  1. I understand the need to limit the camera angles and alternate audio options on this initial release, but if Blu-Ray takes of for DCI, will these features be available in future releases? Also is there any chance of getting previous years on Blu-Ray in the future or is the source material simply not available at any better resolution than what we have on the DVDs?
  2. One thing I noticed regarding the audio was that I had to turn it up a LOT more than any of the finals DVDs that I have to get the same volume. Once I got there though, the sound was really good other than a few spots where the low end synthesizer seemed to overpower to corps. But this might just be the way it sounded on finals nigh. Since I was not there I can not say if it is a product of the recording or just poor balancing issues. It was surprising though to hear something I am more used to hearing from a high school band without tubas.....
  3. Just a quick comment on the open first position (heels together toes apart) This position makes for a more uniform appearance in the legs. When you stand with your feet together toes pointing straight ahead some people have gaps that open up between their legs. Spreading the toes apart helps to close those gaps making for a more uniform appearance.
  4. I just got home and I would like to say a special thanks to the troopers for inviting me into the center of their horn warm up. A truly wonderful experience I will never forget.
  5. Awesome. Thanks for the fast reply. Do you know if they are concentrated in one part of the park or are they all spread around it? Looking at the map it looks like a pretty large area.
  6. I am planning on taking the family to watch corps warm up Saturday. Does anyone know where I will need to go? Are they just warming up around the stadium or are they warming up off site? Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
  7. I took the kids to watch Coraline in 3d.... and I have to say it was simply amazing. Much better than anything I have ever seen which includes several things at Disney Having said that though.... I see no point in bringing this to DCI..... Blue Ray....yea we need that would love to have finals in HD
  8. Thanks I am pretty sure I am just going to get the audition DVD and info. That seems like the best source so far. And thanks everyone else for the info. I will definitely keep it in mind and if anyone else has an idea I will appreciate it.
  9. My sons marching band is going to be marching cymbals for the first time. We are wanting to emulate the SCV style. Does anyone here know if there is a word document or anything that would describe /instruct their style? I am really looking for just the basics and an important part is the nomenclature. I am sure I could just watch the videos and make up my own names, but I would feel much more comfortable instructing them in the proper terminology.
  10. your right. I was not being sarcastic. I really thought it was from a WGI Show or something. I thought the battery parts were actually pretty well integrated.... but I am obviously no pro... just a fan and old bandie. Listening to that does make me want to hear some more. I know it would be a little late, but there is some good music in that movie.
  11. Really??? with those drum parts in the background??? I figured it was some WGI arrangement.
  12. I just want to know where that lion king music is from would like to hear more of that.
  13. wow thanks a lot for the great info everyone. Now I have some options to discuss with my fellow instructors. thanks again for the great info.
  14. Have you ever recovered drums? Not sure what I would use, but I think it could be done.
  15. I am working with my sons marching drum line and we have been replacing the heads and cleaning up the drums for the coming shows this season. We have aproximately 7 year old Pearl Championship Maple drums with the standard white wrap covering. Over the years the white has turned yellow and we have tried everything I can think of including super solvent, purple power, windex, 409, etc.... and nothing will take the yellow off of these drums, do any of you have a suggestion? Thanks for any help you can give me.
  16. Isnt there a patch or something that will make your older version of software X able to open files from the newer version of software Y
  17. I always liked the look of taping the stick from end to end instead of wrapping it around the stick like a candy cane. Taping lengthwise just gives a cleaner look (the wider the tap the better because it means fewer seams)
  18. Being involved in marching band I see this form of performance order all the time. I also see a lot of complaining about scores being off "due to performance order". Many people believe that having the bands/corps perform in order gives the judges an advantage in giving accurate numbers, at least numbers that place the units in the correct placement order. The most common argument is that two groups that score close together should be judged side by side. Having a Much lower or higher scoring group perform between them makes it more difficult on the judges and makes the numbers/placements less accurate.
  19. I wasnt there.... what all did they play for the encore? just the show?
  20. I agree. I tell them it is like professional marching band only a lot better and the members dont get paid. They usually then say , "oh you mean like college marching band" To which I reply, "well, A WHOLE lot better than college marching band" Then I try to show them a DVD
  21. They have done Phantom of the Opera twice so far right???? I mean if you are looking for something that they have already done then I would be looking for something they have done twice with next year being the third time. But I really dont think that is what the title is going to suggest.
  22. I really like the idea of them filming in 16x9 aspect ratio. The hi def thing would be nice eventually, but not really wide spread enough right now, and besides until they release the new dvd format you would not see any improvement except for the original broadcast. I am not sure, but I think they use the same lens when filming wide screen or full screen, it is just how they crop the image in editing. I know that they cut off the sides of wide screen footage to make it full screen on movies though.
