  1. I'm very excited, love ROS and especially Don Sebesky's take on it. Looking forward to hearing the Downey and Johnson arrangements for this piece...it's 'Rite' in thier wheelhouse.
  2. I agree, this years music is brilliant! I appreciate that they try to bring something different every year.
  3. I have been going for several years now, some theater managers will turn it up (only slightly) and some won't turn it up at all. After going in June I decided not to go again, it was that unsatisfying. Not sure why DCI/Fathom can't recommend the correct volume to the theaters, turn it up on thier end, or whatever it takes to solve this problem. It is mystifying to me why we have this issue 5 years after the inception of this product. They should call it 'Big, Not Nearly Loud Enough, and Live'
  4. I agree, liked thier approach to design a lot in 2009 and even more in 2010. Very refreshing and different...they were very patient by following the music wherever it went and did it without trying to change sets every 16 counts. Loved it!
  5. Yeah, it's been awile since anyone has done Chase...how about some Tower of Power while we are at it?
  6. I for one am very excited about this show, I really like experiencing new music on the field and have faith that Vanguard will do it well.
  7. "Ballet for Lady Gaga" - too funny! but seriously, let's hope not...
  8. Glad to hear Pete Weber is still doing the visual design. I found his tantric approach to design refreshing (those loooong develpment times). Growing tired of patterns that constantly change every 8 or 16 counts. Anyway, it is good Myron is back at SCV where he belongs...should do them well.
  9. There was one piece of interesting news on the website -- the return of Myron Rosander as Program Facilitator/Perfomance consultant for 2011. Article here: http://www.scvanguard.org/about/news/news.cfm?news_id=7c923c03-54d4-4531-8621-94ebc32b8814
  10. I remember that Tshirt back in the day,it is classic. Santa would get extra cookies if he brought that! Just checked thier website, still no announcement.
  11. still waiting for my Christmas present from Vanguard....
  12. Here is what they said: 2011 Vanguard Summer Music... Written by Santa Clara Vanguard website Sunday, 12 December 2010 ...will be presented to all prospective members at the corps' Clinic & Audition weekend, December 17-19 at Independence High School in San Jose, CA. The corps plans to make a public announcement of the 2011 program - via Facebook, Twitter and the website - within 24 hours of the conclusion of the weekend. Anyone hear anything yet?
  13. I'll play... Academy – Shostakovich Blue Devils – “Tower of Blue Power” (the music of Tower of Power) … or remake Tommy with electronics Blue Knights – Bartok, Barber Blue Stars – some Cirque de Soleil music (since they seem to like props so much), would be a nice change for them Bluecoats – music of Bill Chase (Invitation to a River, Open up Wide, Run back to Mama, Stay) Boston – Divergents, Procession of Bacchus Cavies – “Casanova” (music by Sinatra, Bond soundtrack, Austin Powers soundtrack, etc.)…make it sophisticated Colts – Oklahoma or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Crossman – let’s try Jazz Rhapsody again Crown – Godspell intertwined with Jesus Christ Superstar Glassman – Hungarian Dances or Boris Godunov HNC – Adventures in Time, Left Bank Express, Primal Scream, Pieces of Dreams Madison – Billie Holiday Show: God Bless the Child, Lady Sings the Blues Phantom – Wagner SCV – Someone mentioned earlier in the thread “Young Person’s Guide…” - I like that idea! Spirit – New Orleans Jazz Troopers – Light Calvary Overture, Theme from Midnight Cowboy (great ballad), Ghost Riders in the Sky
  14. Congrats to the BD organization for an awesome season!
  15. When discussing "West Coast Inflation" you might take into account the makeup of the judging panels. At the Clovis, CA show 2 of the 5 judges were from the midwest. At the Stanford show 3 out of 7 judges were from the midwest. I'm sure if we look at the panel at the Ogden show we will find a mix of west coast and midwest judges as well. Therefore, do the midwest judges begin inflating scores when they cross the Rockies?
