. Obviously, this wasn't the case. However, DCI's evaluators should have detected something wasn't quite right during their process...if not, then either they did a half-baked job just to get another group back onto the field, or Cap Reg didn't reveal all that they should have. Regardless, I truly believe this could all have been avoided if more attention was paid to the overall stability of the corps, rather than prematurely allowing them back to competitive status.
  21. SnowStorm - I'm pretty sure Blackstar is being extremely sarcastic and is, instead, making a commentary on the appearance that DCI only cares about WC Top 12. As for the topic - I feel really bad for the members who put their hearts and trust into the organization, only to be crushed a second time. However, I do lay partial blame on DCI. In order to compete in shows last season, Cap Reg had to go through an evaluation to determine if they were viable to compete in DCI shows. Obviously they had to show they had a stable organization with the resources to make it for just a single season. However, it appears that DCI didn't do a thorough enough review of the organization. I won't speculate on the reasons, but I definitely have to question the methods and criteria DCI used in determining that Cap Reg was ready to successfully return to the field.
  22. An interesting observation, but I actually thought their music last year was some of the best written for them in a long while. And, didn't they have someone new arranging last year? I actually thought it was the brass execution that was suffering. That being said, I do think they could be in top-3 this year...but I also think they need to play with a lot better brass tone quality.
  23. Let me join the chorus...CONGRATS! Both on having an awesome season, and for keeping a sane view on your yearly schedule. I'm sure a lot of folks have tried to coax you into getting to championships quicker than you all have designed...and, kudos for sticking to your plan. Now, GET OUT TO CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! Seriously, though, I'm glad Mystikal is progressing nicely, and hopefully we will see you at championships soon! HERE'S TO A GREAT 2010!!!
  24. WEATHER.COM - National Weather Service has issued a warning for Orlando-area: FUNNEL-CLOUDS POSSIBLE OVER WESTERN ORANGE COUNTY/NORTHWESTERN OSCEOLA - some have been spotted in several areas... Hope everyone is keeping aware!
  25. I just saw this post on the corps' blog... THIS DEFINITELY SOUNDS SERIOUS!!! REVOLUTION BLOG
