  1. No summer job 40 hours x 12 weeks x $8.00/hr = $3840.00 (some may make much more). I marched and would let my children march, but let's not look at just corps fees when coming up with the cost of marching a summer of drum corps. Through in spending money and travel to and from camps and I am guessing a year of drum corps costs approximately $8000 minimum.
  2. I was at the show. The Blue Stars guard did not have a bad show. They had drops, but so did everyone. Glassmen do have a nice guard and they looked very clean from where I was sitting. However, it is hard for me to understand that kind of spread. Regarding Crown and Bluecoats, if Crown performed their entire show like they do the first 7-8 minutes, they would be beating the Bluecoats. The Bluecoats are very good - great sound and very clean, but the visual beauty and overall show difficulty does not match Crown. Tonight performance beat design. Crown needs to perform the end of their show better. One thing that I noticed, that could keep Crown from challenging for the title, is their drum line seems to be lost during large sections of the show. I was listening to the horns and watching the guard and would not even notice the drums for minutes at a time. That did not happen while watching the Bluecoats or the Blue Stars. The Blue Stars seem ready to take off score wise. I would have had them in the 84-84 range and was surprised by the 83.3 (until I saw the CG score). I think that will turn out to be anomaly. I am looking forward to seeing where the Blue Stars stack up with Phantom tomorrow and how that spread changes over the next ten days. I have a feeling it will be getting smaller.
  3. 1) Blue Devils - so strong in all captions 2) Cadets - well thought out show with crowd appeal 3) Crown - drums hold them back 4) Cavaliers - great show with room to grow 5) Bluecoats - tons of crowd appeal, but will be overtaken by the Cavalier late 6) Blue Stars - starting to get clean, will make big strides over the next ten days 7) SCV - may be as good as last year, but other corps have improved 8) Phantom - Beautiful music, not enough visual 9) Boston - crowd will love them, but too many good corps this year 10) Blue Knights - much better than last year 11) Madison - climbing back up 12) Glassmen - well designed show that will be seen Saturday night
  4. A good collection of articles posted to the La Cross Tribune. The Blue Stars get such great local support.
  5. If talking all classes, Wisconsin has at least 7. Madison 2 Blue Stars 3 Pioneer 1 Wausau Story 1 I am guessing California will have the most followed by Illinois. Not sure how the Cadets championships divvy up between NJ and PA.
  6. Scores: Governaires 64.063 Colt Cadets 69.90 Legends 71.35 Teal Sound 73.3 Troopers 76.35 Scouts 80.25 Blue Stars 82.9 Bluecoats 87.35 Crown 87.65
  7. Yes, the name should be La Crosse pub, cheese curds for all! (slightly warmed)
  8. I was there the night Madison and Phantom tied at the DCM championships and each played a judged show again to determine the champion. One of the coolest things I have seen involving drum corps. The crowd loved it and the corps threw down the second time around.
  9. The advantages of being from a small town. Great stuff. Nice to see the corps practicing and having shows at UWL again. Beautiful new stadium.
  10. Love La Crosse in the summer time. How I wish I was going to be there tomorrow night.
  11. It appears to me he was just putting them in groups of six for readability purposes.
  12. Big Crown fan, but they seem to be struggling tonight.
  13. I thought they really petered out the last few minutes. The show starts great, and really goes nowhere.
  14. Boston and Phantom have not had any movement in scores this week. Blue Stars have had two full days of practice. I am expecting the Blue Stars to be right there with Boston and PR tonight. I would love to see the Cavaliers rock the DCI world with a win tonight.
  15. Phantom and Boston have not gone anywhere score wise this week. So much for high score early.
  16. Well, it is somewhat apropos considering the topic of this thread, is it not?
  17. From Blue Stars forum: Blue Stars awesome tonight. Percussion hot. Brass had a lot of new nuances throughout. Very powerful yet aable to be subtle. Colorguard exellent. SoOoo much cleaner than 11 days ago, and even way better than the run.through last evening. Great job!
  18. Is that official? Good news if it is. EDIT - just received this via Twitter: TheBlueStars RCR-Metamora is a go! 7:25 is the start of the event.
  19. No need to keep talking to him. He has been making these type of comments for over a week now and is obviously keeping it up simply to be provocative. You are not going to have any impact on his lonely existence.
