  1. Cavies guard in 2002? I think they deserved their caption, but can you honestly watch the last 10 seconds of the show (try it from high cam) and tell me that it deserved a perfect score? There was massive phasing.
  2. 13th for the week on ESPN2 is pretty dang impressive...for those of you who seem underwhelmed, consider that there are hundreds of programs on ESPN2 each week...
  3. well, along those lines i would argue that based on '00 and especially '01 the Cavaliers would be taken out of the running as well. '02 and beyond has been very, very strong and consistent for them though. Their balance, blend, and tone quality have been amazing...BUT i do agree with others that i would like to hear more power and see them push their limits up a notch or two. I think thats why when a "best sound" thread pops up I have to mention the Cavaliers, but when a "favorite brassline" thread pops up they dont usually make my list.
  4. Cadets...i just love their low brass sound overall and i thought the impact points in the show were fantastic. honorable mention to the Bluecoats who put out what i believe to be their best line ever. Cavies and PR were as solid as you would expect too.
  5. hm, while the Cavies have owned it lately (especially 01-04), id say in terms of pure difficulty id give the all time nod tothe Cadets...so many great years come to mind. 92, 93, 97, 98, 99, 00... SCV 98-00, 02-04 would also be high up on my list BD 00 did a great job with different tempos, definitely a BD visual program that i really love
  6. amen it was an all-time great show IMO. It was new and fresh yet still very appealing to the crowd...i think with as much intensity as that show packed it was impossible to not be drawn in! Talk about ballsy horn/drumlines and an intense visual program...
  7. You know, the more ive been listening to the CD's the more i am inclined to say that the Cadets '05 hornline is the best in many years, including greats like Cadets '01 and Cavies '02...probably since PR '96 i would say. Their sound was just phenomenal, i love it. And i agree, i think that while 2002 was cleaner and possibly more "groundbreaking," in terms of just pure, raw drum corps and entertainment ill take 2000.
  8. im with you, its my least favorite championship show. i would have had it in 3rd personally....way, way, WAY too much scatter drill. PR of course put out an amazing show, and i thought the Cadets did quite well too....they deserved their visual and CG captions.
  9. i went with 1991....everyone in the top 6 had very different yet completely freakin awesome shows. Some good shows after that too. honorable mention: 1990...Star alone! 1992...love the Cadets b**bs 1997...the entire top 6 were rockin again
  10. word...i think that show got hosed big time. i still think it was 3rd at worst, and i could make a solid case for 2nd. I dont know if it could ever have overtaken Cavies though. SCV 2000...great finals performance, if they could have harnessed that emotion with a little more cleanliness they could have taken it from both Cavies and Cadets. somebody mentioned Cadets 92, but i dont think they needed another week. They caught fire and peaked just at the right time, and IMO should have edged the Cavies (they had a great show too, debatable either way).
  11. i was wondering the same thing...maybe he is pulling double duty. i wouldnt mind seeing him take over at Magic though, i personally dont really like what he did to the SCV marching style, and they have pretty much stayed at the same level in visual as before he took over.
  12. both Blue Knights 02 and 03 are high on my list
  13. just got them yesterday... 1. Cadets 2. SCV 3. Madison 4. Bluecoats 5. Crown
  14. couldnt have said it any better. i agree that the pit is too loud at times, but honestly im ok with that...i think the 95-98 CD's have desensitized me and made me grateful for what we have! I must say that i love how clear the brass and percussion sound is...fantastic job on that.
  15. are we talking '05 or all time? whenever i hear "underrated brasslines" the first one to pop into my head is Cadets 2001....3rd place? i DONT think so.
  16. alone? #### no! SCV from the late 90's till 2004 was my favorite stretch of shows by any corps ever. So many great pieces....Grohg in 98, the Barber symphony in 99, the Bartok pieces in 00, Trivandrum and the Organ Symphony in 02, Orawa in 03...mmmmm....they took so called "obscure" music and really made me a fan with it.
  17. you know...most of the time on lists like these my top 3 or top 5 changes with each new season of additional shows and with whichever mood i just happen to be in that day, but there is only one show that has been at the top of every single list... SCV 2000
  18. Cadets may not have had the "wow" moves that the Cavies typically have....but what i feel that the Cadets do extremely well (and is even more intriguing and impressive to me personally than wow moves) is the pacing of the drill. I would rate this year's visual program as one of my favorites in terms of varying speeds of form evolution/ half time vs. double time in the feet/ overall flow/ etc....i thought it was fantastic. In fact, thats probably the first aspect of the show that really made me say "wow" as i watched it. I thought it represented the music quite well.
  19. good lord... not to say that the Cavies percussion is weak by any means, but it has been one of the few captions they havent been dominant in...Cassela should change that. this is just plain scary how good it could be!
  20. yes! its good to see the gang gathering again. the 2000 season had a very slow start. I first saw the show in SoCal in June and it was...um...well...not a 4th place show. They came out of the gates incomplete and it was not very clean. They did lose at least one show to the Glassmen, possibly more, i cant remember. BUT i still remember loving the show at the time, despite its flaws. As the season progressed they tweaked and tweaked the show and really cleaned it up quite a bit to jump from a 6-8 placing to a solid 4th...and without a doubt became my favorite show of all time!
  21. aw i knew i could count on someone to include SCV 2000 :) thats definitely on my list, along with PR 2003 and Star 1990
  22. that was actually 2002 when Seattle made finals. IMO an underrated show (i loved it!) and yes...the mellos were hot
  23. Do you understand that time changes things? Many factors already discussed (ie, fewer corps, and regionals where you can catch the entire top 21) could have just as much an effect. How many companies still use "market research" from 1981? None. Numbers may be down since 1981, but the fact is that attendance numbers have been growing over the past 5 years.
