  1. I was talking to a few of the members after the recent camp about the aggressive vibe of the music this year. One said that this is what it would sound like if the Demons had won... :)
  2. nope...the person I spoke with thought that what Surf did was great and that they got a raw deal from the judges... and...there was no mention of their "financial draw", whatever that is... this person simply was stating what is: at 10am on Thursday of Championship Week there is almost no one in the stadium watching... Surf, to their credit, gave people a reason to show up early and watch them...
  3. People will continue to "buy" the best cars...because people are not stupid... The "lesser" or "lower" cars need to be something special to get the buyer's attention. See: Jersey Surf 2012 DCI would LOVE to promote the hell out of the "lesser and lower" corps if they entertained like Surf did this past summer...it makes the overall product stronger. Like a top 5 Director said to me: "everyone loves the smaller corps...but nobody wants to pay to see them"... if they entertained the audience like Surf did, IMAGINE what could happen...
  4. This is an important discussion... There are only a handful of World-Class drum corps with the financial sustainability to keep themselves on the field beyond one year. The DCI touring model is literally choking many drum corps' to death. As much as I love the idea of having all the corps' embark on a full US summer tour, the amount of money needed to do so is simply too high for most. Drum corps is at a tipping point. The entire competitive structure must be re-thought. No one wants to hear about another corps trying to desperately fund its summer at the last minute...
  5. You are right. This is nothing more than a bail-out. And that's fine. However, considering that the folks in charge are not paying their bills, does it make sense to send additional funds to them? The corps obviously needs new leadership. I'm sure the people running the corps now are fine human beings...but the facts speak for themselves. Not everyone is cut out to run a drum corps. I would feel much better about the future of this organization if there were people in charge who have a history of fiscal responsibility.
  6. oops... Thanks for the input. I sometimes find the technique to be distracting...but the explanations make sense.
  7. What are the advantages of the Cavalier's marching technique? I am assuming there are reasons, other than style...

  9. confirmed: Tournament Of Champions Grand Finale will be held at MetLife Stadium (Giants Stadium)
  10. Orlando Jackson NJ Atlanta Westchester Allentown East Rutherford NJ (or wherever they're having the TOC Championships) Indy really looking forward to seeing Cadets, SCV, and Madison
  11. Orlando Bridgeport Jackson, NJ Chambersburg Atlanta West Chester Allentown E. Rutherford Indy
  12. Jeff Sacktigs 2011 Cadets is one of the finest I have ever seen. Perfect integration of theme, music, and the Cadets style.
  13. The photo is from 1982. (the corps had changed the drum major uniform that season to cream with the maroon braid) He was still at the academy. He was with us all spring and half of summer. He had to return to the academy mid summer for their training, so he could not complete the season. The corps was still on the two-tour model then. After he left us, we filled his spot. Quite an amazing guy...
  14. agreed...I just listened to the clip I recorded on my Iphone again...its really good...the arrangement sounds great! I can't wait for the next camp
  15. The horn line played the first two minutes. I really liked what I heard. It sounds like the aggressive, in-your-face Cadets of old.
  16. I am really looking forward to these shows. Something NEW in drum corps...can't wait! The judging is the least of my concerns.
  17. sounds great...but i love tichelli's stuff ballad section is beautiful
  18. George is bringing The Cadets west for the good of the activity. Period. It will be a fantastic experience for the kids and the west coast fans. Period. That is what this thread is all about.
  19. George is doing what he always does...putting his money where his mouth is. He is bringing The Cadets west because its good for the activity and the west coast fans. Would all who don't like him prefer he keep The Cadets on a smaller, less expensive tour? Man...the guy can't win with some folks...
  20. The two incidents I remember came from listening to the Finals records before I marched. The first was either the '75 or '76 recording of The Kilties. There were 3 soloists who played each note of a major triad at the end of Auld Lang Syne. The guy who played the middle note...well...he completely missed it. Then he continued to try to no avail. I have felt bad for that guy for 30 years. The other was from Garfield's '76 prelim performance of Echano. One of the baritone players played an incredibly loud note during a rest at the end of the tune. This one, I'm embarassed to say, completely cracks me up.
