I feel the same way. Blue Knights may just be really clean at this point. Major changes asside, I think they are caught and passed this week coming.

Honestly the top 4 is still a very tight race. Crown moves back into 3rd as phantom had off and the cavaliers seem to be stuck in the 93s. I dont think anyone will catch BD but logicaly there have been bigger moves in score in the past. Based on that, Anyone in the top 4 could win the title at this point. What a year.

I look for a large score jump from Crown. Home show and the fact that they scored the EXACT SAME SCORE down to the 100th point from Murfeesburro to Atlanta. How does that even happen with 11 different sums being totalled and averaged for the final outcome? Craziness. Hope they can clean that nice new ending as it was rather dirty tonite.

No, you did not start anything. People like that should be in closets pushing pencils rather than exposing themselves to the social outside. That was very irritating. Anyhow, I agree with your thoughts on Crowns show. I mean you can always improve, and everyone has thier opinion of what something should be, but they sure have done a hell of a job. On a side note, I do hope ole Jeter is correct in the original intent of his thread.

One plus for crown last night asside from the perc judge not being there, was that they Beat the Blue Devils in brass and took 1st over all in that caption. That has never happened. Most of us on here would admit that asside from how much we love phantoms and cadets brass in certain years, blue devils are the king of brass in DCI. Brass historically has not been very good for crown. Crown is just a machine this year.

You totally missed his point. The prior few post discussed the possibility of crown getting 3rd at finals. Given that situation the poster was saying that it would be not possible to win a title for 4 more years. Then the next quoting poster who you are referencing made the point based on crown possibly placeing 3rd this year at finals. The point was not based off of 3rd at san antonio.

If only that were sarcasm, I would not be so worried about your perception. Crown RUNS many places in that show while playing. You cant run the WHOLE show. Even Cavaliers have many park and blow places. Actually its mainly what their hornline plays from when playing with ANY volume. Its fine though. But please lets not kid ourselvs into oblivion with untrue statements like that.

Just a shot? Is there some reason for the hesitance to say that they will win if the afformentioned is achieved? Wonder what that is? We know.

Add to that the effects of weather. It has been an enlightening discussion but I still don't feel like complication for the mere sake of it warrents higher marks.

It is a little more difficult not only because of the new combos of notes that have to be heard, but because the instrumetns themselves have tendencies to be in tune in certain keys. Brass lines like Crowns and other competitive lines are playing difficult music as is. Playing in certain more common keys likely insures that you may focus more on general effect of your design and pleasing the crowd who like many of us will never know the difference. Why worry with trying to be "that corps" who seems to just want to be difficult in the least meaningfull places just for the sake of it? The fans love shows liek crown and could likely care less about what key they are in. In a way I applaude those that try to stretch the extremes, but to say that crowns hornline should or will be scored lower later in the year simply because the other guy was willingly making it hard on himself for just the sake of that isnt the answer either. DCI to me is about entertainment and logical difficulty. Maybe I just dont have a well trained enough ear to appreciate the odd keys, but probably 90 percent of others do not either. I guess in the end its just an oppinion of what really matters.

Agreed that more difficult fingering positions will slow progress to an extent, however once that muscle memory is down, there is only a minimal downfall in performance. They are playing it every day nearly every waking hour. I just feel that with the exposed runs jumps in range that crown is performing that it makes up for the mentioned added dificulty in odd keys. To me it just becomes almost irrelevant after so much repitition of the same music day after day. And yes Im a brass guy. But to each his own.

Ok I get what u are saying but all of this difficulty with strange keys is pretty much thrown out of the window when u consider that they arent sight reading music. Its not like they are having to really think about the key they are in because they have basically memorized, no, absolutely memorized the music and it just becomes a matter of muscle memory. Yes they must keep the chords in tune in these new keys but a good ear is a good ear. If you have talented players they will be able to blend and match great pitches in any key. They technical difficulty in Crowns show more than makes up for any minor inconvenience in matching pitch in a strange key.

My boys are comin through! Congrats to all corps tonight with several very improved scores. Crown is making a big statement. San Antonio will be HUGE though. Looks like Coats jumped up in a nice way tonite as well. Crown is here to stay I believe.
