  1. Question is, can you hook up your night visions to a recorder...
  2. The naysayers here are just the gauntlet you have to run so that your idea stands up--if it folds under pressure here and now, it will surely fail later. So do it with the same strength and alacrity you threw into drum corps and take some notes from Ken Burns---make the best film you can make. (edit for spelling)
  3. Ok Kilties would be Mad Plaid, Racine Scouts would be Chrome Domes, Santa Clara was The Great SCV (Midwest, 70's), Americanos or 'canos would occasionally have to be reminded to dust off their sombreros. (doesn't really count but amusing) Green Machine would sometimes get translated to Mean Spleen, We tried to turn Madison into Sadison, but they were winning at the time and it didn't take. After '75 the Muchachos were referred to as the Cabs, but I think that was just kinda' mean. I remember others---not really fit for print!
  4. Their headgear just might usurp Belleville Black Knights as coolest ever.
  5. What if Drum Corps had something like a compulsory show--a display of chops to sate that execution jones? In other words some kind of one or two minute short show to "show off" what you can do. As in skating or gymnastics there's the compulsory exercises. A level field with a set of rudimentary requirements performed identically by each corps, whatever those requirements may be. Maybe have them only at the contests that have prelims. Or incorporate the starting line warm-up with the compulsory--that would cover two actions at once. It would be a goal for execution, no one likes to tick. It would settle a lot of "who's the cleanest" arguments. Or at least something similar? Just wondering.
  6. I always felt that a system that incorporated both a give and a take away would be a fair assessment--give points where due and take away as needed. Balance.
  7. Is that photo reversed? Wasn't the piston played with the right hand thumb and the rotor with the left?
  8. Atari computers too. That box was years ahead of Apple and PC's--too bad they couldn't keep it up. I've heard rumors about the demise of the computer side of the company but don't really want to slag anyone. The 1040 was my first computer back in 1987 and wiped out the competition with 4 meg memory (vs. 256k-520k for Mac and PC) and I could record music midi or digitally with ease (Sound Tools came out first for the Atari and changed names to what is now known now as Pro Tools) and print out scores. Came with midi ports built in. I think Fat Boy Slim still uses his. Coolness factor--10.00 The games were fun as well! (edited for an "of")
  9. Tommy you're killing me!! Big Basin is a national park in the Santa Cruz mountains--coastal Sequoias called Sempervirens, a little different from the Giganticus strain in the Sierra Nevada range. Very cool place, warm, no bugs, great acoustics. James Lick was an actual person and astronomer and built an observatory on top of Mt. Hamilton about 4300 feet up. Took about 12 years just to build the road to get up there. He is buried at the base of the telescope, creepy. So, sorry, no cool codes!
  10. Knew I'd find one--I started in 1970 too with Nisei B then DP Vanguard, Blue Stars and ending with Kilties '75. Age 12-17. What a ride!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything. Had four more years to march but for me, real life set in, college, work etc. I wonder what those last four would have been like.
  11. Happy New Years everyone--I write ring tones for Motorola here in Chicago--I have a version of "Syne" for your phone (mp3) on the hangover sax and added clicks and pops to get that old vinyl feel---if you would like a copy I can email it to you, just email me your address to tstranich@yahoo.com I have some others too, mostly standards for different times of the year, just let me know what holiday........
  12. While you're in Sunnyvale, drive down to Big Basin for some Sequoia action or head northeast into the San Jose mountains up to the Lick Observatory--just a stunning view of the Bay Area. I really miss it. A lot.
  13. True, or maybe we need waffles. "We must have waffles! We must have waffles forth with!" They'll dampen sound and we can bring butter/syrup for after show munch delight...
  14. I find it interesting that the only corps listed twice is Phantom.
  15. I remember now, this guy made All-Hungarian back in '04 and carried a 6' pike...A lopott megjelenítése.....
