Yeah well we folded during the 76 season or more then likely I would've aged out with the Glassmen, BUT it was alot of fun & I wouldn't have traded it for anything.... I know it wasn't alot of years but it was what it was....

Now that's some serious "puckering" going on there, kinda like a needle wouldn't fit!!!! ....

Well, I'm a nOOb, (high number on DCP) a Bando (Clay H.S. Oregon Oh.73-74) & joined the Glassmen after the 74 season, & marched 75/76 seasons, & what shock going from a HS drumline to trying out for the Glassmen, talk about a dose of reality.... So, where do I stand?? BTW Our band director at Clay HS was extermely supportive of drum corps, his attitudewas anywhere we could get a decent musical education was fine with him.... :satisfied:BTW I would've loved to have been in that restroom when Phantom Regiments DM saw those corps jackets on those HS kids, I bet that had a few pucker moments... Only people that wore a Glassmen jacket other then members or alums were family, or girlfiends, you had to EARN that jacket....

Yep, if a member was afraid to work thier tail off & break a GOOD sweat for the duration of the rehearsal you weren't doing it right, & you weren't a member of the Glassmen very long... We had some HS band kids that tried to coast but didn't make it, didn't have the heart....

How's this for positive reinforcement.... Back in 75 I marched with the Glassmen when we were a "Class A" corps... We had a really good drumline that was competitive with "Open" class corps, & the show before Marion Oh.(US Open anybody remember that???) our drumline had a TERRIBLE performance, I think it may have been American Intl. Open, not sure, BUT at any rate our drum instructor/arranger Mark Petty was less then impressed with us, & we weren't very happy with ourselves, so before we had our first rehearsal in Marion we took a "field trip",as in we marched maybe a mile playing our streetbeat, till we came to a parking lot, where the Madison Scouts drumline was getting ready to warmup... He had us put our equipment down, take a knee, & had us listen & watch while they rehearsed... After we watched & listened, he told us, "Sound & look like that, & you'll be GOOD..." We then marched back down to the school where we were staying & rehearsed our tails OFF, & we pushed ourselves!!!! I don't remember if we took top drums in "Class A" in Marion, but I do know we did in Class A in Philly.... IMHO this method worked better then any butt chewing.... BTW I can't remember any of doing mandatory push ups & running, we just rehearsed,rehearsed,rehearsed, & rehearsed some more till you didn't think you could move, then we did it some more, our director Bill Ellis had an expression when things were dirty & people were fouling up big time, it was "Back To The Peapatch" & we spent alot of time heading back there....

HEY!!!! Who added "ice Castles" to a pic of me first thing in the morning, before I've had my coffee???? Seriously, I'd love to see "Ice Castles" added to a future Scouts show, along with "Ballet In Brass"....

I just disregard the bashing, rude remarks, & personall attacks, I come here to try & stay current, good or bad IMHO on the activity....

Oh yeah!!! I was fortunate enough to see this LIVE in Philly with some friends from the Glassmen!!!! Arguably this is ONE of the BEST shows ever!!!! You're abosutely right dc oldtimer DrumCorps just isn't the same today, that's why I enjoyed the Scouts 2020 show so much!!!!

Yessir.... This is exactly the way I feel about this rude, childish, terrible behaviour, yeah I'm old school, but I was raised that you don't exhibit this type of behaviour, especially to a group of young folks that are actually doing something constructive with thier time ....

I agree with bawker 100% here....Having had a broken tib/fib from a bike wreck I've got a really good idea how how much pain he was in, that is one TOUGH dedicated young man, truth be told I'm surprised he didn't pass out... My thoughts & prayers go out to him & the bus driver that was injured trying to help him, & a big thank you goes out to the judge that did the RIGHT THING by helping him off the field...

Yep the hot fudge sundae gets my vote too.... That's a fantstic comparison....

Yeah I feel pretty much the same... I've NEVER had a problem with the kids, Hey I admire them, I could never march the shows they do nowadays, on my best day, in my prime... Questioning the individual corps management/leadership, maybe, probably, but the kids, NEVER....

WOW.... Having seen the 2010 show on a certain video sight, that's MY impression.... I had the pleasure & privilidge of seeing the 75 show live several times (U.S Open, DCI in Philly), & that was & allways will be my favorite all time performance... As far as I'm concerned this one is right up there.... Yeah I'm a dinosuar that LOVES old school drum corps, & this has TONS of that, I mean what's better then "Slaughter" & "Rhapsody In Blue", hey dinosaurs like me love that kinda stuff, but it also has plenty of the "New" stuff to keep todays purists happy... I hope above hope that they make finals so the fans can experience a "True" Drum corps performance, they'll LOVE it... But hey this is only my opinion, but I know what I like, & this is IT.... Good Luck Scouts!!!!

Yeah I'm a dinosuar, (53) & Yeah Dean, I would love to see a video of our 75 performance (Glassmen)at finals in Philly, that was arguably the best performance our drumline had all season...So if anybody has vid of the 75 ClassA/All Girls Finals cut loose with it!!!! But you're absolutely correct , the Class A corps of the BITD get no love.... I mean besides some of us in this thread , whoever heard of The Marquis, Wausau Story, Greece Cadets, Charioteers, Saganaires, Dutch Boy Cadets, or Blue Notes, or even the Class A Glassmen?? Yeah folks they weren't allways Div1/OpenClass/WC.... These were some GREAT corps!!!! But this is just my opinion, so it probably doesn't count for much, but it is what it is....

Yeah it's a shame about the 76 Glassmen not being able to compete.... I remember really being dissapointed after the GREAT season we had in 75....

Thanks Dean!!!! That would be me carrying the "BIG" bass, "Big Bertha"!!!! Oh to be that young & in that kind of shape again!!!! Now my knees go snap crackle & pop when I get up in the morning....

Back in 75 we had a 20 ft. GMC or Ford cabover boxtruck... That hauled EVERYTHING, & as best as I can recall that's the only vehicle we had that didn't need to be push started....

I lost track of the numberof times we had to push those "Bluebirds" we had back in 75.... If I remember correctly a clutch let loose in when we were trying to get to a show in Oswego (?) NY same year.... I do recall that it was raining cats & dogs....

Yep I remember Andre, Chris Mason, Bob Brady, Larry Lurch, Ken Mazur.... I think Jim Easton Went to Oakland too didn't he???? Got anymore pics from 75 Dean????

1975 for sure!!!! With 74 right behind it.... I was reintroduced to drum corps at the Key To The Sea in 74, & I marched Glassmen in 75.... :)

If my memory serves me correctly, we(the 75 Glassmen) played "Hill Where The Lord Hides".... :)
