  1. I don't think it will have any impact. These aren't exactly two noob corps we're talking about there, they've been around the activity longer then almost every other corps out there. Sometimes designs are just flat out misses, happens to every corps at one time or another. The question is what changes are made to improve the product the next season, especially when it comes to a corps that's been at the top of the activity as long as the Cavaliers have.
  2. Feels good man. Been a while since we've walked these grounds competitively.
  3. Marshall (Joan C. Edwards stadium) Great place to perform. WVU's stadium as well (Mountaineer Field) is excellent, would be nice if DCI went (came back?) to that one eventually. But the Joan is a great place for a show. Not a fan of Huntington itself but that stadium is great for a DCI event.
  4. Mile High Stadium 1.0 Mile High Stadium 2.0 Camp Randall Death Valley (LSU) Mountaineer Field (non-DCI, performed there with the WVU band) Franklin Field (total pain to park there as a fan though) Sun Bowl Stadium J Birney Crum Salem Va NightBeat (Charlotte) - can't think of the stadium name Roy Stewart Stadium (Murray State) Floyd Stadium (MTSU) Joan C. Edwards Stadium Kidd Brewer Stadium (App State, non-DCI, performed there in HS multiple times)
  5. East: 27th Lancers, Bridgemen South: Suncoast Sound, Tarheel Sun West: Anaheim Kingsmen, Freelancers Midwest: Star of Indiana, Royal-Aires Canada: Oakland Crusaders, Academie Musicale International: Yamato
  6. Only if there are two of them... and a microphone.
  7. other then the home team (Spirit): Blue Knights Madison Scouts Carolina Crown Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, The Cadets, and Spirit of Atlanta would round out my CD if I were going to make one.
  8. Hey Kevin, if you can get a pic of Spirit making the Maltese Cross it would be much appreciated.
  9. someone probably beat me to it, but DCI.org says it will be available around 10:25 on the homepage.
  10. Star of Indiana 1991: Roman Images 1992: Rome Censored, a tribute to Caligula Spirit of Atlanta 2009: Live! In Concert 2010: This is a recording 2011: Corps on hiatus due to lawsuits by the RIAA involving illegal downloads and unauthorized file sharing.
  11. The combination of SCV and Cavaliers shows are enough to start the rapture as the Green Machine finishes up. Being Devils, BD's corps is still intact and blows the house down with their performance. On the other hand, the Cadets, losing half the corps in some sort of bizarre miscalculation by the almighty, can only perform with the demons. The execution is great but with just the demons performing the show doesn't make much sense and they drop a full point to finish 3rd.
  12. Having seen it now both in the theater and live I agree with this. That said, the ending was underwhelming to me regardless of setting and that has nothing to do with performance, everything to do with writing. But the rest of the show? fantastic.
  13. Definitely food for thought. Though I will say, with corps like the Cadets, Cavaliers, SCV, BD, etc. the Shako/Ausie/whathaveyou is a big part of their identity as a corps to me. I'm open to the idea of the entire corps being in something a good bit more breathable then a corps uniform, lids and all. Think Blast! type outfits for the corps proper in that case. But still it's for the most part marching around the field more then anything else. It's a concept that I could get behind though, I'd love to see it tried with a show at some point, if only for a few shows.
  14. Even if they don't, we have every reason to be excited right now. The corps is red hot right now and climbing fast. Just keep on cleaning, keep improving the show, and get back where they belong in finals.
  15. Problem with that line of thought is that it weighs scores with different panels. That's not to say that you can't do it, but it's far more accurate to look at the margins between different corps at various shows when there is no head to head picture available, as is the case right now. As such say corps X and corps Y haven't gone head to head with eachother, but both have competed recently with the Boston Crusaders. Corps X might score a 70 and be .9 behind the Crusaders, while corps Y a day later might have scored a 71 but been 1.4 behind the Crusaders. While they're half a point higher in highest score they're also a half point behind in differential in the matchup vs Boston. I haven't bothered looking at head to head and relative scores yet anyway as frankly it's way too early and we've seen things change drastically the past few years once judging moves to the full panel.

  17. Any home show with a young corps is recipe for a meltdown. I'll leave it at that.
  18. Merry Christmas everyone, from the Old North State

  19. Spirit and Crown had a pretty vicious rivalry back around 2001 and 02, but that's no longer much of one. I can imagine a rivalry with Glassmen and BK around 04 and 05.
  20. Happens a lot actually, though it happened more often when there were more corps. In my ageout year both Spirit and Glassmen played October. edit: thinking about it, pretty sure Crossmen and BD both played Blue Rondo a la Turk that year as well
  21. 1: Be as sound in your fundamentals as possible. The staff will notice and it's a lot easier for them to work with a player that has as solid a foundation as possible. 2: Be friendly and relaxed. A decent part of how you do is you interact with others between blocks. Someone who seems like a deer in the headlights when interacting with anyone is going to stand out and isn't going to last much longer then the first audition. 3: Be willing to learn. The notebook recommendation above is one of the better ones I've seen around here. If you can fix specific issues that the staff gives you to work on between camps then it's going to go a long way in helping you land the spot.
