  1. I have been a bass player for 46 years. (Electric and upright). With the right amplifier and supporting sound system: bass dumps, P.A. amps, full range speakers and a good soundman, you don't even NEED contras on the field. All you need to achieve the "pedal tones" of a contra (or tuba), is a five string electric bass. That concerns me. How many folks will eventually be replaced by amplified instruments?
  2. The question in MY mind is how do we get that chicken on the international space station and safely returned to us?
  3. I joined Westshoremen in 1991. I was in Steel City for the 1990 season.
  4. When I retire in 17 months, I'm going on the Hall of Fame cruise. Yes, I'm bringing Freddie along. Tony: Make him a life jacket, just in case.
  5. An hour and a half from my driveway!* My God, I would be thrilled. One tank of gas for the entire weekend. * Re: Columbus Ohio,Crew stadium
  6. Tom is on the "red eye" to Heathrow, talking to a rubber chicken. It don't seem right, somehow. LOL!
  7. I'll call you tomorrow. I didn't call today because it's football day and everyone but me is watching it. I hate football. I hate all sports. even hacky sack. :)
  8. I did not recognize Tom at the DCA managers meeting. You walked right up to me and made me guess who! Ya'look good, my friend! That chicken gets around for sure! Don't forget to introduce him to Kidsgrove and tell them the story of his first "flight", back in 1980!
  9. Cincinnati Tradition recieved blue dogtags this season inscribed with: "CTX2".
  10. I know where I went after 1996. I went home and bought a new car. One without 110,000 miles on the odometer.
  11. I won't complain one bit about a northeast corps not willing to travel out of their region. We ALL have to be fiscally responsible, if we are to survive. That also means the Northeast corps, not just the midwest, south and westcoast corps. Cincinnati Tradition travelled only as far as it's budget allowed, this season. When we can afford to, we will add another DCA show to our scedule. Untill that time, we will continue to build our program, so that we can become an effective and contributing member of the DCA Central region. You can't spend money you don't have. Simple as that.
  12. It was the highlight of my 1989 season with Steel City.
  13. The highest point in Hamilton County, Cincinnati Ohio: "Mt Rumpke". A landfill. * * I reside in Cincinnati
  14. Wait till Bridgeport gets a load of Kidsgrove! They have the show to do the job!
  15. I'm here too, Fran. polishing boots. Because I have a life. Really.
  16. Steel City Ambassadors had much the same experience In Buffalo, when they played at the 1990 DCI finals. Westshoremen as well, in 1996 in Orlando. Empire Statesmen took things to a new level this season, in promoting DCA to the DCI crowd. Well Done!
  17. There's only a couple of "short bus passengers" I know of and they aren't on here. Everyone else seems to me to be quite knowlegeable and articulate. Most of them have way more experience than I do,in evaluating a corps ability to succeed. I'm gonna learn from them. Seems the smart thing to do. Thanx for the free pass, Ed. I don't relish the thought of wearing polyester slacks and driving with the turn signal on. I'd rather go to my grave in black leather and jeans. Or my kilt.
  18. Hey Ed: Can I put off this "need to grow up thing" for a little while longer? I'm 60 and I'm in no particular hurry.
  19. If anyone around these forums notices such things: I rarely comment here, on a corps performance. That is because I don't get to DCA shows as much as I did in my competative days. This particular season for instance, I have seen only the Kilties, Govenaires, Minn Brass, C.V., Tampa Bay Thunder and Shenendoah Sound. I prefer to actually SEE a corps before I comment on their quality. There are SO many variables to take into consideration, before one can honestly evaluate a corps ability to perform. Lets take Tampa Bay Thunder as an example. I saw them live, from the end zone, at the Douglasville show. They are balanced in all sections, members-wise. A full sized corps, from what I could see. I also saw them rehearse, during the day. They need to clean their show. The members rehearse well. Their work ethic was apparent. They will have no problem cleaning their show, in my opinion. I can say this because I was there to witness first hand, how they rehearse. You can't get that kind of information from a video of a corps performance.
