It's fine for you to say that is the way it strikes you. The issue I have is that several posters this year have said something like 'Crown is playing a lot of notes just for the sake of playing them.' In addition to arrogantly suggesting they can speak for what is universally entertaining, they are essentially accusing Crown of sacrificing entertainment for whatever selfish reason they ascribe to them. I can only say that if all these things are true, Crown has entertained the heck out of me this year, apparently quite by accident.

Well that was a whopper of a post.

I guess I'm just plain wrong, then, to be so entertained and moved by it.

That's 6 corps. Maybe that's what gives them the edge.

Yeah I don't think ###### off lends itself well to the music in question. But maybe others get something very different out of Copland than I do.

Same here on what the issues are and or not, but I think chris is just trying to understand our perspective and explain his, which isn't a bad thing.

To me it is mostly about not feeling any emotion from their performance of the music. Whether that is arrangement, direction or performance style I couldn't say. I know it is not the composer, though, because I have connected emotionally with much of this music before, including in other Cadets shows. I'm not trying to convince anyone who likes it that they shouldn't, just trying to explain why I and maybe some others are not reacting all that positively. So maybe they won't all be presumed to be Cadets haters, America haters, and so forth.

Fun is exactly what we were having.

You would have to ask George. He is the one that dropped them to fifth after scoring them higher than crown. But Brasso's explanation seems plausible.

No. Wish I had the opportunity to see them all live this year. Wish I was in Atlanta right now. It is hard to believe it would make THAT much difference to what I am speaking of though. And the audiences that are seeing it live don't seem to be exactly eating it up so.... Look, if the show is connecting with some people emotionally I think that is great. The more the better for DCI. I would certainly never tell them they are wrong. Different people connect with different things. But suffice it to say I was relieved to hear someone else say what I was feeling. Or not feeling, as the case may be.

. This. is. exactly. the. way. it. strikes. me. I was really looking forward to this show, as I love Copland and normally love Cadets beautiful arrangements. But it just doesn't connect with me emotionally. I wonder if that isn't mostly the reason it is not doing especially well with the crowds, all unrepresentative comments and defensive accusations on DCP aside.

They know how to make fun of things though, and are not terribly restrained on matters that others would shy away from due to controversy or bad taste. That's where I was coming from.
