  1. I must admit this pre-season has been the worst in recent memory in terms of being able to really get excited about the upcoming season. The amount of pre-season material has been quite sparse at best. That is, of course unless you want to really DIG to find something or catch a LEAK before it is gone off the web. That said, I honestly don't think that it is related to "music rights", but I could be wrong. While the following opinions are speculation at best, I honestly think the issue is many(not all) drum corps are just tired of early season negative feedback. Are the corps powers that be feeling that their source material will get stale or that it is not "clean' enough for listening? IMO the anticipation or the build-up can be extremely exciting. The movie industry has gotten this right using sneak peaks and previews. In the gaming industry, I've waited years before a game was actually released, but was able to follow the game through different stages of its development which kept me interested. Why this point of comparison? Sometimes I think corps may be too worried about negative feedback about their particular program. I look at this differently. While some feedback is obviously unwarranted, most of it I've seen on here is very constructive and not destructive. But then again, DCI is very competitive. So in that regard that basically destroys my above argument.
  2. What is the big deal anyway? Except for the simple fact that this is the first show, I thought most people leave the shows before score announcements anyway. At least that is what I've usually seen these last several years.
  3. I agree... I was dragged by a friend in Connecticut last year to a 'drum corps' parade...My friend said to me that we were going to go see some drum corps...Since it was last minute and I was not doing anything I thought I'd go for the little road trip. I figured it would probably be DCA corps marching considering the time of year and I didn't even ask...All I heard was drum corps and I was on board...lol To my surprise, it was a parade for fife and drums. It certainly wasn't exactly what I was expecting...especially considering this friend has attended DCI a few times with me. He doesn't make much of a distinction between the two. I can't understand that. It really puzzles me. Another friend I've spoken with recently said in an email: "I actually went to a drum corps show last night. The town next to where I live was celebrating its anniversary so they had a weekend lot celebration going on and before I logged online last night I was at the part of the festivities where the bands played..not in actual competition but more just as in celebration. I wil say, however, that the bagpipers dragged on for way too long...the other bands were good." I've given up trying to explain it!
  4. I need my "fix"...I am seriously experiencing "BAC withdrawals"...
  5. It's "Caught" but who noticed that...Sorry I could not resist since it was in red and an edit... ... honorable mention..."conceptual"
  6. Well that didn't take long... I just happened to locate an unofficial pdf of the world-class new judging sheets floating around on the net... DCI-World-Class-Judging-Sheets.pdf
  7. I seriously think I've been exploring too much of Shaun Canon's website lately...I really need to get a life... I found yet another link that should be corrected like the other one...This was located by going to "Tour Dates" or "Tour" at http://www.shauncanon.com Here is the direct link... http://eventful.com/indianapolis_in/events/shaun-canon-/E0-001-046429151-3?utm_source=widgets&utm_medium=widgets&utm_campaign=event_widget
  8. I tend to agree with this sentiment. When I think of BoA, I don't think of "Bank of America". I am also aware of the merger with Music for All, but that is only due to these message boards. I don't personally follow BoA/Music for All. BUT I do recognize the BoA brand. I am sure some still refer to it as Bands of America like myself and NOT Music for All. I think the brand is "DCI" itself as you have talked about above. I guess the only confusion is when you try to move this niche activity more mainstream. I don't think it will ever become mainstream and there really is nothing wrong with that in the first place IMO. Besides unless you have a billion dollars in the bank to spend on branding...in the end I think trying to going mainstream MAY dilute the brand of DCI itself. Just my opinion of course...
  9. Thanks for such a quick response to changing the wording of the site. I seriously did not expect that to happen over the weekend. That said, it is a "World Championship" as Michael Boo so graciously pointed out in the other discussion thread...
  10. I'm sorry but (the bold text) sounds like all the drum corps performers are a background band. oh well I digress...
  11. The old was: "Shaun Canon performs as the main featured guest of the Drum Corps International marching band competition. Shaun will be accompanied by Lindsey Stirling on violin, and 3,000 of the nation's best marching band high school performers." and the new now is: "Shaun Canon will be the featured guest performer at the Drum Corps International National Championship, accompanied by hundreds of Drum Corps performers. Shaun Canon will make a guest performance at this competition to show his support for music programs and pay tribute to one of the finest music competitions in the world."
  12. I was referring to WHAT Boo had posted about DCI's press release and that he INFERRED specifically that DCI already made the announcement...I never said this was a press release...lol
  13. This DCI press release does not mention that he would be performing at finals...this release is all about his new video...just for the record.
  14. I think perhaps he may go on right at 7pm according to the release, but this is obviously undetermined at this point...I just wonder where the people that go to see him will be sitting...considering that tickets are already sold for finals...but then again they may not care about sitting near the 50. In this regard I have mixed feeling about it.
  15. With the release of his new video a few weeks ago Live for Music™ I was interested in learning a little more information about someone I never heard about...so I was browsing this website and found this announcement... Shaun Canon at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sat Aug 11 I think this will be great to help promote drum corps even more to perhaps new audiences... The only thing that stuck out to me and made me cringe a little bit was the following description... "Shaun Canon performs as the main featured guest of the Drum Corps International marching band competition. Shaun will be accompanied by Lindsey Stirling on violin, and 3,000 of the nation's best marching band high school performers." What are your thoughts?
  16. I would just LOVE to see ANY open-class corps make finals!
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYNI4EkXIn0 I'll assume (big assumption) this guy is looking to fill one of the tuba spots...good luck on your BAC audition...posted yesterday 5/26/12 on YouTube...
  18. I think Brasso is right though...I'd probably keel over before I made it to the practice field...of course in 91'...with just 48 horns we were still kick a**
  19. Craig...stop getting me all excited for this season... I'm curious if you happen to know why the percussion section descended upon Denton TX one week early? Not that I'm complaining!
  20. Please don't remind me...I'm trying to forget about this heart-breaker year....although it was the first year I marched BAC and was the best experience of my life
