  1. Never got my 99 Finalist patch. Will buy for $$$ Anyone interested in selling?
  2. While I've never seen the actual 80 pics of the crowd and the corps, this pic is just as cool. (and by the way makes an even cooler wallpaper) http://southwind.org/photos/album.asp?pic=...couts\1980
  3. A friend sent me this link the other day. You trombone players might like this. Pretty creative way of advertising a recital, and a nice job with the music/editing. http://www-personal.umich.edu/~etackitt/
  4. If you buy the 81 DVD's (correct me if I'm wrong), you can listen to midwest championships, and there is an easter egg for finals recordings. I guess if you hooked up a mini-disc player to the audio out of the DVD, you could get a recording that way.
  5. At Madison, if one made a mistake obvious enough for the staff to see it, then that person would get called out. I remember doing a basics block and an instructor saying something to the effect of "(insert name), these are your toes speaking, lift me up, lift me up". We also had a beacon of suck, which was a hat that made you look like an idiot. It would be equivalent to wearing a dunce hat in rehearsal. I heard in 96 after a free day, where just about everyone was hungover, Stewart ran basics, and ran the corps members into the ground. One last one that I'll share, that I'll never forget is when a staff member pretty much told us that we sucked during one part, then spat in disgust in our general direction. But, when all these things are said and done, you know that the instructor (and everyone else on staff) is your corps brother, and that he wore the uniform before you did, and you respected that. When you let a staff member down, Stewart especially, them telling you that they were "very dissapointed" was heartbreaking. Sometimes words did more damage than physical punishment I think.
  6. http://www.trumpetreview.com You might want to try this site out if you are looking for a trumpet in any key, mutes, mouthpieces, cases...etc... B)
  7. Pressing all three valves should be a good combination. The partials are closer with that combination. Although, the Tasteebros (Scott Englebright & Donny Dyess) say 2/3 combo is best. I'm not sure why. More air always helps.
  8. Taken from the Tower of Power Message Board. I thought it was a good find: "Sorry if this is old news, but a couple months ago, Adolfo Acosta and Mike Bogart appeared in LA for Stratospheric, the 4-day tribute to Maynard Ferguson. They'd both played for MF before joining TOP, of course. Other trumpeters who appeared were Wayne Bergeron, Roger Ingram, Bobby Shew, Scott Englebright, John Chudoba, Don Rader, Bob Summers, Stan Mark, Dennis Noday, Chuck Findley, Rick Baptist, Warren Leuning, Pete DiSiena, and more. Here is a link to a very small sample of the music, including clips with the TOP guys." http://www.fuzzylumkin.com/stratusfear/Str...ericSounds.html Enjoy!
  9. Not giving up on this one. I've been looking for the finals patch (finalist) for some time now. If anyone wants to sell theirs, or has an extra, let me know. I'll pay top dollar. Its the only patch I dont have in my collection. I never went to banquet so never received it. PM me
  10. Thanks Lancer... I misunderstood, but then as the thread went on I ascertained that he meant the "first show", as opposed to the "second, (final product) show."
  11. Interesting. Now that you bring that up, I do remember contacting someone from the Soundmachine about 4 years ago who got me a cassette tape recording of a show that was held in Flint Michigan in 1974. I got it b/c my dentist never had a recording of him marching a show. (My dentist marched with the Ishpeming Blue Notes in 74) Its too bad you cant record at drum corps shows, I sure would have enjoyed to hear us at different points in the season. I can just see myself getting ushered/kicked out of a show with a minidisk recorder and a stealth microphone hidden on my shirt Come to think of it... I DO have a mono recording of Madison's home show in 98 on one of those small little voice recorder tapes. Dan(s) do you guys think if you had the the final product at the begining of the season, you would have repeated in '76?
  12. Hmmm...I havent heard of one. Obviously there are the finals recordings. I'm thinking that would be pretty rare to have a recording of the first show of the season in 76.
  13. There is a way to hear the finals recordings on the 81 DVD. You just have to look for the Easter egg. (or not look for it...hint...hint). As far as the sound goes, I really love hearing all the staff's go crazy. It adds a touch of depth and excitement to the performance. I do agree that the 82 DVD's sound a little better, but I didnt really notice till you brought it up. Maybe in 82 they went stereo? I dunno. I enjoy just about all the performances from both years.
  14. Just kidding...I really liked playing On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss
  15. So there are no junior div. corps that march frenchie lines anymore? Also, there seemed to be more of those instruments around the early 80's. If there is anyone from Spirit around from those years, I'm wondering what the hornline used in terms of hardware in the middle voices. Was it an all frenchie line, or split frechie/mello, or split frenchie/mello/flugel? I wonder how Jim Ott scored those middle horns. They were bad a**.
  16. Sounded a little off. Maybe he was using a Schilke 6a4a. There was a part where he sounded a bit sharp during a sustain. MD&BC sounded good though
  17. Yeah, I just checked corpsreps. Good call. Bridgemen did play it, so did a couple other corps. I wonder if they all were closers though.
  18. "I'll be there"- I was listening to this tune the other day, the Mariah Carey version. (not that I'm a huge fan), but it really reminded me of '80 Spirit of Atlanta closer. I know what you're saying "What the ****?" But I think it could work as a power closer if arranged right.
  19. I know this is a long shot. But, I'm looking for 2 50 yl tix for the San Jose show on Aug. 14 If anyone needs some cash, I'll be glad to throw some your way for that show. (Also, I'm still looking for a 99 finalist patch, and will pay top dollar for that)
  20. Really, I think this is what I paid I paid $500 in 97, $300 in '98 and $250 in '99
  21. How about Send in the Clowns, yesterday....LOUD!!!!!!!
  22. Thats cool I think I remember Chumpol. Pit guy right?
  23. I agree about 90. I remember the vets from my day talking about that low brass line from 90.
  24. First place: Watching night after night the fans go crazy for your corps performance. A second runner up: I think in 97 when we decided to put the long chord in during the finale, (with Bob Guinn pulling out the flag and taking a picture). Before that happened I thought to myself "this is going to be a part of drum corps history". That was pretty exciting. I cried myself off the field that night.
