  1. I never thought of it as abuse. When instructors screamed and yelled and called us out it only motivated me to show them I will not break, I will not quit. Little did I know at the time that is exactly the response they wanted from everyone in the corps. Pushing us to a level of excellence we as kids could have never accomplished without the staff constantly pushing, motivating and challenging to do our very best. There is a method to the madness. Pepe' Notaro was our horn lines consultant. He could intimidate like no other and we dreaded the weekends he came to instruct. The dividends paid off. We placed 1st or 2nd at all the major shows that year. After one particular national competition in which we won he was off to the side by himself as we celebrated. I took that opportunity to thank him for all he had done and his response in that thick New England accent was it wasn't me boy, you kids did all the hard work to get where you are at. This showed me that the staff truly does care. The way they motivate though unorthodox at times is for the good of the whole. I still reap the benefits of my drum corps experience. Taught me never give to give uo. Never settle for mediocrity always striving for excellence.
  2. Seriously? Why can't a dark horse come out of no where and beat the alledged better opponent? Remember the 69 Mets? The Miracle on Ice? Boise State vs Oklahoma? DCI would create so much more interest and exitment if it truly was an "any given night" activity. Instead it's status quo. vanilla, so amd so can't beat so and so because... fill in the blank. Phantom charging to the finish in 08 was high drama and the fans loved it. I prefer a slug fest last man standing versus Bully Beat Down. Hopefully tonight is a precursor of things to come the rest of this year.
  3. Geez, now the slotting is all screwed up.
  4. Laura from Walnut Grove. Manley was from Mankato, Mr. Edwards was from Beaver Creek and Nellie was originally from Duluth.

  6. Saw POC and Zydeco this past weekend.Pride strong out of the gate as usual. Zydeco very entertaining show. Thought Zydeco had first show jitters. Many drops but a show that could be making a run to medal by finals. Should be another great year.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't dino one of the guys in the Rat Pack?
  8. I KNOW ONE OF THE GUARD AGEOUTS FROM BLUE STARS LEFT HER RIB BELT. SHE MARCHED WITH TWO BROKEN RIBS LAST YEAR FOR HALF THE SEASON.
  9. I'm already engaged by this hypothetical show and corps. They already have a perfect score and haven't even taking the field. What a conceptual, ground breaking performance. Would the crowd throwing babies effect the final score?
  10. This has never happened in the 40 year history of DCI. I knew today was the day to buy a lottery ticket.
  11. OK I'll chime in on this one. What about the fans and the layman who decides to see a show. You drive to a show, sometimes a couple hundred miles one way. You plop down your money for a ticket, sit down, the first corps starts to perform and the heavens open up. Show is cancelled and no refund. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The die hard fan probably will come back to a show. Many of the die hard fans are baby boomers and we aint gittin any younger. The casual fan can take it or leave it but the potential new fan or the layman will not come back. Why? They just got shafted out of their hard earned money to sit in the rain. DCI is biting the hand that feeds them. They say it's about the kids and about the fans. Really? Is the activity sustainable? Not when people stop showing up to performances. Talk about ROI.
  12. My prediction is same as last year. Judges have no backbone to do the right thing. Slotting begins this Saturday. In the words of Colonel Jessup, "you can't handle the truth".
  13. Blue Stars..."Legend of a One Eyed Sailor". Might work, might not. Introduce a new generation of drum corps kids to Chuck Mangione?
  14. 1. Wausau Story 2. Greece Cadets 3. Bengal Lancers 4. Saginaires 5. Cardinals of Precious Blood 6. (Tie) Marion Cadets and Black Watch 7. Empire State Express 8. Emerald Knights 9. General Putnams Men 10.Midshipman 11.Blue Stars
  15. I predict slotting of corps will end and judges will get a backbone.
  16. I beleive Blue Stars have a very difficult guard book. The hand work is difficult. They have sone very talented individuals. If they can clean what they have it could get very intersting late season where they shake out with guard scoring. Michael Shapiro has always written challenging guard work which sometimes keeps the guard scores down for them early season. Will have to wait and see.
  17. Remember Bridgemen 1977 finals night? They were booed before they took the field and the place went nuts after the last note was played. Drum Corps fans are not haters just fickle.
  18. We bring our 7 year old to showsto watch her sister perform. I can tell you that if this happens in general public let alone on a sound track at a show you can bet I will educate that individual to watch there language.
  19. Looking forward to this show. Sounds like speed, agility and more of both the whole performance. Best of luck to you.
  20. Great job Blue Stars. The End Crowns the Work. Your work is not yet done. Ten days to go. Push yourselves.
  21. SCV was the only corps last year that had me at Hello.
