  1. I appreciate that, I'd just rather not see the same ideas over and over again. Especially to end a show.
  2. YES although crown has done some interesting transitions INTO the crown set, especially with their current designer if I'm remembering correctly
  3. Speaking of helmets ... Not a fan of the guard dancing with the helmets. Why does it seem like they try to do something with the helmets every other year? It was cool in 93 or whatever year that was, but other than that It's never interesting! I know the helmet has a lot significance to the corps, but it really doesn't mean #### to anyone else, and they need to consider that. It is also not a good guard prop --- a small fuzzy black thing, not very effective from the box. just stop with trying to be cute with the helmet already! And while people like the chevron ending, to me any time they do a chevron or a kickout at the end of a show it just seems like they have nothing actually creative to do so they milk what worked in the past as a copout. Would rather see something fresh. that's my negativity On a bright note, the music is still in tact! Love that even though they've watered some parts down a bit, it still makes musical sense and they aren't replacing brass parts with synth. I also like that they march and play quite a bit instead of relying on body movement/prop stuff and those kind of visuals ... they aren't very good at that stuff (and I personally don't care for it unless it's done REALLY well like bluecoats/scv), so glad that they backed away from it and do more actual marching. Much better show than last year overall, which isn't saying too much, but it is.
  4. not a single memorable visual moment . Still enjoy the music for now
  5. a little more optimistic after hearing the concert in the park - probably the best book in a few years. I felt similarly after hearing phantasm though, and then they ended up cutting a bunch of the brass and replacing with synth and I hated it. Would be a shame if that happened this year. Crossing my fingers for them this year, dci is better when phantom is legit
  6. If anyone has a couple of finals tickets between the 35's, and not super close to the ground, but would no longer like to support dci -- I support your cause. I will buy them from you 😄
  7. so we've got Carmina Burana and Fire of eternal glory so far. What else?
  8. So nobody else noticed that the music at the end is O Fortuna from Carmina Burana? Probably safe to say they will be playing that? Although I thought it was nearly impossible to get the rights.
  9. will he also be arranging? He's one of my favorite arrangers!
  10. the snap. they've done that outside of their shows (warmups etc) for years. at least they did in early 2000's
  11. As for what I hope to see, most of all someone to get involved who is an ace at fund raising. stop trying to do what they think the judges want them to do and just do what they do well. Prioritize the audience over the judges. A program designer with vision, who wants to do a drum corps show, not a wgi show. Most importantly, music arrangements that we would want to listen to on their own without watching the visual. I just hope they figure something out. They are a special drum corps with lots of great people involved, and it's sad to see them tumble.
  12. Whoever brought up key poulan, there are many many arrangers I'd rather see at Phantom than him. He would be an improvement on what they have now, but that's not saying much. He arranged one good show at vanguard, scheherazade. Other than that, nothing spectacular. i don't know what their issue is, if it's money to afford any designers that have a clue then it's going to be tough to overcome. A program coordinator/artistic designer should be their priority, they need direction and vision. It seems that they feel that they have to modernize with props and costumes and all that, but nobody involved has a clue how to do it effectively. I don't think they HAVE to modernize, they just need to do what they do well. I think they can move up in placement with their current brass in percussion staff, it's all just design. I love will pitts but his arrangements are so stale. How many times did they just hold a solid chord out this year with out any moving parts within it? Boring. Good luck to them.
  13. not usually a BD fan but OMG I LOVE THEIR SHOW THIS YEAR!
  14. aaaaaand one of brass moments I really liked was already cut.
  15. a childs garden of dreams? is that the rumor? would be amazing. inbox me bro
  16. Gaines is the best in the business, especially for guards!
  17. Why are we still talking about it? It's not their show music, lol
  18. Spartacus is for an alumni event and probably concerts, sillies.
