  1. She is a highly qualified adjudicator. Seems to me your preferred style is the issue here...not the judge in question. You don't like her opinion because it doesn't align with your. BD has a very broad range of skills. Don't forget....dance is also part of the vocabulary. It certainly seems BD checks that particular box more than most.
  2. These sub caption numbers mean very little at this stage of the game. It's just manipulating numbers to get to a .1 or .2 spread. That's about it. Don't read too much into it.
  3. Because they demonstrate more variety in skills through time...not just drill, not just body, not just speed, not just choreography. People get so caught up in more drill, more drill. Variety is the reason they are winning. And the color guard has skills no other guard has. Start value, it's just like gymnastics.
  4. The judges were basically spot on tonight. Captions are where they should be....spreads may be a little compressed in some areas and a little too big in others, but the judges nailed it. Judging trends come and go, but BD may have helped their cause tonight by going on first and maybe slowing the SCV push that seemed to be prevalent for a few days. Bluecoast just seemed to settle into that 4th spot. Crowd seemed a bit lukewarm to SCV following BD...which could bode well for BD as well. Amazing teams for sure.
  5. Bloo looks simple after SCV, which looks simple after BD........SCV seemed flat compared to BD. Bloo had a lot of energy, but compared to the other 2....they just look thin. All great music books. SCV and Bloo are dirty compared to BD.
  6. I have tried for years and years to get rid of them. I was successful two seasons ago, but it returned last year. My only reason for the proposal is to level the playing field. If WGI is going to promote, then I felt it was necessary to police those guards that move down after successful seasons in a particular class. I always go back to Colonial HS. After winning A Class, they lost literally 90% of their members and STILL had to compete in Scholastic Open the following year. We all know how that played out. As long as there is end of season promotion, then I think this this is fair. There is an appeal for both, so it really should not have a huge negative impact on those programs that really have a hardship. That is up to the Steering Committee, but at least there is an option.
  7. This is Randy Nelson. Actually, I am not upset about anyone getting medals in any class. Yay for them all!! Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have been opposed to ALL end of the season promotions since the day they started. I have voted no without exception...once actually standing on a chair! My reason for the proposal is simple: If WGI is going to promote guards at the end of season based on success, then something needs to be done to keep those guards that class hop in check as well. If it was up to me, there would NO END OF THE SEASON PROMOTIONS OF ANY KIND. All of the arguments about losing members, staff, etc.....can be said for those that are forced promoted each year as well. Should make for an interesting debate at the meeting this weekend.
  8. This has really nothing to do with the Fan Network....it has to do with WGI taking a stand and basically saying that simulating an execution style killing is not an acceptable choice for an activity that is primarily performed in High School gymnasiums across the country. I have the highest respect for every individual that is currently creating shows for all of us to enjoy. Sometimes, we get ahead of ourselves and need a little reality check. The bottom line is this.....if the execution that is portrayed in their show was part of a movie, the movie would be given an R Rating, which means that most of our activity could not go see it without parental consent. We just witnessed yet another horrific school shooting this week. Do we really want to see even a fake killing in our activity? And yes I know they are not "really" killing someone. They don't "really" kill people in movies either. And yes I know it's history. Union HS 1988 is powerful and somewhat disturbing, but no one died!! Fantasia is a fantastic color guard and I am sure their creative team will come up with an even more powerful setting for their ending. Sometimes, what we don't see is way more powerful than what we do. Good luck to all of the teams this weekend!!
  9. Absolutely!! I just wanted to point out that educators are guilty by accusation. Even those that are cleared still have career issues to deal with.
  10. Sometimes they walk around like nothing happened.....because.....nothing happened. They make choices for the good of the school or corps or guard. These decisions to retire or move on are not always an indication of their guilt. Sometimes even the innocent can't fight the system. I hope you never have to deal with the justice system in a situation where you were falsely accused of something. It can be devastating on many levels. I am not condoning the actions of anyone that makes bad decisions involving young people. Just remember.....all is takes to ruin a good teacher is an accusation from a disgruntled student or parent. Happens everyday somewhere.
  11. Why don't you let the Premonition staff make their own creative decisions? Shame on YOU for making such comments with the comfort of anonymity.
  12. Bashing Opus 10......Really?? Seriously?? I have no idea who you are, but between your Opus 10 and Premonition post, you obviously think it should be all about what you like and what you don't like. Opus 10 was breathtaking on Saturday. They require you to pay attention and get above the Saturday morning cartoon mentality that seems to be dominating this forum these days. Their musicality and interpretation was spot on. Sure....it's not everyone's cup of tea.....but then again....where in the judges criteria are the words....."not my cup of tea"??? Congratulations to the members of Opus 10....fantastic job!!
  13. For the record....Jill and Robby are the most removed instructors in the business when it comes to the WGI political world you refer to in your post. It has been very obvious this season, that a small group of people have been bashing Premonition on this forum. Often times it comes across as a backhanded bashing of NEI. I think the video of Premonition will speak volumes about their place in finals. Focus, Clarity and Intent are all criteria on the judges sheets. No where can I find the bashing and personal comments that I have seen on this forum. At any rate, congratulations to the members of Premonition.
  14. Just to clarify...I was in no way bashing Fahrenheit...or any other team. It just seems like a LOT of people are disappointed they are not scoring better. I mentioned the slow and elegant/fast and loud as extremes in design choices. I don't care....pick one...or something in between. Just make it good!! Are there some kind of WGI secrets that relates to people liking Fahrenheit?? Did I miss something here?
  15. There certainly seems to be an abnormal amount of posting about how wonderful Fahrenheit is this year. With the exception of the judges, which have pretty much been consistent all year, it seems to be everyone's favorite guard of the season. As for me, I like to see quality....whether it's fast and loud, or slow and elegant.....doesn't matter....just make it good. Hope everyone has a safe trip to the big dance. The staff and performers have worked hard all season....let's hope EVERY guard has it's best run through in Dayton when it matters the most!!
  16. I too was at the Southeastern Championships and thought many shows have shown tremendous growth. Congrats to all of the teams as they prepare for the big dance in two weeks. It never ceases to amaze me when people criticize the creative choices of others. I have to assume these people are all successful designers of long term nationally competitive units or perhaps judges on SYTYCD....or maybe even a successful choreographer in a major broadway musical. We all have our preferences, but the lack of respect for some of the most discussed guards on this forum is disturbing.
  17. Stephanie Furniss....who also did a fantastic job at the Colts this summer as Visual Caption head!
  18. I have to say that the IW class was filled with well crafted shows from all of the competitors. I guess we all have our own personal bias when it comes to taste in shows. Good luck to ALL the IW teams in Dayton!
  19. I do find it interesting that not all of people that voted for Phantom or Crown, voted for the rest of the Corps. Just an observation.
