  1. Bill Leslie: Tall Ships You can hear an excerpt of the song here: http://ilike.myspacecdn.com/play#Bill+Lesl...92458:m33690601 I think the link will work.
  2. I would love to see Phantom, Crown, or SCV do a show based on John Barry's score for "The Lion in Winter." AN AMAZING SOUNDTRACK, and highly recommended. Edit: I believe that Glassmen included a bit of the score in their 2010 show, though I may be mistaken.
  3. It's funny: I don't think anyone, including myself, had Cavies medaling this year in our preseason/early season prediction threads. But, I'm happy to see them doing so well.
  4. 1. Cadets 2. Blue Devils 3. Cavaliers 4. Crown 5. Bluecoats 6. Phantom 7. SCV 8. Blue Knights 9. Boston Crusaders 10. Madison Scouts 11. Blue Stars 12. Glassmen I know Blue Devils look unstoppable now, but they will peak just a little too early. With the right momentum, I think Cadets have the vehicle to get there, more so than Crown (who don't have the visual program) and Cavaliers (whose music scores will keep them from the top). Bluecoats will fade by the time we get to Houston. I expect that 5 - 7 could be in any order and will be very very competitive right up to the end. That's all, folks.
  5. Great drill! and great sound as always. glad to see they are using more tubas.
  6. Very cool drum feature, awesome visual moments, straight into a big hit
  7. Guard needs the most work. At least judging from the live feed.
  8. I really like this arrangement of "Silence" though. Anyone know who their arranger is?
  9. what time are scores supposed to be announced?
  10. I haven't read this entire thread but figured I'd throw in my two sense any way. Cavaliers show was interesting a creative, at least when judged against last years show (which I only saw at Championships). The music selections are excellent, although there seems to be a good bit of repetition in the latter have of the show. Once again, visuals/drill will be their strong point. I thought their brass sounded really good... until Crown came out. Let me just say that I have loved Crown's shows for the past 6 years now. I cannot say that I was very drawn to their show last night. I didn't find it as entertaining as the last few years have been... however, there certainly is a lot of room to grow. Once again, they are performing some abstract visuals a la Star. I thought the uniforms were ugly, but they grew on me as the night went on. Danzon!!!!! was great. The end of the show was a tad bizarre, but I'm sure they plan to change it. Their brass is certainly up to par, and I look forward to seeing how this show evolves throughout the season (although I'm not sure I'll be able to attend any more shows I have not walked away from a Cadets show feeling satisfied since 2005. BUT I LOVE THEIR SHOW!!!! It was kind of childish, but wildly entertaining... really, it was the only show that I wanted to see a second time through. However, I do not feel like the show has as much room to grow as the other two I saw last night-- aside from some more drill at the end. The drill they have on the field now looks to be very challenging and when it is cleaner it is going to be very impressive. To my untrained ear, their brass sounded right up their with Crowns in the first run through (although Crown had phasing issues), and not quite as close in during the second run. After seeing both run throughs, I was expecting Cadets to win, but it was certainly going to be close between Cadets and Crown. As far as the format, I really enjoyed it. The guy at the ticket booth gave my friends and I a "student" discount, so we got 50 yard line, row 12 tickets for $11.50! I was expecting them to perform, explain, perform, but they actually explained the shows before hand. The time between corps was way to long, as was intermission (close to 40 minutes by my watch). Since we were front and center for the first run, we went to sit up top the second time so as to better observe drill. I thought this was a great opportunity and would definitely attend one of these events in the future.
  11. Page 17-- "All agreements with large venues, sponsors, and partners will need to be reviewed. Championship is the most visible and noteworthy." If nothing else, at least this is a step in the right direction.
  12. I heard that they are tapping Morgan Freeman to play God.
  13. I think Cadets just came out with a 75th anniversary book recently- I haven't heard too much from other corps though.
  14. I'll bite... 2000 - Boston Crusaders- Red 2001 - Off year hahah. 2002 - Cavaliers! 2003 - Phantom Regiment 2004 - SCV Scheherazade! 2005 - Crown-- Angelus! (one of my favorite shows) 2006 - PR! 2007 - CC--- HM PR 2008 - Regiment FTW! Such emotion! 2009 - Carolina Crown, with SCV a close second.
  15. Hi everyone. I've been listening to SCV 04 a lot lately and I just wanted to spread a little love. WOW! What a show! I'm disappointed that I wasn't yet acquainted with Drum Corps at the time, because I would have loved to have seen this show live. I guess my question is this: To those of you who saw the show live, was it very memorable for you and was it a favorite of the '04 season? I know it wasn't the cleanest show in the world, but for some reason listening to the MP3 gives me an emotional high only rivaled by listening to Spartacus 08 (I was there at finals) and a few other shows. I should probably add that I've only seen a video of show a handful of times (two or three) so my opinion is stressed solely from an audio standpoint. Thanks.
  16. Unfortunately, the year that Phantom finished ninth coming off of a championship... That's not the only way I will remember it, but the most prominent way.
  17. I had a fantastic experience in Indy, and it confuses me when people say that they were miserable. I talked to dozens of people while I was there, and while most of what they had to say about LOS was negative, a good number of them really enjoyed the atmosphere of Indianapolis. I was only there for two days, but I paid $80.00 for a hotel room, $14.00 for parking, and $8.00 for dinner at LOS. I ate my other meals at the hotel, at Subway, Taco Bell, and Burger King. In all, I probably spent about $150.00 that whole weekend, including souvies. Indianapolis was clean, there was almost no traffic, everything was in walking distance, and the warm ups inside the Indy Convention Center were $#%^ing amazing. I think what we see on here about Indy being a bad experience, two expensive, etc. is part of what is going on in the entire country right now... the economy is in the crapper, the government is spending money they don't have... people are frustrated, so any extra money they have to shell out, any other inconvenience just makes them more miserable. Also, people are so upset with Lucas Oil stadium that they will look for anything to ##### about. If you people are looking for the perfect Drum Corps experience, then you should give up and leave right now. Thats all...
  18. Ah... okay. I just found a youtube video of the first half of the show. It was interesting... still, I think it would be awesome if a World Class Corps took a shot at it. 93 was over 15 years ago, after all...
  19. I would love to hear any corps do "La Fiesta Mexicana" by H. Owen Reed. Not sure if its been done in the past, but when I listen to the piece I have visions of an epic drum corps show. I think it would be most fitting for a corps like HNC, SCV, or CC.
