    Hate to admit it, but I agree with you. This visual package was a complete let down. Was hoping after a few days of rehearsals this week that there would be some improvements made to the design. Not sure what happened there. There’s sooo much more that could’ve been done with drill design and props.Not digging some of the musical transitions either. The show is fun and entertaining but it’s not at the level we come to expect from their current staff. I’ll see them live tomorrow, maybe a better feel. As of right now though I kind of feel this show was just pieced together, a little disappointed.

    If that really is the order each night it will be very interesting to see how it effects the butts in seats. Friday you have all Finalists in the first 8 slots and Saturday night you basically have most of the perennial Finalists performing at the beginning of the day. Does the crowd stay? There’s no awards and rumors of no retreat. Will be interesting. I’ve been to finals every year since ‘04 and I know the stadium is less full earlier in the day and fills up as the “Top 12” perform. What happens if the time slots are opposite?

    Exactly. I’d expect the Cavaliers in ‘22 to be in the running for a medal. This year was all about fun and crowd enjoyment. Their brass is incredible.

    Watch the video series. they’re producing weekly episodes. Holy Crap. The Cavaliers new equipment trucks are pretty impressive. Automatic ramps for the front ensemble to roll up (instead of lifted) and solar panels. Crazy. Also just saw that all members, staff and volunteers had to be vaccinated and are retested weekly. Impressive. Great hope for the future.

    “Their fan base”. Great. Now it’s time to invigorate the rest of the fans not just “theirs”and the members of these boards. Remember a majority of modern drum corps fans don’t remember 2003 or weren’t alive. And once again I say…none of this takes away from their outstanding members.

    Agree with not using everything in 2021 but at same point come on…give us something. Watch the Cavaliers staff videos they say that they basically put the 2020 show on the back burner but created a new show that would push the members, push boundaries and create excitement for the fans. That’s what I wished for from Phantom. It seems their design staff consistently relys on design from the past.

    Im glad you feel this way and Phantoms members should be proud and excited for their future. But we all know that it comes down to show design, say what we want. If you start the season and the judges have your GE scores in the bottom it’s going to make for a long season trying to climb your way up. Just concerned for 2022.

    Needless to say…those three,if attending would’ve placed ahead of them. And once again great job Phantom!!!! Design team, not so much.

    I totally understand and agree with much of your viewpoint. And a lot of it supports my concerns as well. I loved this show in 2003, competitively it wouldn’t hold in 2021. This corps has been having design issues over the past several seasons and I just wish the staff would’ve pushed themselves into 2022. now would’ve been a perfect time to experiment and push boundaries. There are several corps this summer doing exactly that. I just wish Phantom was one of them. All the corps out there have been thru the hell that was 2020 but only Phantoms design team has basically decided to regurgitate a show design from almost 20 years ago. And that’s why I’m disappointed. Nothing to do with the members.

    Okay. I’m going to start by saying I’m so excited to have drum corps back and I can’t wait for Lisle and Indy. I would also like to say job well done to the members of Phantom Regiment. Now for the BUT…I’m not going to lie and say that I’m not disappointed in the design team. I understand the praises on here many are giving and I agree that any corps fielding a show are deserving. Watching the show I feel it was a huge miss by the design team. What I saw and heard was a product that was from the early 2000’s. The show design if judged would’ve kept Phantom in the 10-12 range if lucky.This year if any would’ve been the year for the Phantom staff to take some risks and instead they gave us another throwback show. I saw people commenting on the lack of audience response and I think it was more a reflection of the lack of emotion from the design. Not everyone are die hard fans who find this show sentimental thus creating an emotional response. The props also did absolutely nothing for the design and were sloppy and burdensome. For me personally if this wasn’t a musical book that I had loved from 2003 and hearing for the first time I would be concerned from a adjudication stand point. I’m so very happy drum corps is back but for me the jury is still out on the Phantom design staff. Good luck and be safe everyone.

    Looks like the ballad (based on clues) is Kiss From A Rose by Seal. Gonna take a wild guess that the reference from the red to the green might be Rosemont (red) supporting the Cavaliers (green).

    Clue 3 (opener) Lyrics from an Australian Progressive metal band. That band would be Karnivool and the lyrics are from “Changes”. If we’re right on the first three clues this could be very interesting.

    Not to mention the fact that when a lot of us marched we were 50 pounds lighter and things like jackets and rings don’t fit anymore. Lol.

    I’ve been to Finals every year since 2004 and plan on going this year. I just wish the event details weren’t so cryptic. I know everything is pending but would like to know what the intended format is going to be.
