  1. I see what you did there. Official announcement: Cavaliers 2012
  2. Yeaaaaah a show title without music selections...not exactly what the drum corps community wants. Especially when it isn't very different from the teaser poster.
  3. ON THE FIELD....FROM NORTH KOREA....SPIRRRRRRRRRIT. OF KIM JUNG IL.
  4. I feel like a lot more corps are keeping show design under wraps this season than in past years. I'm getting excited though - a ton of show announcements have to be right around the corner.
  5. I don't think there is such a thing as over-hype in the offseason. Any news, biased though it might be, is good news during the November-April timeframe. That's my two cents
  6. That was what I was trying to get at. Unfortunately there's no winky face on DCP. Phillip Glass -may- play a part in their 2012 show, but several other composers should be featured too.
  7. Heard good things. Drill was learned, music was practiced. They're going to be great this season, members are hyped, etc. etc. I heard they were glad to have the excellent weather we've been experiencing in the midwest the past week. Other than that, no news. Hoping for an official show announcement soon.
  8. 2011 was a lot like 2008 for me in that I struggled to find one show that I disliked. Top to bottom this was one of my favorite years in drum corps. Highlights outside the top 12: Glassmen - All homer bias aside, I thought they really sold this show. Some good swagger from my old corps! Troopers - Fantastic, introspective show with some incredibly powerful moments. I always associate shows that are about a journey (Phantom 2010, Crown 09, Troopers 11) with my own drum corps journey, and they always hit home. Academy - Great rendition of Lux Arumque as a ballad. Another song that has special meaning to me. Strong developing program they have out there in the desert. Colts - This show grew on me over the summer. Great music and a pretty rocking hornline. I liked the visual idea, and they didn't play off the cliche concept of good vs evil in a predictable way. Teal Sound - Powerful hornline and I actually liked some of the electronics integration. Some really cool effect moments. Crossmen - A really fun show! I LOVED the "Hallelujah" Ballad. I hope more corps do different versions of this song in the future. Another corps with some swagger! Oregon Crusaders - The ballad really got to me. Easy to see why SCV jacked this ballad for next year's show. I'd comment on the other corps, but I never saw them live. Hopefully this coming summer is just as good!
  9. Sweet! This is good news for me and my friends. Man, I'm already looking forward to finals.
  10. Going to be in section 642 (I know, nosebleed section). Sounds like row 4 will be closer to the field which is a good thing. Still trying to work out if seats 1-4 will be on the side of this section toward the 50 or if I'll be out on the 25.
  11. Ordered mine yesterday. Anyone know/remember if the rows go from highest to lowest as you go towards the field? Also do the seat numbers go highest to lowest as you go toward the 50? I have tickets for row 4, seats 1-4. Hoping that's down and in.
  12. Very true. Plus I'm pretty sure the coach that ordered players to storm the field while Cap Reg was practicing was fired. These two incidents are coincidental, but they still do not reflect well on NIU's football program. Control your players, coaches.
  13. Bluh. Just read some of the comments on this article. Bad idea. Possibly worse than comments on YouTube. Max punishment involved seems severe, but I'm glad it's being brought up...NIU certainly has a colorful past with the marching arts.
  14. Yeah. Yeah, that's about it. Loved the old/new juxtaposition. Reminds me of this activity's rich history and how it is still evolving and entertaining tons of fans today. This video is why I love this activity.
  15. The show in Kalamazoo alternates every year. Every other year it is in the Grand Rapids area. I do love performing in Waldo Stadium though. Been calling that field "home" for the past 5 years. Mind the trains, though.
  16. I love and deeply respect my corps and its storied history, but I sure as heck am glad I got to march in the latest Glassmen uniform (ALTHOUGH the best one was still late 90s-early 2000s with the full Glassmen shield on the front. Mmmmm.) Having said that, I am interested to see if this Cadets uni will be "Phantom Regiment" white or if it will be creme colored. I am having a hard time picturing a current Cadets uni that was all white with gold trimmings. Not saying it would be bad, just hard to visualize. I hope they're prepared to spend even more time cleaning drill if they choose all white.
  17. 1) SCV with Shaw + Rennick 2) Volunteering with Glassmen for their move-ins and subsequently the Glassmen's 2012 production 3) Taking my friend who got me into drum corps to his first finals in several years 4) Attending a multitude of shows in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana (maybe Illinois) 5) Seeing/hoping that the trend of energetic, crowd-pleasing, and well-designed shows from 1st place to last place continues from last year Should be another awesome year...I am really looking forward to summer of 2012!
  18. Yes, this is exactly the song I meant. No idea what I was typing earlier haha...I had James Taylor on the mind I suppose.
  19. I expect to hear James Taylor's Starry Starry Night somewhere in here haha
  20. Did anyone catch the restreaming of the Toledo Symphony with the Glassmen last night? G-brass sounded awesome with them! Got some show info last night - can't share yet (show isn't final from what I understand), but what they have in place sounds awesome. Sounds kind of like a re-focusing of image for the GLASSmen.
  21. The Glassmen rehearse in Oak Shade, OH, which is near Wauseon, which is near Toledo. They have two buildings: the (in?)famous G-West, which I love dearly, and G East. Early camps and some rehearsals take place at nearby Morenci High School in Morenci, MI.
  22. We don't joke about that. Not that scores matter, but I've never gotten a 90 in my marching career. The closest I came to getting a 90 was with Capital Regiment. I joked in the tunnel as we were taking the field for retreat that "wouldn't it be hilarious if we got an 89.95?" to which everyone around me laughed. "and in 5th place, with a score of 8-9 point 95....CAPITAL RRRRRRRREGIMENT." Anyway, to stay vaguely on topic, I hope that BD does something along the lines of last year. I really bought into that show after some initial skepticism. Can't wait for SCV either. The rumors I've heard about Crown's show are good. Very good.
