Troopers 2011-That show just hit me like no other. Brought tears to my eyes at the end. Phantom 2008-Need I say more? Phantom 2003-See above PC 2012-That opening, ballad, and ending hit me pretty hard. I'm proud to say that being an alum of the corps is not the contributing factor to this though. Great show this season. Cadets 2000-That show makes me happy.

I'll be there tonight as well in stands posting here when I can. Depending on what time my ride gets me there will determine how much of the show I cover. Hoping to get there in time for PC.

PC continuing their lead over Colts and Troop Bloo passing up SCV, Cadets and Phantom for their 2nd medal Boston and Madison passing up Cavaliers Crown and BD duking it out Academy, Glassmen, Bones, Blue Stars, BK and Spirit all fighting it out with how tight that pack is. Mandarins and Surf fighting out who will top who. So much competitive drama this year!!!

As far as the repetitive theme goes, if you listen to Bloo 2010, the first half time push/impact point after the fade out, the motif played there is a variation of a part of the melody in Asphalt Cocktail. It reappears in each movement and is the original source melody material for the ballad in that show.

I don't mind vocals in shows, especially tasty ones (PC, BLOO AND CROWN 07) but I don't feel these add to the show any. Especially with that gorgeous flugelhorn solo happening and the lush sound the horn line is producing right there. Don't get me wrong, I like this show a lot and I haven't liked a BD show in a while. I just think it isn't needed.

Ok so chiming in late here but a few points I'd like to make. I think if west coast can handle it every year, the east coast/midwest can handle every few years. I mean c'mon, PC, Mandarins, Academy and Cascades can muscle it. Yes Cascades full tour but start late due to their schooling schedules and when the kids are released. Once they start, they are on for the rest of the season. Some corps have the right idea when getting their buses. For example, BD uses the same bus company as Bluecoats so when tour is over, the buses don't have to go far. I know this because I accidentally almost went on a Blue Devils bus during my time at coats. Also, my 3 years at Pacific Crest, we used a bus company out of Virginia I think once we left California so that cut some costs. Obviously some corps have the right idea when it comes to getting buses so why can't all of them get on that if/when they come out west? It's simple logic!!! When Bloo came out west in 2009, they tried to set a goal to come out every 3-4 years so they might be out here soon again. With the new stadium in the San Fran area being built, Citrus College's stadium, The SD Chargers stadium, Stanford, Santa Barbara City College, and many others in the area I think having finals out here would be a huge possibility again! I mean ya that crap happened to Spirit out here in 07 but where have you been that doesn't have a bad area? I mean, look what happened to BK recently. Heck, I remember PC's housing site in 08 was a bit sketchy and they have stayed there several times! So to say the areas are bad is pathetic because every state has a bad area. Just my thoughts on some things =)

I would say yes but we (Bluecoats) never got docked on our lack of uniformity during uniform change in 2009 so I would say no as long as it doesn't distract from the main visual focus of the show.

I find both Bloo and Crown shared a similar situation. Both dropped out of finals a decade or more ago and now both of them have recently become consistent top tier competitors. Now my question is what the heck happened to Glassmen and BAC that caused them to drop significantly for a few years? I mean "glass place" seemed to be 5th for a while instead of 11th like it was 05-08.

Refer to my "Bb chord at every impact" posts for the 2011 season. It's still happening even this season. Is it easy to tune as oppose to the other key signatures? Yes! But if you're tuning to the same key every freaking time, I think you should get docked in demand and possibly design for not taking the audience on a more (no phantom pun intended) harmonic journey. P.S I like the Blue Devils this year. Just take out the vocals and it's golden

Something I've noticed this season from watching all the corps is that I'm more entertained by the 9-20th corps than any of the top 8. I'm more into these shows and the competitiveness of that groupin and how crazy it is this season. I even think the quality of performance from this group is upped a lot since the past few seasons. Anyone else feel the same way? Thoughts? Opinions?

How do we know they're not all Michael boo fans? =p but placements for the blue devils over another corps was not the first booing I had been exposed to but strangely enough, it still invlolves crown placing below a blue corps. In 06 BK beat crown finals night in Madison and the crowd booed followed by an applause for crown. I just think its a bunch of people who get their panties wet everytime crown performs. Is their brass great? You bet! But they are not the best overall performing corps as of late. I honestly use to be the same way about phantom and Bloo
