  1. Yes I have taught DCI as well as DCA and on the music tapes it was mentioned about accenting and visually doing more or less to complete whats being played and that was from music judges. guard wotrk as I said will bleed over into many captions. A specific judge is to critique them. Corps proper will fall under GE judge ( as do guard also ) if they pick rifles up you just expanded your guard as in Cavies BUT also bleeds into GE as far as Dance for guard ( Guard judge and GE judges.) Movememnt of corps proper GE Judge... Ok sorry maybe I confused you more....lol
  2. Or has BD found that formula, balance, between all sections, learned to work the sheets? This activity all the way around including winter is about a formula to succeed. Maybe they do lack in some areas but together become superior...hmmmmmm
  3. BECAUSE COLOR PEOPLE ARE FLIGHTY AND FORVER JUST MEAN THE NEXT 20 MINUTES..LOL
  4. go back further to Brians Song...lol....and no babies thrown.....Child protective services come after you now for that..lol
  5. IF CORPS 12 happens to do what you say I think it will be pretty obvious that they need to be ranked toward the top. I think some people use that argument without thinking or believing, that there is a drastic difference either in programing or design or performance from top groups to lower groups BUT like you say if it should happen I do think it would be pretty obvious. As far as the tic system, it was just as subjective as it is now...the system was maybe worse. IMO
  6. hmmmmmm interesting you may have something there ...especially your last line
  7. I can't belive im going to get into this one but heres my take..ughhhh you are very right "G" Problem is the audiance ( which it's good there is one..lol ) is filled with: 1. Parents who even if there kid pooped all over the field....They got screwed 2. 2 year drumcorps experts. ( you know all that wisdom ) 3.40 year experts ( again, you know all that wisdom ) alot with great experience, others wouldn't like anything today if Mother theresa herself designed it. 4. Plain ole experts who marched......you know the 3rd soprando in 1970 who got put on the equipment truck because they couldnt play or march. 5. And of course the person who never judged...dont know or follow the sheets to know what is required or not. 6. and lastly the educated Drum Corps person or at least the ones who try. Thank God their BUTTS are all in the seats otherwise there would be no audiance to perform for. But that is by nature , what we are an what we do, the good and bad of it
  8. OK LETS TRY 100 WORDS OR LESS...LOL..I HATE LONG POSTS..LOL Guard= inherent in all captions Corps proper=( visually, dance or whatever)...GE Corps proper on guard equipment=Guard and GE Judge Guardcore MUST stay....when we didnt have it although inherent was hard to measure progress or lack there of. no specifics for staff or members plus not fair 40 members out of 150 dont have their own caption ESPECIALLY how much nweight it carries. Did I do it?..lol....YES>>>>WHEW
  9. yeah i have to agree with you there..im not quite sure hes as new as he lets on to be...flip flopping from Drill teams..or whatever it was to Corps seems forced,...but then again thats my job is to find that stuff in people..lol
  10. Done also..... i thought the post was worth it but NAWWW
  11. also...lol. always trolling when opinions are different
  12. Come On GEZZZZZZZZZ the guy made a nice comment to the corps I dont think they were looking for a debate.Anyd yes the top 7 deserve props. I totally get your position on all this and agree with most of what you say but i have also heard you say people deserve their thought heard..is that 1 sided? One could say the same of your post gushing over Crown doing a clinic for you and how nice those people are..well so are BDs people...cadet people and so on. Wheres your love for those other corps call 1 of them for your clinic or wont they draw enough people? Convictions conditional? Im really sorry, I m not trying to attack you at all or what you so passionately believe in. BUT there are others out there, no need to attact them either. Again...sorry Im done !!!!!
  13. I have to wonder if this person would have had the same reaction to our activity no matter what the content was. Did he wander into the theater to do an article on an activity that was taking up time from legitimate entertainemnt and WHY? I remember some horrible reviews on Blast also. Some good but some saying it was nothing more tha HS band banging in the crudest form. Would this writer have said the same if he heard show tunes, high steppin, or classical, did it matter? I agree , great exposure from the average person or mainstream But you have to admit, anytime we expose ourselves to others many times they dont get even more why we chose to do this. Just a thought.
  14. lol...thats funny..but may be true..i look back compared to today and say why did we even break a sweat..we didnt move anywhere or it took 2 bazillion counts to get there......lol but it was fun
  15. HEY Andy....maybe if I decide to head to Scranton I will stop by Alumni practice say hi buy ya a beer and talk Drum Corps with a real DrumCorps Guy...no bull.......lol..if not soon ( kinda burnt on DC this week ) I guess im gettin soft...lol
  16. Well I did understand your opinion..just was way over the top....as far as a Negative perception of Cavaliers? NAw...I also am a brotherI just stay undercover with everything.so i can voice a few opinions . Also....lol............might come out on CNN......lol
  17. I wasnt saying thats how I felt just the generality of how honor guards have been perceived but although I totally understand what you are saying The original poster asking the question I think was in reference to competiting corps today and WHY honor guards are not used. Alumni...total different ball game. As per my realtives...they arent in the honor guard sorry for confusion 1 hornline 1 guard. Have fun in Scranton... fun place
  18. Yeah cabs alumni...great job this year. I have 2 realtives marching with you this year BUT as far as Penalty's you cant have any..competition wise anyway you dont compete..Unless your talking some law. either way good job
  19. I dont think the times have anything to do with it. IT WAS worse years ago.........another poster mentioned the DREAM contest..WOW..huge ovations But also HUGE booing and hot dog thowing in the stands..lol...........Trust me on this PEOPLE dont change,...situations do.
  20. are there corps that dont carry in parades...i think most do...but the poster wasnt talking about parades they were asking abut Shows. As you also know at the time POST viet nam there was a differnt felling on politics, religion in schools and yes even the flag. As many vets as there were at the time there were just as many if not more prosters. Many I marched and were taught by in drum corps. So, its history. Now we fight not about a flag , ( which actually has more substance )we fight about an electronic, a mirrors or a clarinet...lol....Man I love my field of work....lol
  21. WRONG!!!!!!!!Bridgemen as another poster stated were not the only ones at the time....Bayonne got blamed for alot because it was easy to do. They were different, broke the mold, entertained, changed rules so an easy target. A-Squards were done away with as another poster said for number of reasons BUT also people felt that because it was parked in the coner mostly by that point never moved it was a waste of a body. Also, there was a concensus that as long as the flag was respected within the contest ( national Anthum ) it wasnt necessary. Some posted the flag in the corner in a stand also. In addition as I remember EVERY corps had an A squad for retreat so the flag was present. As far as Bayonne I know all this 1st had beacuse it was one of my 1st teaching jobs there in 79 although I was still young enough to march at the time. The A squad changed in Winter guard also. I respect someones feelings on this for sure but to the original poster it was about 35 years ago that change, although most ALL AGE still have them for respect as well as WELL we all know the guys/gals we put in those squads. Usually its the respected member who cant for whatever reason do or be part of the show....so it works for those in DCA who chose to do it. As a note winter guards used to stop mid way through a show to do the manuel of arms......................now that was special
  22. been gone for a long time..in winter guard also ( for guard at leat 25 years ) But to try to answer your question....1 reason was numbers. using up all the people you could. Anoher and I cant speak for all just where I taught. It was a thing of not having an A squard in the way or subject to any rule or penalty.Thers a few other reasons Im sure others could elaborate on
